I purchased a copy of Pokémon Emerald, and it arrived today. When I opened it, my first thought was that it didn't look right. I immediately jumped on YouTube. I found a good video called "How to Spot a Fake Pokémon Emerald" By Daniel Hansen.
My game fitted in with 2 of those signs.
* The sticker isn't shiny (May be due to it wearing out)
* When I boot up the game, it says "A previous save file has been found. The game can be played".
But he also said "The fakes don't have the writing on the inside".
Other than that, it seems legit. I will attach some pictures below. So if anyone owns a legit copy of Emerald, can you please let me know whether or not this is the real deal?
Dude that is pretty sketchy. There may be letters on the inside, but they could have used an old Gba cartridge. The label looks super fake though...after looking at my emerald version, I notice the whole label has a metallic sheen to it, in a triangular type pattern. Like a holographic card. Does yours have this?
Edit: my brother got a pirated castlevania game one time. It had serious programming glitches and constantly lost saved data. If you can return this I would recommend it. Also the type text in Pokemon is really... Off

It doesn't. I suppose this is what I get for buying things online, but there isn't too many places that actually sell it in store. I'll be getting a refund asap. Thanks for the help.

No probs man. After my brother got that pirate game (also ordered offline) I've kind of kept a lookout. Some you may not be able to tell when you play it, but like I said, they may also have trouble keeping save data down the road, so it's always best to get it exchanged.

A wise person once said: "Offense is never given, only taken."
While I was in Thailand a few years ago, a shop was selling "Pokémon Chaos Black." Obviously fake, but I bought it anyway just for the pure novelty of it.
A mysterious game cartridge you ordered online with a save file already in it? Am I the only one who thinks this sounds like the beginning of a mediocre creepypasta?

To help you, It's fake. I have that game, and I bought over 50 Versions of the one game. 6 of the ones I have are fake. (I bought 50 to give to friends, etc)
It doesn't matter though. The game works, so it doesn't matter whether it is fake or not.
In fact some people say fake ones have a little more value to certain collectors.
What do they do, just buy one copy and load it onto a blank cartridge? Other than it being illegal, I can't imagine what kind of actual downsides there would be for the game itself. I would think they would just copy the entire thing and not go mucking around in the compiled code.
Definitely fake. Send it back to the seller of they offer refunds. If it says anything along the lines of 'This game can be played'(other than the internal battery being dry), it is fake. Besides, the label is holographic and that ESRB rating is shady like all of the generation III games.
My Emerald is shiny, has a circle around Nintendo on the chip, model no. AGB-002, and its constantly deleting the save. I bout it for $25 at a GamerDoc in Cherry Hill, NJ, and when it doesn't delete my save it says A Previous Save File Has Been Located. The Game Can Be Played. I would put a picture up, but I don't know how. I've been working for 30 minutes trying to copy the picture and paste it into here, upload it to Picasa, but I can't do on Picasa. I'm on android.
So here's the deal. The cart is fake, and you should demand a refund immeditely. However, do not, and I repeat, NOT send the game back. In the US, punishments for sending counterfeit goods through the mail, such as your cartridge there, carries some absurdly stiff penalties such as multi-million dollar fines and jail time. (Source) Technically, the seller could be subject to the same law, but I'm guessing that the seller is from some Asian country out of jurisdiction.
Note: I'm not a legal expert by any means and laws are different outside the US. It's worth looking up your rights to protect yourself in cases like this.

"I often think about that old metaphor, the one that says we are all islands on a wide sea. Especially these days, now that things are more difficult than before and the world appears to be harsher than we once imagined it to be. We are all like islands, the philosopher said. Perhaps it's true. Yet I cannot help but remember an older saying, scratched on a cave wall somewhere by a long-forgotten prophet: in the end, the sea will claim everything."

Why're you worried about whether it's legit or not?

I hate counterfeit things.

What's wrong with counterfeit things?
The board is also completely different.

Your's is fake, your ESRB rating is the shape of the fake ones lol. The real ESRB E for Everyone is NOT shaped like that. You can compare yourself if you want to.
Side Note: Given the screenshot "warps your ERSB's E, just compare yourself tbh, do not take my advice.
If you think you're buying the real thing it's kinda... Disappointingly aggravating.
Venit, quessit, induravit.
Makes sense, I guess.
Thanks for the image, by the looks of things, my copy is defiantly a fake.

If creepypasta has taught me anything, it's that they're haunted.
I'd like it if one I bought for whatever reason had their old save file. I could transport their Pokemon up to my newer games.
