Honestly, I see no problem with it. Anyone who joins is obviously a person who wants a community of people like themselves (this could apply to gender, race, religion, etc.). If you aren't interested in such a community... then don't join the server. Servers are privately hosted, and it should be up to the server owner(s) who they want to allowed into their community.
As to advertising here, yeah, discrimination in a hateful way in not allowed here, as it's just a form of flaming, but simply not allowing certain people to join their server isn't breaking any rules.
We both know that what you're saying here is complete BS
Actually, I don't think that what I said was BS. Don't make assumptions, please. I don't think you realize what point I'm trying to make. The line is drawn. I just don't think its drawn here. The server has a pretty good reason for keeping it girls only, while there isn't too much of a good reason for keeping a server white-only. And I still don't think it has violated the rules.

Don't you think gender segregation is a bit overzealous?
In public places or workplaces I'd say that gender segregation, or any segregation for that matter, should not be allowed, but what is so bad about only allowing one gender to join a server? As somebody has already pointed out, gender specific clubs already exist in the real world, and they cause no harm. It is only bad when they start hatefully discriminating against people unlike themselves, such as with insults or violence.
To reiterate, what is the harm in people only wanting to talk with certain people? It would be like me being forced to date a man, simply to not discriminate against homosexuality.
By all means this is not segregation, or at least not at the level you are claiming it to be.
This "segregation" happens in both private and public places and have different meanings.

There is no need for examples as the word "voluntary" explains it pretty much.
The server thread in question is a prime example of a voluntary sex segregation. You are not required to join. No one is making anyone join the server, it is open for those that would like to.
You can take another example based on age. Posting a server like this is exactly the same as someone posting a server requesting only persons of such and such age to join.
At that point is it considered age discrimination? Absolutely not.
A user is well within their rights to make a all girl server if they wish too.
I am so glad I found this post. I posted a reply on that thread to the OP agreeing with his idea. Now that I found this, I can finally express my opinion peacefully without my post getting deleted.
Firstly, they need to deal with it. Rarely will it be the case where you are working with only girls, they need to learn that this just isn't the way things are. This has got to be one of the most immature acts I have ever seen in a while. Secondly, if you actually have the maturity to not stereotype guys like this, then have you ever heard of the banning feature. Why do you think it is there? Hmm... I wonder why.
This one goes to the people saying "Oh, it's her server, she can do what she wants!". Whiles you may be correct, this just isn't the right place for that. Of course, she can do what she wants with her property, but does that mean she should be able to post it anywhere if it involves discrimination? No.
I can use a core forum rule as a postulate for this:
"As a family friendly and all inclusive community we do not allow any form of discrimination, this includes -- but is not limited to -- age, race, gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion, sexuality and disability."
- The Minecraft Forums rules, Illegal activity, Hate speech.
And guess what that post is doing? That post is segregating, which mentioned earlier by the OP is clearly defined as discrimination. The MC Forums just isn't a place to be posting threads that induce segregation.
I also want to mention something else that kind of irritated me about what one of the moderators did. The OP knows about this. My post that I stated my opinion on, on that thread was deleted. The moderators words were "Just deleted several posts that included hate speech". Wow, just wow. I was expressing my opinion in a valid way and so were other people. Can you even express your opinion anymore on here? Apparently not on threads like those!
I will say like I did on the post I made on the girls only server thread before my post was deleted, I do not mean to offend anyone, just simply expressing my opinion.
"As a family friendly and all inclusive community we do not allow any form of discrimination, this includes -- but is not limited to -- age, race, gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion, sexuality and disability."
Hate Speech

Notice that it says "Hate Speech" above the text. This means that no one, absolutely no one can belittle another user based what was listed above.
Creating a server is in no way shape or form "hate speech".

The thread is a server recruitment thread, not a add your opinion thread. If you weren't joining the server or asking a question about the server then it was off topic. Stating an opinion on if you feel a server type if wrong is not "on topic" for the thread.

