My diamond mine's churning out such a profit, I decided to leave some diamond veins untouched as decoration. I found two diamond blocks which seemed symmetrical enough to form opposing corners of a room, but first I dug out the surrounding stone so I wouldn't accidentally mine them out from below.
The first block looked okay, if a bit average:
The second block, however, turned out to be more interesting:
The coal vein continues deep into the gravel, I stopped digging before uncovering all of it.
What's the largest contiguous ore block you've ever found?

Well, I can assure you guys it's legit, even though I'm just some weirdo on the Internet. :smile.gif:
This mine is churning out amazing riches -- in less than a week I've found over 50 diamonds, 200 redstone, 150 iron and a crapload of coal (hard to tell how much because it's all been used for torches.) That doesn't count the ores I've left in place, either. I'm planning to film the mine as the next installment of my "Guided Tour" (not really a Let's Play) once the pending videos are put online.

Do you mine all around the minerals before mining them?
Not always, but in this case yes, because I wanted to specifically preserve the diamond ore. Sometimes I'll run across similar deposits, with 2 or 3 different veins clumped together, but never before anything this size IIRC.

While it is possible for this to happen. I can't believe this really happened on the count of you can place those blocks in that order. Just call me paranoid.

You can't place diamond, redstone or coal ore w/o a world editor, because they automatically break down when you mine them. Iron & gold ore can be used for decoration anywhere, but the other three must be left in place.
BTW, I don't blame anyone for claiming this is a cheat (this being the Internet & all), but...is this really so rare? I'm rather surprised by that.

Even if it is really rare, it's pretty much guaranteed to happen from time to time given so many players. Like your odds of winning the lotto twice are EXTREMELY low. But the odds of SOMEONE winning the lottery twice over a period of time is nearly 100%.

Yeah, could it be a cheat? Of course.
Is it a cheat? Probably not.
I'd be willing to bet that structures like this exist in pretty much every minecraft map, and while admittedly, many won't be anywhere near caves, and thus nearly impossible to find, the probability of several veins of ore being adjacent to eachother is probably pretty high.
I do understand them for being skeptical, however, as there are a few reasons to be. For one, most people don't preserve their ores and mine around them, they just mine them immediately. Additionally, it would be painfully easy to fake if that was what you wanted to do. So many of the things on this forum are fakes that as you read more and more of them you become more and more skeptical. And while there is a benefit to being a skeptic, defaulting to skepticism makes you seem like a bitter asshole.
Yes, many, or even most of the dumb **** posted on these forums are fake, but it's highly unlikely that it's all fake. Personally, I choose to assume that if someone is showing off something plausible, then its probably real. Sure, you could be faking, but in that case I don't lose anything for choosing to believe you. You would actually be the loser, because you had nothing better to do than take a picture of hacked ores so people on the forums could tell you how jealous they are of you.
Honestly though, to all the skeptics: It's probably real. Its not even an unbelievable amount of any of those ores. Quit being assholes.
And it is possible, I came across a vein of ores side by side a couple nights ago: yielded 18 coal 8 iron and 20 redstone dust. No gold or diamond though.
OoO
It IS BEAUTIFUL!
I can only find around 1-2 diamonds and nothing else.
And you got WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more!
Nice find. Can i stea- i, i... i mean, bo- borrow, yea, borrow it?

I snapped this pick the other day before I mined it out. Three iron deposits and a forth you can't see around the corner.
I totally believe the OP.
BTW: Sometimes I use a cartography program to find :DORE:, it works pretty well.
Good luck and intuition, at least for this particular mine. It also helps to study efficient mining methods, and keep at it until you strike a motherlode.

My finds are paltry in comparison. I've found a 4x5x3 vein of coal, and ten diamonds very close together.

The biggest block of ores I ever found was 5 blocks of redstone and 2 diamonds.
This deserves a pun:
Minecraft "ore" bust, my friends!

Needless to say I worship the map generator now, and when I saw this, I wanted to punch out a horse (or sacrifice a cow to the fire god sh'ak'ti.

Diamonds only appear in layers 7 through 13, so if you were just looking for diamonds you did a lot of unnecessary digging.
