About this project
After I got tired of copying everything by hand I looked a bit jealous over to the various windows minecraft backup solutions and decided to write my own one. For Mac of course. But since some people asked it's also available for Windows and soon for Linux.

Version 2 online! I wanted to include at least the repair function but this was a bit urgent as the delete function didn't really work that great. Here's what changed since the last version:
* Fixed file deletion - I really didn't notice that it didn't work at all
* Fixed a lot of stuff behind the curtain. Many things are now a bit faster, more secure or just need less code to work
* Future proofed backupengine to support LARGE savegames
- Changed the "last changed" info text into something more readable
+ Added a window to select a world to restore a backup into. Now you can, as an example, restore your backup of world1 into (the maybe empty) world5
+ Added a status text to the working window to inform you whats currently happening
+ Added a button to delete old backups you don't need anymore
+ Added a window to ask you before deleting your backup
+ Added logging to console (at least from time to time as of now)
I missed this app the first time around, but this is AWESOME! Thanks for taking the time to share with us Mac users! I'm now backed up and ready to rock!
should go in mapping and modding.. i think at least.
Don't you think that more people will find and use this if it stays here? I'm only looking into the mapping and modding section if I'm searching for information about that. Not for 3rd-party software. Maybe it's time for a renaming of that board or a new sub-section?
Could you please send me a PM with your email address? I'm currently testing version 3 and I still need someone to test everything on linux. BTW: I finally finished the repair part :smile.gif: It'll be the biggest new feature in v3 with a completely changed interface. I'll upload it tonight/tomorrow depending if I add some more features or leave those for the next version.
I downloaded your Windows version of the backup software and backed up my primary save game. Unfortunately after doing so I am no longer getting sound in the game at all. Any advice?
Some info:
- running win7 64 bit
- tried re-downloading launcher
- tried restoring from single backup I created
- checked folders and sound resources are there
- made sure sound was turned on in options (though when I turn it up, each time I start it's back to 57% or something.
- rebooted computer
Please help! Sound was working fine until I ran the backup. Thanks.

Well this has to be a coincidence. TC copies folders from the MC save folder to the TC backup folder and does nothing else. You should open another topic about this because this couldn't be caused by TC, sorry :sad.gif:
Thank you for this. I lost a lot of my wooden fort and had to use an editor to put out the fire just because the stupid game auto saves every time you open the menu. Where are the backups saved? It would be nice to also change the save location so I could tell it to backup to a different hard drive that has more space.

Hey, guys.
Beta = released to the public.
Minecraft Alpha is Beta.
And don't turn this statement into an argument, please.

Backups are saved in /Library/Application Support/treasurechest/world#/backupdate/ or on windows in %appdata%/treasurechest/world#/backupdate/
Backup to a different location will follow soon. I just need some option screen. Next version (v3) will need a bit longer than I expected...
Version 3 is up now. Small improvements, new interface, repair option, enjoy :smile.gif: I hope you like the new version. Already started working on the next one with new functions and an option window. I'm still missing a screenshot for the windows version. The guy who did the prior ones is at sleep. Help is appreciated.
Version 3
---------------------
* Small bug-fixes
# Changed the GUI - Looks way better than the old one
# Changed console log
# Readme & Changelog now in HTML
+ Added/enabled savegame repair
+ Added MD5 check - Much more saver backups now but a little bit slower than before. That's the price to pay :smile.gif:
+ Readme added for those who are not sure what to do
Since the file verification slows down the copy process I made a quick fix (disabling it) which gives you the previous speed back. It is available for download now, please update if you feel TreasureChest is too slow. If you don't care you can still use version 3 with md5 support. This will be made optional in the next version which will introduce some more options to choose from :smile.gif:

I could have just compiled mine for windows too but there already is a good app for that:
Minecraft Backuping and Restoring Utility
thats awsome
and i will b using this, i feel like there are hardly enough third party programs on mac that help with minecraft. *cough* cartographer *cough*

I dont even visit that board, why would I even think about going there for a backup program?

Another reason for me not to release my inferior batch backup utility :S
