Hey staff, owners, admins, or just members. Today I am in request for a rule. This rule applies to the 'Minecraft Tools' section. The rule is that if you make a tool , and have a download link for it, you MUST have a virus scan. The reason being is many people have RATs (Remote Administration Tool which basically means they can control your computer) sometimes encrypted into the files and can be totally undetectable by a common computer user. But if they have a virus scan then people will know that it is safe. Also the virus scan must NOT be from virustotal.com cause they don't detect a RAT if it is encrypted well enough. Just the other day, I saw a post from a guy that made the topic around 2011 I think or 2012 I don't know. But it was about some type of server already setup or something, he had pages of comments on it giving good feedback! even recent people! So I downloaded it. Turns out it was a RAT and he was controlling my computer, opening pages, he could have deleted my system32(runs the computer). And the was right from the tools section of MinecraftForum.net. Now i'm not sure if you want that to happen to you. I imagine you do not. So please consider this as a rule for the tools section of Minecraft Forums. Thank you for taking your time to read this. Luckily I had a professional guy who was able to help me out and remove the RAT so my computer is clean. Don't risk your computer with something that does not have a virus scan. You NEVER know.
If you download things it's at your own risk. It would be almost impossible to check every single download. You should also know to look at the hyperlink and see if it's from a well known trusted site. Don't download it if it's from a site like: thisisatrustedsiteandyoushouldknowitlalalalalalallalalla4367983279472982.com
Look! that is a RAT if you download it DO NOT DOWNLOAD THAT^, look at all those good reviews, how in the heck am I suppose to know if it's safe with all those good reviews? In my opinion the user who uploads it should have a virus scan. That's all Im trying to say
It may have been taken down ill check again . But their was many comments on it! I thought it was a good file, then I downloaded and it was a RAT.
[removed for safety to your computer purposes]

So you post a link with a virus on it for everyone to click on. Good idea. Anyways it was probably an ad from the site that he hosted the file on, thats why you get a GOOD antivirus.

its to report the topic,it's not like you click on the link and you get the RAT. and noo it was not. side ads dont give you RATs this guy used mediafire therefore he encrypted the RAT so it wouldnt be taken down on mediafire. plus he gives a direct link to media fire. and still. you dont know if its bad until you download it now do you? you cant right click the link with your antivirus to see if the download link is good can you?...
We try our best to insure all content is not malicious. We cannot guarantee this though, however we do try. If you think you find malicious programs, report it and we will investigate it. Forum software is simply not able to really do what you want.

Well I reported it. all I can suggest is that if a user uploads something, they can at least put a virus scan on it. It's not that hard.
yes if you use virustotal, and elementscanner can easily pass viruses if you encrypt them right. But im talking just a simple virus scan from AVG Free Virus Scanner.Which can work for files not just a whole computer
I suggest using Avast. It is free (you can get an upgrade, which is just a little better than the free, but costs money) I use Avast and viruses rarely get past it. I don't suggest using AVG. I got several viruses while using AVG before I switched to Avast.

Well therefore a virus scan of Avast or something like that should be required.
This would be impossible. And Avast does not catch things either.
it's not impossible? its not that hard to download a virus scanner for files? and yea one of them will catch something, thats why there probably some of the best antivirus programs out there...

For what you want, yes it is. We do scan things, but we cannot scan everything nor can we do it for every topic that may change their link. If you find it, report it. That is the best that the forum software will let us do.
It is easy for us to manually scan them, but we will never have that kind of manpower to be able to scan each and every link that comes and account for files being changed without any way for us to know that they were. It is simply not possible.
Also, here is an awesome suggestion I had: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1745550-biome-effects/

Virus scans are also not reliable. You can have malicious programs pass a virus scan.
I am ninja'd far too often.