It's not the fact that she created the server. I think you misunderstood, it's who she restricted it to. This is basically banning a large chunk of the world's population from her server for no apparent reason. Is that necessary? Why should she be able to post a server thread on these forums that is promoting segregation? What if some guy brand new to these forums came on, and the first thing he saw was that post, and got the bad idea that these forums were promoting segregation. This forum is supposed to be meant for everyone, where no user receives more power than another.

I can understand that, but everything else I don't. I believe it is a post that fully violates the forums rules.

I don't think you're understanding the different between what is discrimination and what is not.
She has every right to only request girls to join the server.
Let's take another look...
People make many types of servers. There are minigame servers, creative servers, mod pack servers, ect..
When someone makes a server for hunger games, if someone is looking for a server to play survival, that means all players who are wanting to play only survival are now excluded against playing on that hunger games server.
Let's look at it from another stand point.
Since I Moderate the Xbox/PE/PI forums, I'm going to use an example.
Parents come onto the Xbox forums to request players of young age to play with their child of a young age and do not want anyone who is 13 or older to play with their child.
By your definition, that's discrimination. Everyone who is 13+ is now "banned" and not allowed to play on an xbox server with that parent's child.
Let's go back to the topic.
If a new male user came onto the forums and went to the servers section in look for a server and saw this thread, he would most likely skip right over it.
Why?
The title tells the user what they need to know:
[1.5.2] GIRLS ONLY SERVER
The user would more or less likely just move on down the list to the next server on the list, or continue reading titles until one catches his interest.
All server recruitment threads are voluntary. By no means is anyone forcing you to join that server, belittling others who don't join that server, or disallow you to join / make your own server.
This forum is supposed to be meant for everyone, where no user receives more power than another.
Yes, all girls on the forum have become moderators and guys have officially been banned from the forum..
And to answer something the OP said
I agree that perhaps they wanted a girl-friendly environment which I'm all for, but just don't make it ABSOLUTELY Girls Only, maybe something along the lines of Girl-Friendly Server.
How can the server be girl-friendly when the majority of players are guys.
Also would you not say that discrimination against girls occur on even large server. And no I'm not talking about the server itself being discriminating, but the players.

You are missing the point... And are you sure the user would move just right down past it? Not everyone, I sure didn't. The OP sure didn't. A user could easily get a bad idea from the forum because of a title like that. I saw a lot of other people commenting about how they did not like the idea of the thread.
And by the way, your analogys are pointless as they are extremely self contradicting. As the first 2 don't even work in this situation. Nice try though.
If you looked at the posts in that thread, you would immediately detect that almost all of them have 1 post. If those are not alts, then that is a large amount of people getting a first impression off of that post.

Lastly, how would the girl really detect that the person was actually a girl?
I don't really see how that is even related to the topic.

Take notice of the word "most likely". Meaning there's a chance he would not. Again, commenting your opinion if you like a topic or not in the topic was not the point of the thread. Those posts are / were off topic and removed.
And by the way, your analogys are pointless as they are extremely self contradicting. As the first 2 don't even work in this situation. Nice try though.
How so? Discrimination comes in all forms, you went and posted from the rules (not in it's entirety) what was included in discrimination. I picked another example of the same exact type of thread on these forums but instead of saying a user's sex restriction, I said age. You can't say one thing isn't discrimination and another is not.
My post that listed the different types of sex segregation isn't pointless at all..
If you looked at the posts in that thread, you would immediately detect that almost all of them have 1 post. If those are not alts, then that is a large amount of people getting a first impression off of that post.
You seem to only be looking at things one way and close eyes to others.
A lot of people don't make accounts that view these forums. To post in a thread you need an account. Who's to say that a "new" user wasn't here before? As for a first impression, you are assuming that all those accounts are also assuming that every thread is rather ONLY GIRLS or ONLY BOYS, or ONLY (fill in the blank) type servers.
Like I said before, there is no way of knowing how "new" a user is. When I made an account. If we are only basing off of join date and post count, that's not exactly an accurate account of judging how "new" someone is.
I officially joined in November of 2011, but I browsed the forums since at least June / July of that year for mods and maps. I also didn't start making a lot of posts until more information about Minecraft Xbox360's release and information was being released. Several months later, I didn't have many posts, and by that definition I was "new", even though I've been around for a year at most.
Some users do not need / want to make accounts. A user could have created an account just to post in a single thread. That's not uncommon. Many people just make an account to make a topic, and never log in again.
If the users are in fact alts, and are misrepresenting themselves, then they will find that they wont be around long as Misuse of alts is against the forum rules.
Take notice of the word "most likely". Meaning there's a chance he would not. Again, commenting your opinion if you like a topic or not in the topic was not the point of the thread. Those posts are / were off topic and removed.
No, not most likely. I'm sure any curious guy would just go in there because he saw "girls only", so he knew there would be girls involved, or they(like me), wanted to know if it was something potentially breaking a rule.

