Bought a server today. Attempted to install Tekkit 3.1.1 through the one-click mod install option, and could not connect to my server. After putting in a ticket, was told some of the mods I had installed were giving errors and causing the server to stall out. The staff member removed the offending mods, and I was able to get in. To a half-tekkit server, without any of the mods my group really uses.
So I've gone to re-install the server, to start from scratch, and have been told it will take a couple of hours because of how large of a game Minecraft is.
On your website, you list the code blowout to give you 50% off. This will sound really stupid but what would be a better deal, the blowout code or the minecraftforum code.
The minecraftforum coupon would be the better deal
So technically jonney they don't have to give you a refund. I would suggest getting a host with solid terms of them having to give you a refund. Those hosts usually outline a 24-72 hours refund policy that you can get a refund for any reason(s) your not happy with them. Combine that with good reviews then you can be sure to find a host that is less risky to go with.

We do refund if there is any issue on our end that we are unable to resolve. This includes performance, pings etc. We also offer a FREE 24hr trial period on any of our minecraft servers, so if you wish, open a ticket and we can set you up with a 24hr test server.
