ASRock are quick when it comes to manufacturing motherboards.
Chinese Xfastest has put out pictures of ASRock X79 Extreme 7, a new motherboard with the Intel X79 chip set for the next and upcoming Sandy Bridge-E series. Although the exact specifications have not yet been revealed, it is possible to see several interesting details on the matte black PCB.
This new processor socket LGA 2011 is surrounded by six DDR3 memory slots.
Current control around the base is cooled by several unusually high flanges that are connected by heating pipes. Above the X79 you can also see a small fan, suggesting that Intel's new chip set is a hot little bugger.
More details are five PCI Express x16, full ten Serial ATA whereas probably four SATA 6.0 Gbps, eSATA, USB 3.0 and THX-certified audio circuit with both analog and digital outputs.
It's rumored to be released around the middle of November.
It's a fan, yes. It's because it's rumoured that the motherboard is producing more heat than normal.
And why the extra ram slots? To get more ram I assume : p
Well, I mean, more RAM is fine, but the positioning is absolutely terrible.
The RAM between the CPU and backplate is not going to get any cooling whatsoever, most mobos I've seen with 6 RAM slots have it below the CPU or with the other RAM slots.

That's because they've added extra heatpipes etc.
I think the placement is perfect. Where else would they place it to keep the ATX format?
Theoretically is there any issue using a xeon LGA2011 in this board. I guess seeming as its the same socket there won't be an issue assuming you would want to do that
I don't think so. The only issue would be if you would want to run dual Xeons.
didn't think there would be a problem. I only asked because I saw xeon on the list of processors being released.
What I want is a twin xeon mini itx board. Impossible but would be amazing if it existed.
Twin atoms might be achievable
It's not going to happen. It's just too mechanically and technically difficult to achieve a dual-cpu setup on a mini itx board. You may not see it, but all the circuits would need major re-routing etc and I don't think they have the technology to minimize space enough to make it possible.

It's in Swedish (I'm practically famous for bringing news from there, but they are fast, quick and reliable). I'll see about putting up a description.
It's got a fan because it's rumoured to run hotter than Sandy Bridge.
The expansion slots are aligned..... oddly. Why is the PCI slot in the middle of all the PCI-e slots, or rather, why is it in an odd numbered slot?
If I wanted to do SLI/xfire with 3 GPUs that take up 2 slots each, I couldn't.
Also what is with the RAM slots next to the back ports? That is going to get in the way of a LOT of HSFs.

That is completely true : )
If that is true, why is it showing 3 dual channels/2 triple channels...?
This is why I don't trust ASRock so much, says they have the latest thing, doesn't have main features of latest thing on their boards...
Because I think that quad channel applies to E-ATX boards and tripple channel applies to ATX boards etc.
Either that, or they do it in different versions.
I can't use multiple GPU's if I want my sound card in there... Maybe the motherboard's integrated technology doesn't suck ass?
[Edit] Yes I can...
What CPU's use the LGA 2011? Just asking.
COME AT ME BRO!
Confirmed CPU's.
These are the only ones that's been revealed.
It's supposed to have better integrated sound than most modern day motherboards.

This is not X58 -.-
I know it's not, that was in reply to 6677's post about not all X79 boards need to have quad-channel, which I believe they do.
