As most of you already know Dock is no longer involved in the Minecraft development.

Read more on the development blog.

i registered just to be able to respond to this one. what will this ultimately mean? dock's mockup minecrafter looked wonderful, and i was excited by the idea of that cool stylized art in minecraft. judging from the reason he gave for breaking it off, he's not going to look for a new artist either. is the game forever just going to use Notch's art?

don't get me wrong, the game looks great as-is, gameplay matters a lot, lot more, and i definitely don't want to see the system requirements go up, but a really good simple, stylized model like Dock's would've made the game look awesome as balls.

will this at least mean updates will come quicker?

The art may or may not change, but eitherway Notch is doing it all.

Updates are likely to come quicker, yes.

I'm slightly disappointed, as I thought the models Dock was working on look much more customizable then the ones we had now. So now the question is, will Dock re-join the team at some point, will there be a new artist eventually, or will Notch take thing over from now on?

Mod edit: Talk like that isn't welcome here. Just because he isn't on the project, doesn't mean you can pointless bash him. Remember the first rule of this place. This is your first warning.

I never really thought Dock's style "fit" with Minecraft's medieval themes.

Like Notch said, Dock is a much more eastern based artist, whereas Notch is western. The mix had potential to some, but I suppose I just didn't see it.

I continue to be disappointed by this news, it's also irritating since I know the feeling of it being easier to just make the artwork myself for a game but in reality a professional would do a much better job at bringing it to life.
And how exactly are people determining docks models don't fit seeing as I only recall seeing 1 model in the indev? I can only presume people determine anything more than a block instantly cant be part of Minecraft which is a very narrow view and could end up losing sales just to keep the minority happy.
Click here to PaypPal donate to a poor jobless Ex MCSharp dev who did most of the work anyway.

What is the license status on Dock's Minecraft work, specifically, the logo?
