I've been trying to get morrowind to run but every time I start it up 10-20 minutes in it completely shuts down my computer, I've already done compatibility mode, running as administrator, I didn't install any expansion packs or mods, I've downloaded all the patches. Does anyone have any Idea how I can solve this?
AFAIK you don't need compability mode for Morrowind even if you're using Vista/7. It workes just by installing it for me without any modifications. If you've cranked everything up to the max your computer might be overheating if it's a bit older and not so powerful (possibly prebuilt).
I use Windows 7 and I have a problem when it is not in compatibility mode.
its a longshot, but, have you tried running it as adminstrator? If that doesn't work try reinstalling the game since it could possibly be some corrupt files.

I said in my op that I ran as admin and I've reinstalled it 3 times
There is nothing that would cause your computer to shut down while playing a game unless it is hardware related in some manner.
What are your specs?
Is it overheating?
IIRC Morrowind does not have a framerate cap or vsync so chances are your card is rendering some insane framerate and killing itself because of it.
I limited the framerate down to 30 FPS and I'm still having the problem, however it seams to only happen in certain locations IE: near the end of addamasartus by the chitin pauldron on the ground
I think I figured it out, whenever both me and an enemy use an enchanted weapon it creates an insane amount of particle effects causing the problem, does anyone know how to lower the particle effects?

Honestly that is not normal and sounds like there is something inherently faulty going on with your system. Really a game should be able to run at 1 FPS due to overburdening and not kill a system or cause it to overheat, of course it wouldn't be very responsive.

well that's whats happening so instead of doubting my problem why not actually help
I don't know the conversion rate between Equestrian Bits and US Dollars, but I have 5 bits laying around, so here, take them.
*inserts the bits into a coin launcher ad launches directly at punchdacrepper's face for buying such a **** computer"
Next time, buy a Sager, ASUS, Lenovo, or MSi, and NOTHING ELSE. And clear it with us first, we know which ones are good.
Anyway.......
Are you using the Steam version, or the original disc copy?
Have you tried typing the CD key (if there is one) into Steam to get a free download of the Steam version? (Go to your Steam Library, in the corner click Add a game and then "Activate a Product on Steam".) - that's assuming you have the disc version.

I have the original disc copy however it was from back before CD keys so sadly I can't do that

You can't blame him for buying a Dell. I really doubt he knew Dell was such a bad brand, plus this doesn't help solve his problem.
If you can, try resetting your computer back before you got the update. Also, if your on Steam you can verify the cache files of the game.
PS: You should post this in Computers, Software & Technology. I've requested this thread to be moved there. Someone there can help you out.

In the case you don't get the answer you are looking for here, you could always try at the official Morrowind forums here:

It just doesn't make sense for it to only happen with one game. It's a game, it cannot affect hardware in that manner.

(I'm putting five dollars towards it being an HP.)
It's dell, you owe me 5 dollars
Well, it's almost as bad as an HP. I was close.