Let's go to your server analogy. Paraphrasing what you said: If one server is hunger games, that excludes everyone who wants to play survival. I don't get this one because it's common sense, they wouldn't go to that server if they did not want to play hunger games. They would not be excluded from it though, so I don't get where you were coming from there.
When did I ever say age restrictions were discrimination? Where would this world be without age restrictions? Of course those are in place. But do you commonly see gender restrictions in this world? Of course excluding bathrooms, etc. for security reasons.
You seem to only be looking at things one way and close eyes to others.

Maybe not all of them are new, but that still wouldn't matter. They would still see the the thread. But come on, you have to admit, pretty much all of them have 1 post. Something suspicious has to be going on.
Let's try not to veer off topic. We are only focusing on the main idea, the thread idea itself. This does not have to do with age, race, or anything else. This has to do with gender. Should someone really be allowed to just create a thread that is girls only? Would you ever see something in public that would limit you based on your gender (Besides the obvious things)? If not, why should it be allowed here?
No, not most likely. I'm sure any curious guy would just go in there because he saw "girls only", so he knew there would be girls involved, or they(like me), wanted to know if it was something potentially breaking a rule.
There can be a lot of assumptions made. Again, this is why I said "most likely" and not everyone, or every male. There are always exceptions.
I'm going to change a few things:
If one server is girls only, that excludes everyone who is a boy. I don't get this one because it's common sense, they wouldn't go to that server if they were not a girl.
Changing the few words it's exactly the same.
One thing for your pharaphrase confuses me: They would not be excluded from it though, so I don't get where you were coming from there.
So, if I would join a hunger games server, but I don't want to play hungergames, I wouldn't be kicked? I would be allowed to break blocks and build and fight mobs?
Mainly though, you did say what was obvious:
I don't get this one because it's common sense, they wouldn't go to that server if they did not want to play hunger games.
I don't get this one because it's common sense, they wouldn't go to that server if they were not a girl.
We change game types / subjects and it's no longer common sense?
When did I ever say age restrictions were discrimination? Where would this world be without age restrictions? Of course those are in place. But do you commonly see gender restrictions in this world? Of course excluding bathrooms, etc. for security reasons.
When you quoted the rules, it listed out everything that is considered discrimination under Hate Speech. Age is one of them.
As for commonly seeing it. Yes! I listed many many MANY examples of sex segregation. All completely legal!
If you want to get into the legality of discrimination / segregation you have to look at basic human rights.
Everyone has the right to go to school. Everyone has a choice to what school they can attend.
Everyone has the right to employment. Every employer has the right to decide if they have openings and positions ready to fill.
Choosing who you work for and when is a privilege, not a right.
Where it becomes illegal:
Wages (men's wages compared to women's wages for the exact same job / education / experience)
Employment (hiring / work ethics / promotions / laid off )
This is where it becomes illegal. As a forum, we can not deny access to anyone without good reason. Race / Religion / Gender / Age (according to the law) / Sexual Orientation / ect...
We cannot ban you for these same reasons above. (age being a middle man due to some child protection laws)
We can ban you, however, for breaking rules. Being a member is not a right, and no government can impose this restriction upon the forum.
Being a member is a privilege. This goes along with the server.
No one has the right to join that user's server. No one's rights are being taken away. It's a privilege for others to join the server, and no one has the right to tell her what she can or cannot do on her server. As a user, if you do not like the server, no one is telling you you have to like it. No one is telling you to join. No body, or man in this case, is being belittled, or "hated" upon.
Maybe not all of them are new, but that still wouldn't matter. They would still see the the thread. But come on, you have to admit, pretty much all of them have 1 post. Something suspicious has to be going on.
The moderators and admins of that section will determine if anything "suspicious" is going on.
The topic is "my stance on segregated server" and the thread is about segregation and discrimination topics on the forums. The thread that is brought up is the sample that OP posted, but it was not limited to just this topic.
If one server is girls only, that excludes everyone who is a boy. I don't get this one because it's common sense, they wouldn't go to that server if they were not a girl.

