I had a few ideas that would expand SSP and SMP (would allow a more strategic approach to PvP), not sure if they've already popped up on the boards but here goes anyways.
Greatsword
Recipe (Iron Greatsword for example)

Any feedback would be great, and if anyone does decide to make a mod using these ideas, I'm not expecting any sort of credit. I hope someone can make use of this idea for enriching the communities Minecraft experience.
Well, the weapons I had in mind were to be more balanced for SMP as well. I figured since the Beta is around the corner and damage restrictions were going to be dropped, that weapons (magic staves) may need some balancing in comparison to some of the older mods if they were going to be implemented in SMP PvP. I'm also not a big fan of the arrows mod in a PvP scenario, whilst some of the weapons (bombs for example) would reduce the range of the explosive arrow and present a more balanced scenario for the weapon. I've also seen ideas for shields here before, but a shield in SMP PvP would allow a much more presentable strategy vs bow spam, which you know is going to be an issue. Overall, all I've done is present an idea for the oncoming PvP matches that will ensue, whilst the weapons will still be presentable in a SSP.
what i think is that there should only be 2 kinds of staffs. iron and wood.
iron is a combat staff. increased durrability and does more damage then the wooden staff. it is slightly slower then a wooden one but still faster then a sword. it has increased knockback and range. same as the wooden one
a wooden one is just a plain old stick you picked up off the ground. it has increased knockback and range but isn't as durrable as the iron staff. breaking like normal wooden swords. (im not saying a wooden staff should just be a stick. it needs to be crafted)
iron staffs may not be enchanted. wooden ones can be. staffs may only have 1 enchantment.
Fire Staff. made by using netherack and redstone. chance to set target on fire
Water Staff. made by enchanting with water bucket. deals water damage. nothing special but it does more damage to a spider
Time Staff. made by enchanting with a watch. this is a useful little weapon. it resets a creepers blow up sequence.
Nature staff. made by enchanting with seeds? you may right click a friendly animal and it will help you in fights. but it won't follow you.
Sun Staff. Made By Enchanting with lightstone.Does more damage in daylight
Night Staff. Made By Enchanting with obsidian. does more damage at night time
all enchanted staffs have the same properties as a regular wooden staff + they have the durability of a stone sword.
im not sure if the staffs are good. maybe normal wooden ones should have the durrability of stone sword while enchanted ones have durrability of a iron sword.
