...How is keeping the plugins up to date anything like leeching? At least I put in the effort to find the list of plugins I have myself.
Trust me when I say that across the entire server community leeching is heavily frowned upon. Frankly, I don't care to share lists of that kind of stuff with other servers, I'm just saying that if another server found you to be leeching they may not feel quite the same - MCbans can be a very useful tool, or a very powerful enemy - and leeching IS something they will globally ban for (meaning you couldn't use their plugins either).
And if you're an admin with an active server, you don't have the time to spend a day on another server. Just sayin'.
Considering that the first guy who created the plugin did it to help improve other servers, I could say that you are selfish. But then again, it seems that you've adopted it to become another one of you private plugins.
How do you know I haven't put any effort to find plugins? I went through most of BukkitDev until I kept finding inactive ones and not updated ones. I have many of those plugins bookmarked to implement in my server later. Of the plugins that were on your plugin list I had already found half of those. I probably didn't know the other half because you are more of a professional in the plugin obtaining field and you have done this longer.

Global Ban Reasons
Global bans are to be used with the user commits a severe rule violation, as this significantly impacts their gameplay. Valid reasons for Global Bans are, but are not limited to:
Griefing, (Destroying items/blocks NOT owned by the user -- Stealing is included here.)
Causing server downtime by using methods such as DDOS or Spambot - Please be very specific when you use this reason
Hacking (Exploits) - be specific
X-Ray Modifications (Texture packs or otherwise)
Racism/Homophobia/Sexism etc.
Nazi Symbols
Honeypots (Prior allowance from MCBans + Server must comply with our HoneyPot Guidelines)
I see nothing here in this list of rules that I could be banned for. Nice try for trying to scare me. It says stealing is included but how is finding out a plugin, finding it, and downloading it stealing and leeching? I'm not copying your server. Just to let you know, the way you are using your plugins is not how I'm going to be using my plugins for my server.
And what if I said that my server doesn't need 24/7 support? I don't need to visit the forums every day and check out applications. I'm not worried about who comes on my server. I'm not worried about griefing (cause they can't). And when it does need support, I have friends who can help me with that. Plus, I said I went through BukkitDev. BukkitDev has a nice feature called subscriptions. I get emails for updates. I don't need to check the forums every day for updates.
So all I need to do is add more to it when I feel like adding more. Update when it needs updating. Check the forums every now and then to look at suggestions. Play my server. Play other servers. Go on with life.
EDIT: Leeching is taking from others without the intent of giving back, right? I'm not leeching if I plan on giving out a plugin list of my server. You, on the other hand are leeching. I am sure of this. You took public work of other people and update it for your own server. You took his work, made it your own and don't post it for others to use as well? That, my friend, is leeching.

Actually, if you look back at one of my old posts, I said something like "If a plugin doesn't update, I'll update it myself temporarily. If the dev goes inactive, I'll release it for public use, but not until then" - quite the opposite of leeching. Ususally, someone beats me to the chase with the update, but I was running CraftGuard for a few months until I dropped support and suggested users move to a new, better run plugin from a dev who had more free time. Another example of how I don't leech - Look me up on spout's forums, I'm a donator, and the servers also a seperate donator. $50 of my hard earned money, to show my appreciation to what they do.
If you think you can run a server just dropping in for a couple of hours a week or whatever, you have NO idea what you're getting into and I can guarentee your server will flop. You need to put in the man hours to help out the noobs and keep things running smoothly - if you don't check it, what if it crashes and its offline for 3 days straight? BOOM, half your player base have moved on. A server in theory is easy to run yeah, "turn it on, load it up, let players play" - trust me, in practice its nothing like that at all. You get all sorts of noobs come on, asking silly questions over and over again that **** off your mods - if you're never around the mods will feel they're wasting their time and leave too. You have to be active on your own server, or noone else will be.
Same goes with your forums, you get your daily "ragers" (People who come and ***** about being banned for XYZ reason, which 99% of the time is mentioned in the rules somewhere... HEY THIS SOUNDS FAMILIAR?!) - they're quite fun actually, you can either just ban them from your forum or keep them around for laughing stock, they'll keep saying "Oh I'm leaving" then you say something that brings them right back (Again, sounds oddly familiar...*) - but at any rate, you have to keep on top of it or your server gets a bad rep and you have to start from scratch to clean that.
So yeah in short, a server isn't just a walk in the park where you can just make it then kick back - if thats what you're after, use one of those crappy hosting sites which charge stupid amounts for pretty low-quality servers - the only benefit is they keep it running.
Finally, the MC bans thing - I didn't say I was trying to scare you, quite the opposite. I don't even use MCbans anymore, we don't have the plugin installed because I judge for myself who should be able to use my server - I do use their site for searching bans though. Anyway, if you check on their forums it does say they make exceptions if you open a support ticket with an odd ban type - I had a guy like you a while back (chubbnut, around page 50 I think but most posts were removed). Back when we used MCBans, I opened a ticket and they said that was a perfectly just reason for a global ban. Anyway yeah I wasn't trying to scare you coz like I said, I don't care - Like YOU said, you're using the plugins for different purposes. I'm just saying across the admin community, leechers are generally frowned upon as the people who can't be bothered to put the work in themselves. And as you expect to run a server while barely being online - think that pretty much sums you up.

