Found this at staples:
HP Pavilion Dv7:
8gb ram
i7 quad
17.3" 1600x900
1tb hdd
radeon 6770 (1gb)
And paid $550
I think I can make at least $300 profit, am I calculating this right?
If I could sell it for $850 I'd have $1200 to spend on an Asus g74 from Tigerdirect or Newegg.
Is this worth doing?
The graphics card is absolute dump. I would never buy that because it just loads up on CPU, and has a shitty GPU. You may be able to sell on ebay for 6-700 though? I don't see why anyone would buy from you if it's 550 at staples though.
I would build a desktop but I need something portable. I built a meh desktop that ran the games I played about a year ago but couldn't bring it with me on vacations. I eventually plan on building one with a $1000 budget.
If you can get it at Staples new for $550, nobody is going to pay $800 for it used.
Actually, it was on clearance and it was the display model. I cleaned it up quite a bit and here is a vid of it playing a shitty but nevertheless graphics intensive game.

Does not matter if you cleaned it up, it is still used electronics, too old to be worth something, not old enough to be retro. The price will go down every 6 months by ~$20.
Don't know why you would sell your laptop for more than you bought it for. I think that laptop is worth around $300. Just ebay or craigslist it or try your hardest to get to that $300 price point.

6650m vs 6770m = 6650m wins?
uh, no.
besides, even if it loads up on cpu, it's strong enough to handle it.
