Dude, there's a Skyrim thread.
This is more for the older games, lore, etc.
Opinions?
MODS FOR SKYRIM!
$200 for a new video card and power supply. Very worth it.
It's cool if every book in the TES lore is in it.
Windows 7-Ultimate 64 bit
Intel Core I5 quad core
8 gb ram
500 gb of memory
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti
1920x1080 resolution
Is that good to run skyrim?
To run Skyrim? Yes. Running Ultra High? Probably not. You'll most likely be able to get decent framerate with most of "High" options.
Hehe, when it automatically setted the framerate it chose ultra-high, well it lags at some point, mostly the dragon attack when I tried to start over. Well High resolution works fine.
Never tried the premade classes, I always created my own.
So, it starts like this. The basic Elder Scrolls theme music starts playing, and things fade in to the player's first person view, at a prison cell (naturally). You see a Khajiit with a dagger, who says "Hey, wake up. The guards are gone. What's your name?" A window then appears for the player to input the character's name. After that, he says: "Somebody got their attention, I think it's safe to go now".
The player and the Khajiit exit the cell and walk a corridor, when a door opens and three Imperial soldiers (one Imperial male in white-and-gold Watch armor, one Orc male in normal Legion armor and one Nord female also in Legion armor) come in. The Watch captain says "You two must be the prisoners. Come with us, the Thalmor soldiers are already dead".
As the player and Khajiit follow them outside, he says "Looks like this is our lucky day". As they come out, you see Elsweyr in all its glory. The captain tells the Khajiit the follow the other guards, and to the player: "Well, it's good we found you. Not sure if you heard of it, but the Empire is trying to free the province from the Aldmeri Dominion so we'll need all the help we can get. Welcome to the Legion". A small pause, and he asks: "Where do you hail from, prisoner?" You select your race, all the ones we're used to.
That is the start of the short tutorial. You follow the guard down a road, where you can see some dead Thalmor (apparently they couldn't be looted, I actually tried it in the dream). "Elsweyr can be a dangerous land. Take this weapon, you will need it" the legionnaire says, then you choose if you want a shortsword, a two handed sword, a warhammer or a one handed axe. A few rats appear, so you can test your weapons.
The captain says "You do seem skilled on fighting. Speaking of skilled, what sign were you born under?" Then the player chooses a birthsign as normal. He comments on the sign you choose as well. After a few more rats and Alfiqs, two Thalmor fighters (one with light armor and the other with heavy) come and you must kill them. "That was close! However, Riverhold is just ahead and the path seems safe. From what I've seen, you are a skillful <he suggests a class for you>, correct?" You can then choose a class - oh yeah, they're back! - which may or may not be the one he suggested, or create a custom one.
When you're done, you're asked to confirm all your choices. The captain then says "I need to get back to my fellow legionnaires. See the Legion commander at Riverhold, 't remember>, and he'll set you straight. Also, be free to take whatever you need from those warriors, they won't need it anymore. Farewell, and good luck".
A message appears saying "You are now free to explore Elsweyr as you wish." Then I woke up.
Just though I'd share these ideas with you guys
That'd actually be a pretty awesome opening. Bethesda should hire you for ideas, bro.
Note: The following post is my opinion, my arguments, and I'm not trying to change anybody's opinion. Just discussing rationaly.
I think in various ways Oblivion is better than Skyrim.
- Better storytelling. Storytelling is how the plot progresses, and how things are told. For example: the Gray Fox's identity being foreshadowed brilliantly. The way you must read the books and solve the riddles to find the Mythic Dawn shrine. The Mages Guild quests starting low and gradually revealing Mannimarco's plot.
- Better writing. This is the core plot in itself. The main quest writing in Skyrim was plain idiotic for a TES game ("lulz yeah dragons are here, you meet greybeards, you meet blades, you kill Alduin"). But in Oblivion you had generally a better story, I could elaborate but I don't think it's necessary.
- Better guild progression. Oblivion has a perfect system of rising in a guild and being promoted: the quests require you to use the skills necessary for that organization, such as stealth in the Thieves Guild. Even better is the realism on advancing: you need to steal a lot to get new thief quests, you need to get recommendations from all guild halls to access the Arcane University, etc.
- The world itself. TES was always about adventure, and Cyrodiil passed that feel well. Skyrim's rough world, while beatiful, wasn't quite as calm and therapeutic.
- Shivering Isles. If you played it, you'd know what I'm talking about. Seriously, its quality is so large it makes Skyrim look like a very basic game.
- Characters. Oblivion has well developed and memorable characters; even citizens have a personality, and people like Mankar Camoran or Jauffre even more so. Skyrim has fewer.
- Gameplay: I won't lie, Skyrim's gameplay is very fun. But it's more simplistic and, as some say, "dumbed down" for an RPG like Elder Scrolls.
- Lore: Skyrim is full of retcons... Sorry, as a lore junkie I feel compeled to say this.
- Ancient ruins: Oblivion makes Ayleid ruins quite different and original. Skyrim took the alien aspect the Dwemer had to overuse it and make it lesser.
- Classes and attributes: Make the game complex and more intelligent.
- Dungeon variation: Skyrim has bandits, dwarven, draugr, vampiric, and necromancer. Oblivion has Ayleid, necromancer, conjurer, bandit, daedric, goblin, marauder, vampiric and undead. This isn't opinion, the number is higher.
- Lack of culture: Morrowind and Oblivion have the Dunmer, Nibenese and Colovian cultures pretty set and unique; Nord culture in Skyrim isn't as well explored as it should be.
- Architeture: Seems more unique.
I could go on, if you wish. I don't dislike Skyrim; I love it in fact. I'm just rationally arguing to justify my opinion that Oblivion is better.
By the way guys, I'm making a mod for Oblivion where the player can join the Imperial Legion. Ideas?
The level system is dumbed down to me unlike in oblivion....
Besides there is some funny things to do with it, like being an invisible thief capable of one shotting every goddamn draugr.
Man even if I'm not into the daedra's I know their place. Good thing his face met my daedric mace.
Even though I miss that part, I still want to say "This is a daedric mace! Where do you think this will go?!"
Well, actually since the mace comes from Dagon's plane, he'd get it right.
Thank you.
Comments in bold. And, people, this one is actually getting made unlike the previous idea! I've checked to see if nothing similar exists.
