You've got my beat! Mine's only about 13 years old.
Ten years ago wasn't so bad. There were a ton of forums and playing flash games was the big trend. But it was very different than today even so. There was no Facebook, no YouTube. MySpace had just started out.
But I also remember about 15 years ago. That was the age of very horribly designed websites. Flashy colors, animated gifs, sounds playing in the background of pages that you couldn't mute. Animations followed your mouse cursor around. Google wasn't really even around back then so people used sites like Yahoo Search, Ask Jeeves, and AltaVista. It was surprisingly hard to find what you actually wanted to look for.
What I remember the most is "You've got mail!" AOL was the the pinnacle of internet browsing. AOL Instant messenger was huge as was Yahoo Instant Messenger and talking in chat room on Yahoo. Then MSN chat rooms and role playing on them (though it was more like 15 years for those) Invision Free Boards those were amazing I remember when IF started it was pretty cool (before it became Zeta Boards) And of course no one can forget the Gerbil dance if you don't believe me go google Church of the Gerbil. just trust me on that and then click the gerbil dance. It will change your views forever. Myspace was the place to be and flash games on myspace were starting to emerge. Heck I still have my Myspace account from when Tom first started it.
Cant forget about the Yahoo Instant Messenger spam program that kicked people off if you didn't like them.
I think I have also forgot the most important website of all. Ebaums World! Now that is amazing!
Wow ten years have pass so fast it's even worse that I am turning 27 in a few months
Back when I was in Prep, which was in 2007, we had those old, bulky computers that took 15 minutes just to get on the desktop. When I got to Grade 2, I was shocked at how fast the computer went, because the school had gotten new computers. I've always had a fascination of the Internet since I started school.
It freaks me the hell out that I was using the internet 10 years ago. I wasn't involved in many communities at the time, probably because the extent of the communities were forums, Yahoo Chatrooms, and eventually MySpace. Now we have bigger communities, and the more people you shove into a room with a microphone the uglier it can get.
It was certainly less commercial (if you could call it that)
I mean Social Networking wasn't big and no corporate spying was a widespread as it is now.
And Netscape was the best browser.
And Winamp was the most popular Media Player

Considering Netscape Navigator had about 1% of the global browser usage share in 2004, I wouldn't exactly bet on that statement.
EDIT: Your exaggeration is noted. However, saying Navigator was the best browser 10 years ago would be akin to saying "Windows 98 was the best OS ever 10 years ago", in 2024.

I believe that Netscape was still relevant in 2004.
Firefox did exist but wasn't any better.
IE 6 was considered (more by people later on) as horrid. I would choose NS over IE if it were 2004.
Opera was also very good (But I still think it was ad supported at the time.)

And then these websites with these horrible SKULL.GIF with a background sound playing EVILLAUGH.MIDI.... bah

Ebaumsworld hahaha omg. the youtube before youtube (sortoff). life was so much easier back then. make account on yahoo, have access to the whole of the internet. no need for 24 character passwords and we still took some time off to walk to the store WITHOUT telephone... i miss those days sometimes.

I am pretty sure that corporate spying happend back then just as big as of today (in comparison with the internets size that is) now it is just easier to detect it because of all the social media. corporates are being corporates (or NSA or whatever agency) good luck trying to spy on my im behind 7 proxies!

Geeze, a bunch of the parts of my current PC are older than 2007. If you want to see an old bulky computer that took ages to turn on, you should've seen my very first PC from 1995. I don't recall how long it took to turn on, but it did take 10-15 minutes just to download new email. I used to hit "get email" and take a shower, and sometimes had enough time for breakfast before it was completely done loading.
I didn't go on 4chan.
Where did I say that I did?
Might want to re read it, as you obviously misinterpreted what I said
Also, less NSA mining.
and the fact that 4 chan wasnt even there 10 years ago made me laugh about these posts
I could have sworn 2003 was at least 10 years ago.
it had "just" started" cant really say it was there already can we? the amount of posts now compared with the beginning.... oh god i feel old now
Today, all you need is that guy's WiFi password.

I wont even argue with you on the correlation between having 1% usage share and being absolutely terrible.

Netscape was the best (I preferred Communicator myself) because it had native support for the blink tag!
