I bought myself a Macbook pro (classic, 2012 ivy bridge) a few days ago, and as paying to max out its specs in the online store is WAY too expensive, I decided to get the 2.6 gigahertz model and upgrade it myself later. I'm not actually going to do it anytime soon, probably once this thing starts to become obsolete, but I want to know. What I'm planning to to is replace the hard drive in this thing with a 512 gig Crucial ssd. For that, it'd be useful if someone were to post a link to a tutorial showing how to do that. The next upgrade, however, is one that I've been kind of vacillating on whether to carry out. This review from iFixit shows that if I were to replace the graphics card (nvidia GeForce GT 650m) with a second ssd I would achieve significant increases in performance. About twice as good as the retina pro. So, i've kinda been wondering. In the future, should I do it? Minecraft is, after all, a game, so wouldn't it greatly benefit from a graphics card? Or would the increase in raw power make up for the absence of discrete graphics? And how good are the intel hd 4000 integrated graphics vs the nvidia card I mentioned above? (I'm well aware that the nvidia card would be much faster but it'll be helpful to know by how much).
Again, any links to tutorials detailing how to replace a mbpro hard drive (and possibly graphics card) would be appreciated, as would answers to the slew of questions in the last paragraph.
So yeah.
Thanks

your ****ed, the only thing you might possibly be able to do is remove the CD drive and add an SSD, thats it, the RAM and the rest has been soldered down and your screwed, HD 4000 is all you get, this is why we tell EVERYBODY to NOT get A SINGLE MAC ANYTHING, you also have a ridiculously high res that cannot be driven by HD4000 for games, it's too weak

That would apply to any laptop you buy, not just a macbook. If you're going to buy a laptop make sure it's one you'll be comfortable with for quite awhile.

The fact remains its total **** for the price when the sager i posed in his earlier thread could max BF3, for less, and if its not for gaming the laptop Battlekid posted is sill far better and will still game well for half the price

Okay, nobody cares. We're talking about how he can't upgrade his laptop, not if it was worth the money. We have enough of those threads, you're welcome to go post in one if you feel the need to repeat something that is repeated at least 100 times a week here.
I'm not sure why so many people here feel the need to not answer a question and instead put on their helmet and go crusading.
And he gave advice on how to remedy the situation; refund and get the laptop he linked to, etcetera, etcetera. It's pretty damn sound advice. Why? Because if you read the OP, he cares about performance to price, else he would just max out the specs when buying his MacBook.
OP asked how he should upgrade his macbook, I replied with the fact you can't upgrade it(any laptop.) I did not go off on a tangent about how horrible macs are and then link a non-mac laptop he thinks the OP should buy. I don't think that counts as part of the question and realistically is just more mac-hate-plastering that I see the same people do here ten times a day.
If the OP wants to come back and ask if he should return it and get another laptop then it would be appropriate to give him ideas. Some of us get tired of reading the same people pissing out anti-mac comments in every other thread
If you'll turn on your analytical skills for a moment please, you'll see that the OP is asking these questions ultimately because he wants max hardware, but it's too expensive. So I'm sorry, in this case, what Wolley suggested really is the best course of action.
You're both just here to bash macs, you've made that perfectly obvious with every post you make relating to them. I already said if the OP wants to ask what he should do then he can ask, he doesn't need you to ask the question for him. All I read was him asking how to upgrade his macbook, you don't know his reasoning or motives or if he prefers to get a mac over a laptop or any number of other things.
Only the OP can tell us these things and I would appreciate that you stop acting like you have all the answers because you think you understand everyone to a T. He asked a simple question, I gave a simple answer, now he can reply back and ask more questions or be satisfied with the answer.
If you have what you think is a better suggestion, please post it. Christoi did. You've established that the OP can't upgrade his MacBook. Great, that doesn't solve his problem with performance. I'm sticking with my opinion on what the best course of action would be. You are welcome to express yours too.
I'm not going to answer a question someone else invented. Although the OP obviously wants more performance that doesn't mean he might not want a macbook above another laptop and instead settle with the one he has, or even get another model of macbook with higher(not "maxed") specs.
I know you like to pretend you know everyone perfectly based on your analytical skills but I've found it less rude to wait and see what questions a person wishes to ask than to try and answer the questions you think they want answered.
Please. Just because his post suggested getting a computer other than a Mac does not make it "mac-hate-plaster".
Please stop pretending you're stupid, we know you aren't, it doesn't do anything for your arguments. If you want I can highlight his completely unneeded mac-hate lines.

From time to time, people recommend Chillblast to people looking for pre-builts. The next time someone does, you had damn well better rant about how they are anti-Acer, anti-Dell, anti-HP, anti-Sony, anti-Toshiba, etc., otherwise you're just being inconsistent.
I would but people don't go on neurotical rants about chillblast on a regular basis like so many people here do about macs. The point of the thing is that I(and many others) are tired of reading it. If you want to suggest someone not get a mac then PM them about it, it gets old reading every other thread "HURR YOU BOUGHT A PAPERWEIGHT" or "HERE LET ME LINK 20 IMAGE POSTS DETAILING WHY MACS ARE FANCY WATER, HURR." Really, nobody cares.
If it makes you feel better I would likely say to stick to the OP's question if this were the same thread using any other brand, it would depend on the context though and whether I felt it warranted me saying anything.
Oh wait, I didn't see the thread title. It's about Macs. That means all our posts must be pro-Mac and suggesting anything non-Mac, even if it would be the best course of action, is forbidden, because it's considered "anti-Mac", doesn't it? My bad.
I like how you assume just because I'm tired of reading your mac poaching crap(and other people's) that you must assume I'm protecting them. It's forbidden to talk about stupid things that just cause arguments when someone didn't specifically ask about them(although they shouldn't be asking that question anyway, there are more than enough threads detailing the mac debate already.)
I know it may be an alien concept to you and a few others but some of us are here to answer questions and not just argue about the same dumb crap all day to fuel your ego. I say ego because at this point there is literally no reason for people to bash macs in every thread except to start a flame war.
I agree with Satharis. Keep the Mac trash talking for people who are considering buying a mac. If a topic like this comes up, just answer the question, don't slam a crap ton of buyers remorse in their face. It's completely rude and unnecessary.

The other MBPs are somewhat upgradable (RAM, disk, maybe CPU).
Don't remove the graphics card! That's just stupid.
