Here is the description of the Dragonator from the Monster Hunter wiki:
A Dragonator is any steam-powered melee cannon used to repel medium to large-sized monsters. While the developer and time of development are unknown, the Guild regularly installs them in strategic locations to repel large monsters. Dragonators consist of at least three pieces. The machinery, the weapon, and the control unit. Little is known about the machinery, other than the fact that it uses pressurized steam to launch the weapon. The steam is provided by a coal-fed fire. The location of the fire is unknown, presumable under or behind the weapon. The weapon itself consists of massive rod-like objects which are propelled by the steam at high velocities at the target area. The weapon can be as simple as stone rods, or as complex as spiky, spinning drills. There can be multiple rods launched from each Dragonator. The control unit is where the cannon is fired from.
While the internal machinations of Dragonators are a mystery, they are quite user-friendly and easy to operate. A large button is usually placed somewhere relatively safe, but still within view of the machine, for targeting purposes. All one needs to do is simply press the button when the time is right. (note that some buttons may require a Pick Axe to press) There will be a short period of waiting while the steam is building. During this time, hunters may hear the whirring of steam or the clanging of machinery. After the steam has built, the weapon of the Dragonator is propelled forward at massive velocity. Anything in front of the weapon will be devastated. Once all of the momentum has left the weapon, it will be retracted back into the wall or structure where it came from, and begin recharging. Dragonators take a long time to build up enough steam to fire again. Because of the melee nature of these cannons, it is advisable to wait until the monster is very close before activating them.
So basically, a block that is placed (somewhat like a dispenser), that when shot, fires a wooden/stone/iron "spike" or "beam" in that direction roughly 4-6 blocks. The Dragonator would require about a minute to recharge itself, but can instantly kill any mobs it hits. It would be built in separate parts:
Beam:
[] []
[] []
[] []
Where iron = the block you want it made from (wood (logs), smoothstone, or iron blocks) The different types of materials dictate its recharge time. Wooden ones will recharge in 1 min 30 seconds, Stone ones in 1 min 15 seconds, and Iron ones in 1 min. There is also the possibility the rod will break on use. If it is broken, 2 of the materials used (wood logs, smoothstone, iron blocks) will be refunded. They have the same durability as their tool counterparts. Each use drains one point, and each mob hit will drain one point.
Operation Mechanism:
Where red flower = redstone. This is one of the two blocks which is placed to make the Dragonator. NOTE: THIS BLOCK CANNOT BE PLACED WITHOUT BEING LOADED FIRST. When it is placed, and if the beam breaks, it can be right clicked with another beam to be reloaded.
Firing Mechanism:
[] [] []
Where half step = stone pressure plate. This is the second of the blocks that must be placed. Depending on where it is placed behind the operation mechanism, it will face that direction. Right clicking on it, when it is located next to a loaded Dragonator, will fire it.
To equip operation mechanism with the Dragonator:
[] [] []
[] [] []
Where diamond = operation mechansim, and iron = Dragonator rod. When this is placed, along with a firing mechanism, it will shoot the barb outwards.
Dragonator Control
This block can be used to activate multiple Dragonators, or operate them from a distance. They can be placed and connected to the dragonators via redstone. When right clicked, it activates the current once, and will ONLY work on Dragonator firing mechanisms (so doors and the such will not be affected by the current, likewise, normal redstone currents will not affect the dragonator without a control being activated) It is crafted as follows:
Where halfstep = stone pressure plate and red flower = redstone dust.
NEW: Drill Beam
This can be crafted together with an iron rod to form a drill beam, which when fired, causes enemies next to the drill (as it retracts) to take damage like they are touching a cactus. See the following illustration:
Where halfstep = Dragonator, orange = area where monsters are DAMAGED, and red = area where monsters are KILLED. It is crafted as follows:
Where iron = iron rod and leaves = cacti.
Just a rough idea for now. I'm not even sure if it is possible to do via mods.
EDIT: Images from the game to help with the idea -
Take the dispenser code for spawning an object. Make it spawn that "drill or whatever pops out". Upon spawn the drill counts down and does an animation. The drill contact with any object would do damage. Then after the timer is out drill disappears. Then the "dispenser" renamed the dragonator with a different skin would start to count another timer , and cannot be fired till that timer is done.
Btw. The dragons are not going to be big i almost garantee this.

If a tnt is put in, the resulting fire would be equivalent to a artillery shell or a tank shell.

Put in. Doesn't mean that you have to use the tnt's explosion. Just the fact that a tnt is in it would change the value of the force of the "dragonator".

I will add some new things in soon. Also, if there are blocks in front of the Dragonator, it will be unable to fire. New item will be a central control, that can fire off multiple Dragonators at once, given they are connected via redstone and they are all powered up.
I think this would be pretty sweet with the Jurrasicraft mod.
I haven't found one in MHTri yet... If I knew how to mod I would make this
*spoiler alert*
At the end of the single-player campaign when you fight the underwater elder dragon (Ceadeus), there is a dragonator in the venue.
Also, when you are fighting Jhen Morhan online, there is a dragonator at the front of the ship.
What should adding the drills do, anyway? They will only be able to be added onto iron beams. Here is my ideas:
1. Causes damage to mobs outside of the drill (1 block away, deals 5 hearts of damage to mobs 1 block from the drill on either side)
2. Increases durability.
3. Causes it to shoot out father (?)
4. Decreases reload time, but requires the drill to spin up for 2-3 seconds before use.

MH3 has 2 I think. Theres one that's in the last part of the map when you fight Seadeus... I don't remember his name, havn't played in a looooong time, but he's the last offline monster you fight. The ither is when you fight Jhen Mohran, which is the urgent quest for getting to high rank in the online mode. On thatone you can use it twice, one where you ram it down his throat when he tries to eat your sandship, and the other when you ram it INTO his throat when he tries to belly flop on your ship.
When Capcom releases MHFO for the 360, I will sooooooo get it. :biggrin.gif:

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d107/ ... nap057.jpg - You can see the firing controls right between the 2 cannons. You have to hit it with a pickaxe (although in MC, it'd be just like a button) for it to fire.

Dragonator is a "melee cannon", requires coal as ammo, and takes about a minute to cool down. Plus it is costy as hell.

So right now, even if someone made it, it would be useless.
But on the supposition that there are giant sized monsters available (other than dragons) this would prove very useful.
But right now, its just an over kill to all the monsters available.
Oh, also, to come: Able to make spinning drills.
