So the GTX 770 came out today. At first I thought that based off the 780 pricing, and based off the fact it s "re-branded 680" it would cost $550-600, yet I was surprised. Currently the card can be found for around $400 putting it in the same price range as the 670, the 7970GHz and the higher end 7970 cards.
I was suspecting the performance to be worse than the 680 because of this but surprisingly its a bit faster. Not only does it beat beat out of the cards in its price range, the 680, but it also comes fairly close to the 780, a simple overclock should close the gap. Fairly decent for it's price.
I'm a bit confused on why Nvidia would do this, since it makes buying the 680 and 670 meaningless. It also comes with all the software features the 780 and the Titan have, which is nice, if you want to know more about those features you can read my post on the GTX 780.
Personally I think this is a decent card, if AMD doesn't come out with anything soon I might get one. (if i can get the money).
So what are your thoughts and opinions on this card?
It's interesting. There's really no reason to get a 680 anymore as tons of cards with ludicrous overclocks and custom coolers are actually $10-$20 cheaper than the cheapest stock 680. It's roughly neck and neck with the 7970 GHz, if not slightly above. A card @ ~1.2GHz should be a very interesting contender for high-end gaming value, as many cards are coming with 1.1GHz+ stock clocks out of the gate. The stock Windforce is clocking in at 1.14. I'd say it deserves a recommendation, in some cases, given its performance.
i5 4670k @ 4.9GHz - Stock Heatsink - The rest is melted silicon but I think I have a graphics card in there somewhere It surprises me how many people on this forum can't read benchmarks.
Normally I would be choosing AMD cards over nvidia cards, the 770 looks like a decent card. It might be the card that takes the crown for highest price to performance if AMD doesn't release a new set of cards and drivers within the next few months.
The GTX 770 won't last long.
The next gen Radeon HD series will put this card to shame. The 8950/9950 or whatever it's going to be called, will be like 400$~ and will beat the GTX 770. Considering that the next Radeon HD series isn't just a rebrand. The GTX 770 isn't much faster than the 7970 GHz Edition. So the next gen cards will kill this. Also if AMD improves drivers and latency.
Looks like NVIDIA's finally getting back into the P/P game, and this will definitely give AMD a tough choice until they get around to releasing the HD9xxx series (skipping the 8xxx series except for OEM rebrands, if I remember correctly).
Well, it looks like the 7970 is dead for now, unless you want the games; the 770 is around the same speed range, potentially faster, is getting the newest and greatest coolers, and to boot, is cheaper.

I think you shouldn't fully take the AnandTech comparison as a reference. You need to remember the 7970 GHz Ed. will always prevail at higher resolutions because of its 3GB VRAM (vs 2GB on the 770). You can notice that, at 1920x1080, the 770 is way better in some games.
There really is no "winner" here imo. Your choice should depend on the games you play the most and the resolution of your monitor; it's not wise to generalize and buy a videocard based on "X is better than Y".
That said, I think the 770 is a good card, but it would be better to wait and see what AMD releases against it before jumping to conclusions.
On a side note, I think it would've been better if NVIDIA sold the 780 for around 550 dollars rather than 650. People would go crazy on it.

the 3 GB ram doesn't have that much to do with it. you also have to remember that is nividia's next generation is more or less the same as AMD's current, then the 9xxx series will be a large blow to Nivida.
i don't think anything Nivida has is a good card ATM. 650 TI boost is close, but not quite.

The thing is whatever AMD releases later this year is going to blow Nvidia out of the water, 770 and below for sure. This generation it's only really going to be the 780/Titan that has anything to do with AMD's 9000 series cards. The real competition will be between Maxwell and what will soon be with us the AMD 9000 series.
IMO the titan and the 780 arn't even real competition for those who know facts. 2X 7950s fit in the budget of a 780 while performing better, and you can easily get 2X 7970s in the titan's budget.

I suppose its more or less to the 680 what the 7970GHz Edition is to a 7970 a slightly higher binned slightly higher clocked chip.
Yes, that's true, but this time the higher binned chip is cheaper

I honestly think 770 is the best video card currently for the price. Slightly better than a 680, same price as a 7970.
Plus you get nVidia technologies like Physx and CUDA.
But I'm still gonna wait for AMD's cards (mainly cause I can't afford any GPU currently so I have to wait anyways )
the 7970 still is better in most games (look at benchies above) also, Phisix is over rated, CUDA is hardly worht it most of the time.

Some of their drivers are so bad I'd almost be tempted to opt for a lower powered nvidia card because it'd probably perform better, or at least not do crazy things.

Least they don't bluescreen I suppose.
i have never had a single issue with the drivers that AMD have been setting out.

I used to have missing polygon issues with my ATi 4350.
because you know, in roughly 4 generations NOTHING has changed...
AMD's drivers are quite stable these days.

I've played quite a few games, notably MMO's that have major issues with AMD cards. They flat out cite it as being an AMD driver problem too, because the nvidia ones work fine.

I always find it comical when people use "hey it never happened to me, it can't be right." as a point. Because I'm sure you've tried everything out there with every card and all.

the game's programming could also be what makes the problems.
And you can just easily flip that argument on it's head and say "Oh, this problem happened to me, must happen to anyone!"
Anyways, returning on topic to keep from another ban (its getting really annoying) IMO the 770 will be useless unless the price actually competes with the 7970. until then its just as useful as a 780 or a titan (it isn't)

Exactly. Seriously the whole driver argument is invalid and the resort of fanbois who have no actually points to contribute nvidia have had their share of bad drivers and AMDs drivers are very stable these days
Fun fact, someone isn't a fanboy for disliking something you do.
I've used almost exclusively AMD/ATI cards for the entire time I've used computers, theres nothing about company love here, its called things not working when you own them.
Your argument is about as useful as people saying someone is a troll when they tell them that the sky is blue.
the game's programming could also be what makes the problems.
It could, though the fact it has happened to me with multiple games and its usually -only- an AMD side issue makes me think the opposite, I'm sure theres a few games and specific sets of drivers that NVIDIA cards have issue with, I just haven't ran into them personally.
And you can just easily flip that argument on it's head and say "Oh, this problem happened to me, must happen to anyone!"
i could, but I'm not saying that. I'm very aware that it doesn't happen to everyone, the only reason I don't think my cases were special were because the devs flat out stated there was a driver issue and quite a few other people reported them.
I was actually not even going to reply in order to get off the topic but of course someone had to be a genius and prompt me to explain why their pointless slandering is flawed.
