The computer itself sucks for gaming, that is, I would only recommend for people who only play Minecraft and serf the web, NOT Skyrim, Battlefield 3, or anything like that.

It's not great in itself, put a new GPU in and it would be great for that though. It would play Skyrim fine, not on high setting though, not sure about BF3.
Not that cheap after all, performance is entry-level.
A Radeon HD 6450 1GB is entry-level gaming, which means that Minecraft would run fine, but other games may not.
The CPU is really old, about three years old. A better budgeted CPU core would be an A4/A6 or with a dedicated graphics card, a FX-4100 Quad Core.
The motherboard is so old it still has the Nvidia brand name on it.
About the same price if you don't have the rebates... You also wouldn't need to put it together, so that's not really a good counter-example.
The parts new, totaled, is only $385 and that is on the high end, a more realistic price (because they most certainly did not use the most expensive version of the parts I listed) would be $300.

Also known as "We are trying to emulate Alienware". Sigh.
Let's see:
That should cost nowhere near $575.
The processor is only $70
The mobo is, at most ~$75
The 8GB DDR3 is more than likely between $30-40
The HDD is more than likely ~$80-90
The 6450 is only $35-40
The disk drive would only cost around $20
The case more than likely only cost $30-50

That is a better counter point...
I could have looked up exact parts (which are most likely cheaper and/or refurbished) but I'm lazy.
I know that feel.
On top the discounts they get for bulk parts.

Mhm.
Pretty much drives the actual price down like a rock.