^Back to this point, Just made a $10 bet with one of my players that you'll reply - please do, it makes the next server bill $10 cheaper
Ah, I see that you are in reality not a leecher. I am not as well. Not obtaining info only for myself, but for others. Leech talk is finished.
As for server maintenance. If my server crashes for a few days, I have two similar plugins that email the players or send them messages. That will surely get them back on if my server is worth it. I just have to find a way to get their email on the email list. (Reward system maybe?).
Noobs asking for questions wouldn't be a problem if you had an in game tutorial with visual representation and guides to the several features of the server. Make it neat and nice and organized. Have a troubleshoot page. That will bring down some noobish questions. If there is a noob who is constantly asking, just have him refer to the forums. And if someone had a complaint about a certain user, they could just use something to send an email to me. That way I can get on top of it and fix it.
Expecting to run a server while barely online? Yes. Expecting to run a server while barely present? No. For me, this is more of a side project. I'm not devoting my entire life to keeping this server operating. If it comes to it, I might just hand the baton to a close friend or a committed user.
"Claiming victory (mah plugins) and standing ground" is my way of describing your "bitching". The topic sure went from "Got your plugins, suckah!" to "Ya ain't gonna run ur server right. It's gonna suck." to "Imma bet mah users 10 bucks!" Man, I'm having so much fun. I'm so glad I'm not the only one. Carrying on this conversation might go on for a while longer so thankfully we are both enjoying this.
And, oh noes, I'm not willing to do any of the work myself. I was going through BukkitDev right now while waiting for your response. Found some plugins and bookmarked them for later implementation. And aren't I doing some work if I'm going to servers and having a quick look around?
And as for what I said for me leaving the topic. Well, I came back because, well, I reflected on what I learned so far that I wouldn't have learned with some searches in Google. Which reminds me. That plugin that blocks plugins? If it wasn't working, what I would have done is search for the plugin in google. If a plugin I was using wasn't working, I'd want to find out everything I could about it not working or find an alternative (Which I'm guessing you did after my discovery. Saw your post).
Anyways to why I'm still here other than having fun, the knowledge I have accumulated: The Virtual Private Server thing really got me interested. Didn't know you could host a server without a computer. I thought you had to have someone else host it. And File Transfer Protocol is really another cool feature. The list goes on: adding custom blocks and spells, MCbans, what might happen to my server and its users, you can ban people from the forums. Crap, I need to write all this down somewhere before I forget.
Seems like I'm still benefiting off of talking to you. Enjoy your 10$ now. What I'm getting from you is more valuable than that.

