Tried of updates being forced on you? Well, this launcher gives you the option of updating Minecraft when you want to! If an update is available, you have the option to update normally or continue playing without the update.
Optional update screen
Instructions
Exactly the same as http://minecraft.net/download.jsp.
To be safe, you should also make a backup of your .minecraft/bin folder before running the launcher.
Downloads (These files are only launchers, they are not the full game.)
For testing purposes, you can download this version file and place it in your .minecraft/bin folder. This will make the launcher think there's an update available.
Heh, nice. I released a similar tool, except mine is a python script that checks if the game has updated before running the launcher, and if it has, it backs up your bin folder. A launcher that lets you choose however, is much, much nicer.

Oh! I never noticed your script; great job!

Thank you so much. i was so pissed when Minecraft turned to beta and i couldn't use half of my old mods.
Same here. I was actually just blocking minecraft.net which doesn't work too well if you want to join servers.
I found a decent launcher which includes both this and a nice world/installation backup manager. Sadly, I can't post a link to it, as it also permits playing without paying (I've paid though). I've decompiled the Java version of it, and I'll upload it somewhere once I figure out how to disable whatever code enables you to play without having a paid account.
Does this still login (for SMP purposes) in case you skip an update? That would be very useful, since it is annoying when an update breaks playing on the private server I play on. Especially since it uses hMod and thus won't be updated until that is updated.
Yes, everything should continue to work as normal.
Finally I found it again! I had this on my laptop but then it crashed and I had to format it... after that I couldn't find this... until now... I LOVE YOU!
Thanks for this. Now my mods will stay unbroken and I won't have to play in "offline mode".
If only Notch kept his promise and did this like he said he would...
Hmm. I'm still using 1.1_02. Made the backup of my /bin folder, ran this and it acted like "update? There was an update? I wasn't informed. Oh well. You didn't want to update anyway, right? Right."
Love it. I can't thank you enough. You've saved me alot of stress.
sick mod
thx
got 1 problem: i cant use my mousewheel with this launcher
i also tried the normal launcher and there it worked
any help please?
Do you mean the mouse wheel doesn't work in the game or the launcher? Also, what OS are you using?
im using the windows version if u mean that^^
the mouse wheel doesnt work in game but only with this launcher
i also tried to delete it and download it again but still didnt work:(
Hmmm. No idea what's causing that. Do you have any mods installed? Is so, please try running a copy of Minecraft without mods and see if you still have the same problem.
Edit:

It keeps crashing. Just stops working and says not responding. Wait a while and it disapears.
When does this happen? Can you get to the login screen?
