Microsoft Security essentials has always been terrible, I would suggest getting AVG free edition, it's one of the best you can get without having to pay.
I disagree. MSE is about as unobtrusive as a AV could possibly be, and after years of computing and gaming, I base 100% of my judgement of an AV program on this sole factor. Quite honestly, I think AV programs are a complete waste of time and the only reason I use one at all is because MSE is so invisible. I've been infected before even tho AVG was running. The fact is... if the virus signature isn't in the AV program's database yet, then it cannot and will not stop it from running. People who use viruses to spread their crap know this fact. So every virus is a new virus, for the most part. AV's wont' stop em immediately, and when they do, the perps will just move on to a new one.
For the average computer user, any AV is fine. Just don't pay for one, that's all. I just talked my mom out of paying Symantec for yet another year's worth of her beloved Norton. The fact I was installing a Microsoft product seemed to put her at ease. PT Barnum effect.
(furiously clicking THIS ISN'T AN ATTACK SITE but it refuses to listen lol)
Whew, scared the crap out of me when I Googled something and found a link to the forums, then clicked it and it said the page wasn't safe. I thought I'd installed malware accidentally and it was sending out fake alerts, kinda relieving to see it's not just my computer.
Silly Chrome, viruses are for Windows!. But seriously, I'm viewing this on Ubuntu and even of this site had malware, it's not as if it would do anything to my computer.

I have to agree with alizona. i've always found avg absolutely horrible. if it so much as thinks something is wrong. it stops you from pretty much doing anything. theres been talk that avg itself can be considered malware because of this behavior. on top of that its a ram hog. right now microsoft security essentials is taking up 4mb of ram. when i was using AVG i saw it up as high as 50mb. that just simply isnt acceptable. the "free" version of avg isnt also that great because you loose out on a lot of features that you just simply need to properly manage the program. microsoft security essentials will leave you alone, quietly scanning in the background. it doesnt bug you when there is an update available. you can also have it update before each scan. meaning when the scheduled scan comes around. you dont have to worry about something being missed. on top of that you can tell mse to only take up so much cpu %. so that even when the scheduled scan comes around it wont take up any more cpu then you tell it to.
on top of mse, i also run "spybot search and destroy" meaning any malware that mse misses is caught by it. in total between the teatimer from sb s&d and mse. i'm loosing about 25mb of ram. far better than avg.
Well as soon as I saw my computer saying that this website was evil and had been distributing malware I scanned my computer to make sure it wasn't just to make sure my computer didn't have a virus.
LOL, thanks Citric. The forums weren't on this morning and I completely freaked when it said chrome sad it was malicious e-o
Tellin' all my friend's 'bout this right now and how its safe xD
The warning actually came from my Chrome Browser, really sorry if it's troubling you. It happened yesterday around 10PM(GMT+8), I was browsing the forum normally and clicked on a topic until suddenly I got a warning about Malware. I thought that was the only topic that I would receive a warning, turns out every other topic giving warning about it.
I highly recommend having two real-time malware blockers running at the same time. Avast & Threatfire are not only free, but they don't conflict with eachother.
Make texture packs? Tired of people telling you to upload better screencaps? Send me a message with a link to your pack & I can help. (Check my Planet Minecraft blogs for photography examples). http://www.planetminecraft.com/member/likalaruku/
This is happening to wayyyyy too many trustworthy websites. Honestly google, i don't really give a if the site might give me a virus. Why the hell do they feel the need to censor their results?
I was actually on Skype, and my friend was like "WHOA WHAT HAPPENED TO MCF!?" and he said that it was giving an alert. I tried it and it gave me the warning a few hours ago.. not happening anymore.

Shame!
It kinda does, it doesn't ACCTUALLY download the malware.

To tell them how to live is to prevent them living.
