This mod allows you to craft flint from gravel. It also removes the random chance of getting flint from gravel when mining. To craft flint you need 3 gravel in a row on the crafting table to get 1 flint.
On that thread there is an alternative mod written by fotoply you might want to get instead that is slightly different variation.
Note:
The next update to Minecraft will disable this mod. Sorry, you will have to return to hating gravel.
Instructions:
Back up your minecraft.jar file. You need to open the minecraft.jar file using a zip utility like 7-zip, WinRar, Winzip. Replace using the files in the zip below. Remove all files in the META-INF folder except MANIFEST.MF (there should only be two files to delete).
Dude this kicks the most ass. I never installed a mod except for the HD patcher but this one is worth doing! I hate shoveling gravel, especially since gravel itself is a pretty crappy material not worth collecting.
EDIT: Doesn't seem to be working. Every time I click the download link it just pops up some crappy ad sites. Any insights?
Do you mean as in cheating fair? If so then you can get unlimited flint by placing and deleting gravel, i like this cause its faster. >:biggrin.gif:
Relative to the other one that lets one just exchange gravel for flint 1:1 as opposed to the 3:1 in this mod, this is fair. The three blocks of gravel is worth the time saved not punching flint.
I'm working on a single install tool for the mods. As soon as that is done I'll pack 'em all in. I may even throw in some of the other modders mods that could benefit (with the exception of texture mods). It will also save time and typing in installation instructions!

Sounds like you have some spyware on your computer redirecting your web browser. Try using Spybot S&D. It should clear those out. The link I gave is just to MediaFire which most modders are using. I original used RapidShare but it seemed to lose my files for no reason.

This will be a very good thing! We've needed a cross-platform tool that all modders can rely on to simplify patching; kudos for working on this. I hope you can incorporate the HD texture fix, and manager for texture packs.
Hey would someone please re-upload this mod, everytime I click on the download mod link at mediafire, it just reloads the page, it's freaking pissing me off.
The link still works. If you are having problems with MediaFire I would suggest you install an ad blocker for your browser. I never see ads so I never know how bad they are.
I am also open to suggestions for a better place to put files.
Well I can download other mods from mediafire, but yours is the only one giving me problems. Every time I click on "Click here to start your download" or whatever it says, it just reloads the page, or the page just goes to an error screen, (just that page mind you, not every one of my internet tabs).
Thanks for the quick response though, hope you get it straigtened out.

Mediafire hasn't given me this kind of issue until recently, but I have found out that occasionally clicking "save to my account" and redownloading it off of your own account will work. (This method will (sometimes) work if you don't have a mediafire account.)

Idea came from this topic thread: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=54770

But could you keep it all in one place?