How did I know that's exactly what you were going to say? You can't possibly directly relate a Minecraft game type with gender. That just doesn't work, they are two different things. Gender segregation is a much more serious matter, and should not be tolerated. At the least, that is one of the most immature acts I have ever seen before is gender segregation on a Minecraft server!
For maybe like the 3rd time, that is not the point. Granted, she has every right to do that, but keep in mind, this whole thread is about the stopping of server segregation here on these forums. Threads that segregate just do not belong here. If she wants to have a server like that, then she should not be doing it here. Even if they do not explicitly discriminate, the "girls only" part of that server is implicitly discriminating by segregating, which again, is illegal activity on these forums.
I serioustly dont blame the server owner for this. Just think of how immature users would get if she said 'Girl server!' (and boys were allowed). You pretty much said it yourself in the OP, you checked it out wondering what it was. This is getting out of hand...Could I just explain for a moment.
Boys like girls. Duh. Girls play minecraft. Boys play minecraft. Boys in minecraft bother girls. Girls get annoyed. Girls make private server. Boys want to join. Boys get jealous.
END OF DISCUSSION!

No, your argument is invalid. Making your server private just for girls is immature, because that is stereotyping the whole male gender to being annoying. Which then, you could just bring out the ban hammer for anybody that is annoying. And hey, who ever said girls can't be annoying?
As to advertising here, yeah, discrimination in a hateful way in not allowed here, as it's just a form of flaming, but simply not allowing certain people to join their server isn't breaking any rules.

What if some guy brand new to these forums came on, and the first thing he saw was that post, and got the bad idea that these forums were promoting segregation. This forum is supposed to be meant for everyone, where no user receives more power than another.
citricsquid, under "Applying to be a moderator":
"The goal is to create a friendly environment that welcomes all users and allows for constructive Minecraft discussion and content sharing."
I can understand that, but everything else I don't. I believe it is a post that fully violates the forums rules.
The user would more or less likely just move on down the list to the next server on the list, or continue reading titles until one catches his interest.
edit from here:
This goes back to my post here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1923878-my-stance-on-segregated-servers/page__st__20#entry23725863
All server recruitment threads are voluntary. By no means is anyone forcing you to join that server, belittling others who don't join that server, or disallow you to join / make your own server.
Yes, all girls on the forum have become moderators and guys have officially been banned from the forum..
And to answer something the OP said
How can the server be girl-friendly when the majority of players are guys.
Also would you not say that discrimination against girls occur on even large server. And no I'm not talking about the server itself being discriminating, but the players.
Just have to love it when someone changes the specs when comparing with and without optifine..
I don't really see how that is even related to the topic.
Just have to love it when someone changes the specs when comparing with and without optifine..
I realized that the last line was a bit off topic and deleted it. Even though I already deleted it, thanks for notifying me.
Take notice of the word "most likely". Meaning there's a chance he would not. Again, commenting your opinion if you like a topic or not in the topic was not the point of the thread. Those posts are / were off topic and removed.
The moderators and admins of that section will determine if anything "suspicious" is going on.
The topic is "my stance on segregated server" and the thread is about segregation and discrimination topics on the forums. The thread that is brought up is the sample that OP posted, but it was not limited to just this topic.