Your naive approach to running a server still never ceases to amaze me. You really expect all your players who join to give you their email address? Yeah, the more mature people probably will... what you don't seem to get about minecraft is that 80% of the player base is 12-13 year old kids who have no interest in a servers "story" or "objective" and just come on, don't read anything then when they see you "can i haz crative pl0x" If you don't have the time to spend at least 3 or so hours a day on your server you'll at least need an equal-level admin hired to help you - heck I have two and I get around 8 hours a day for management. But yeah, noobs don't read - no "foolproof" plan is ever actually foolproof.
For example, my server has a whitelist. To join it, people have to post an application in one of 3 subforums, depending on the town they want to go to. This is told to them in-game, on a screen when registering for the forum and on a sticky in the central application section of the forum - yet I still get daily people who just post in the wrong place saying "Can I play" or just sign up for the forum without even applying saying "y am i stil not whitlist" - As much as you want them to, people don't read.
Anyway, I'd hardly say I was bitching, after all - you started all this I'm just saying that with your approach the server will go nowhere. And as for Kin's bet - he bet me, and I just got the $10 through paypal. Woke me up actually.
I'm glad to see you're going to Bukkit Dev, that is there for people to search for plugins and IMO its better than going on servers, you see what they DO instead of just a name. Idk about you, but if I saw a plugin called Spout I'd have NO idea what it did unless I looked at their page. Going onto a free access server and typing /plugins isn't work - you probably have it shortcutted anyway.
OH yeah great idea! Go make this server on a VPS, It'll run AMAZING I promise $5 a month should cover it fine. Make sure you get a nice control panel and hosting included with it, need those to run it at its max. Anyway, I never told you how to add custom blocks or spells, just mentioned its possible. But not blocks on a VPS. That's not possible. Anyway, you're clearly learning a lot from me yet everything I mention is just a joke as to how little you know... I'm merely scratching the surface of being an admin. Here's another nice tip for you: In a YAML file, know it uses 4 spaces? If you use "tab" instead it uses 3 less characters and so the whole file will load better. - Anyway as I said before, stop being a douche and I'd help you a lot more. I like helping small servers get going, its a fun pass time - but I only do it for people who are nice.

"my" town burned down with it's people. I could see some caves and a little house in the distanse. I went over to the little house were i met a man who helped me on my way to the nearest town (spawn or chosen town). Only things he wanted in return was all my stuff (an empty waterbottle and the wooden sword.
Bio seems a little short. Why was the town attacked? How did you escape? What made you decide to move to whichever town you want (You never chose a town either)
Also "Human" isn't a race - check the races section for a list of valid options.

So you say that generally 12-13 year olds have no interest in "story" or "objective." Well you pinned the tail on the donkey. That's my server exactly. They go through an extensive questline with side quests. So going through this questline would be an equivalent of a whitelist. Then I will tell them if they want more, then they put their email on the list. If they don't, they don't. It tells me if they are committed or not. If 80% doesn't want to come, well, that's their problem.
Didn't say you were bitching. I said your "bitching." Meaning to describe what you describe as what I am doing. Anyway, this approach is a side approach.
I am in awe of you sir. You devote your life to a minecraft server, and you help other servers get going as a pastime. No wonder your users love you. Speaking of your users, they sure do love you. That map plugin showed me that one of your users loves to cheat. It went along the lines of "you know that's against the rules" and "I am aware." Then they called out "Flenix?" Don't know what happened next though. It happened like two or three days ago when I mentioned the map. Seems like no "foolproof plan is foolproof." Your right.
Oh, and I was only being "nice" to one who banned me. You banned me for what I saw as a jerk reaction. "Dis guy noob, ban time!" I did have no idea what Spout was. I didn't know you could add texturepacks to a server. I didn't see website links on the server info. I was a noob. I still don't know everything there is to know. I'm siphoning stuff out of you because banning me seemed, well, inappropriate.

Come now hallo, I'm enjoying the fact that he's assuming he can do the job of me+flen+shadow with 90% less the time
So, I say we let him stay a little longer, just for the fun of it?

Point 1: Yes its true and your going to have to deal with whiny kids who want to cause harm to your server / people on your server as well as the general kid with the IQ < 20 who cant type a intellectual sentence without being like "Admin admin admin...hi"
Point 2: Them giving you a Junk email? Yeah thats committed + Its your responsibility to hold that data securely and if thats lost you can face a court case on your ass.
Point 3: Because they cheat we still give them plenty of chances to redeem themselves, but we have a no tolerance system when it comes to greylisters who (yet again loops back to Point 1) ask to be admin/ op / mod or creative. Along with a few other things.
Point 4: Its your responsibility to learn the features of a program whether it would be through searching through google/ youtube / whatever just as its your responsibility to read about a server before joining and get familiar with its rules.
Point 5: You were banned for doing something you should not have access to in the first place and knowing such commands proves you were looking through servers to get plugins and you've now somehow developed it into a excuse as to why keep bragging on about this? Well that seems inappropriate.. matches your profile age of 3 Years old.. Now onto the basis of what you have done,
Most plugins may be copyrighted this means its our duty to hold this software and not hand it over to a 3rd party. You're basically the 3rd party in a sense that you've looked through a list which You should not have used in the first place taken the names of said software and obtained them from the first party.
Generally you've become a nuisance to me Flen and also become a laughing stock to the rest of the server for continuing to argue against this reasoning. Do yourself and us a favor and just leave..
1. Ok, so I might have some of those people on my server. That's why I put them through a complex tutorial quest that they have to go through and they won't be able to chat. (Greylisting I presume.) This will test their IQ and prevent the 90% that do come to the server to cause harm. The other 10% will come through and will be banned.
2. As I said before, if they are committed, they will put their email on the list just like people will put their email on other sites' list. And how hard is it to secure emails if when they submit their emails, they are put into a server file inaccessible by all but me?
3. Just sayin'
4. Well, I clearly have that figured out now, don't I?
5. Knowing such commmands proves that I have server experience and a subconscious reaction to type in these various commands. The first thing I do when I get on large servers is type in /help. I want to know the type of server it is. I want to know where to go next. I was on a server that was empty of resources. They might have some warp to another world that has plenty. /help solves the problem.

Okay you clearly have every little detail figured down to the last rivet...Hacking, its a thing, And you CLEARLY had it all figured it when you joined this server looking for plugins and probably just about any other server.
Protip: You dont have to go through their god damn plugin list to see what type of server it is all you have to do is go to their website/ forum post to see what it is, a couple lines of reading, clearly a skill you have as proven by this argument.
Knowing one command OHH WOW YOUR THE GREAT ADMIN OF ALL TIME! No just no... Time and Commitment On your part as well, (not just the players)is what is required not 1 hour a damn day And copyrights is clearly an example of an issue you may face if you hand out software to other servers.
Hacking? Not even a little. Didn't use any tools that weren't already given to me. /plugins is not hacking.
And I was talking about the /help command not the /plugins command.
Time and Committment? I plan on doing that for a month or so and then keep it running from there. Not overly committed.

Can never judge a community based on the talkings of one.
Though one may speak for a community, which in this case is Flenix, not hallo.
So by the fact that you're trying to pull that into this, you are loosing your case, and your ground, so you are retreating to easy picks, which is never a good sign for your side.
I would suggest taking a few moments, and collecting your thoughts so this can go back to an actual argument/debate instead of "oh well youre cursing more so bleh!"
Anyway I've completly lost track of the argument, what are we discussing again? Last I saw was something about Copyright. Which doesn't make sense to me anyway, as its Bukkit who added the /plugins command...
Anyway, I'm rambling. Wheres the argument at right now? Had to go for dinner but back for the night again now. Gonna configure the mining world a bit, any users who wanna test pm me
What? Wow.. I've lost my mind? You'll be holding numerous amounts of emails if you will be keeping your server as greylist. If your system is breached then oh dear there goes 100s of emails which can be used for many websites gone *Poof*
OH YEAH I forgot about this bit. Thats a legal issue off the bat actually that I take as my responsibility, from one admin to antoher, to tell you of. Just keeping a general "list" of emails for that kind of use is against the law even if you plan to do nothing with it - it breaks the Data Protection Act. Its REEAAAAALLY easy to encrypt it, but I'll let you use your research skills your bragging about to find that out

You guys just don't see that I'm really not losing my case. Flenix is saying that I'm hacking, leeching, doesn't know a thing about what I'm talking about. Btw, I know more than the /plugins command. Essentials and Permissions Ex and other plugins has taught me so many more commands.
Your server is a hard thing to run. Checking for applications, constant bannings, have to stay online for fear of griefers. Yeah, pretty hard thing. I just don't see all that happening on my server the way I have it set up. The only thing I might have to fear is someone getting in front of someone's path. But even that I don't have to prevent if someone can walk right past them.

Denied, need a longer, more indepth bio about your character.
Taken from MCban's website:(MCban's! Didn't know it existed)
*
^Back to this point, Just made a $10 bet with one of my players that you'll reply - please do, it makes the next server bill $10 cheaper
Paving the way to a better world!
