Zuriki's Multiplayer Survival Server (FUTURE REFERENCE ONLY)

Postby Zuriki » Mon Feb 08, 2010 6:21 pm

I plan on hosting a server which would be for those who wish to play a sustained game, it would require people to be dedicated. I'd have a capacity of approximately 60 members to start with (16 allowed on at any one point). Each member would also have a "locker" which is a single chest locked in adminium, it would allow them to save their inventory at the time of logging off and fetch at the time of logging on - it would be run by me or another OP.

The map would have events - some public some secret - for example. The map would be constructed in a specific way with periodical events planned to occur when specific criteria are met and/or a certain amount of time has passed. For example, there may be an open cave which leads into area full of minerals and perhaps a large stream of diamonds - but the sacrifice is that the area is extremely volatile, perhaps an earthquake, volcano or sinkhole hot-spot.

So the benefit is a rich town but the pay-off is that everything could become lost to an earthquake.

To enable a persistent game-world, I will add things like veins of minerals rising from world's core and forests being planted etc.

I may even simulate seasons, or disasters like drought, flooding and forest fire.

I need to know a few things:
1. Interest in this server
2. Suggestions for possible special events or feedback on events listed
3. Feedback on the persistent inventory system

If you would like to reserve a place when the server is launched, I need this information:
1. In-game Name
2. Estimated session length per session (hours)
3. Estimated number of sessions per week
4. A summary of your play-style (3-4 sentences)

Copy and Paste this for an application:
Code: Select all
RE: APPLICATION FOR RESERVED POSITION
IGN: <in-game name>
ESL: <length of session>
ETS: <sessions per week>
SUM: <summary 3-4 lines>

To those who which to emulate this server, you may do so and I cannot stop you, however: I would prefer you delay as such to allow me to test this system more extensively under a larger load. It benefits you in the future if you choose to comply.

Very cool Zuriki.
I liked your last server, and I am sure I will like this one too.

1. In-game Name: ShadowDusk
2. Estimated session length per session (hours): 2-3 week days 4-5 weekend
3. Estimated number of sessions per week one or two a day

I'm a person who stays away from mobs and will use a bow to kill them, I am sneaky if I have to be.
playing alot of Oblivion made my skills with a bow very good, telling how High to aim to hit a target is what im good at. so I guess a sniper

ESL: <length of session> - Like 6 hours, if I enjoy what I'm playing.
ETS: <sessions per week> - A lot.
SUM:<summary 3-4 lines> - I'm a very passive player. I like helping my team more than myself, whether that be giving out resources, to protecting a house. I also enjoy farming. :P

Personally, I think this is a great idea, but seeing as how chests will probably be made public, I don't see how people can't just go into the locker room, and raid anyone's chest.

Maybe you could have an Op/You in there, and you would supervise everytime they would deposit items in there, so everything else has to be stored in your chest, in the outside world.

I'm not daft, I do think of these sorts of things. I'm assuming Adminium will be open for OPs, if it's not readily available I will push for it hard.

You could also make the locker room only accessible to OPs, so the person would have to drop their resources to the Op, and then the Op would have to go into the room and deposit or withdraw it for you. :P

It would be faster to just have the player deposit his/her resources and then the OP double-check that everything is taken out. Anything left in there would be removed and chucked (in order to prevent sly stacking).

Players need to ask an OP for access to their locker though, if you're confused about that.

Well, the chest... I see no point in hiding it somewhere, just place it in your house. You go off and find out someone took stuff? Congrats, you just got robbed while sleeping. I bet the thief would be found, sooner or later cause there's nothing like diamond pickaxe lying on the street... And then, there would be a bank, with pretty black adminium where players can deposit the IMPORTANT stuff. For a fee of course.
I might as well apply, it already sounds awesome (aww the song of the future).

Devast, I want to keep it fair. The off-line storage is limited to a single chest's worth of inventory. If you have other stuff stored in chests in other parts of the map - those are vulnerable whilst you're away.

If we REALLY want a ingame bank, someone from the regulars could make one.
If the ability to create or manipulate enemys, we can make it safe.
And if the bank manager is stealing everything, beat him with a stick!

RE: APPLICATION FOR RESERVED POSITION
IGN: DragoonEnRegalia
ESL: Usually around 2 to 3 hours, but can fluctuate on weekdays (due to excess homework).
ETS: Hopefully one session per day, at least on weekdays, and multiple small sessions or one prolonged session on weekends.
SUM: I'm usually a very architectural-minded person when playing Survival, and I can help significantly with planning and construction of villages/towns/etc. Aside from this, I am very much a jack-o-t: adept with a bow, useful with tools (mining, forestry, farming, digging, etc.), and can set up an efficient scenario (and act as a game master if we're role-playing).

Suggestions: Players should be able to secure a portion of land in a village where they can construct an abode/shelter/house of whatever kind can fit into the allotted space per acre. Here they can AFK when away from the game and/or store chests, set up a subsistence farm, and potentially connect to the underground cavern network. This would allow players to have a more direct way of accessing the mines, though I do wonder if players should be able to operate farms on their territory, or whether farms should be commercialized/congregated a la Stalin-period agricultural systems. We must also eventually whether to use a singular political set-up and ideology for every village (assuming we have multiple villages), or to allow each village to decide those factors.

Best of luck to you, Zuriki.

IGN: Roze, the one and only....
ESL: Whenever on, i play to a high extent, 4-6 hours in average.
ETS: Seems to vary a godly lot. Depending on how much effort i put in, and how much school/work holds me back, I will try hardest to contribute to my greatest, so i shall say 4+.
SUM: Bravo, as people are craving the opportunity it is good that someone smart, to step in and digest the wisdom. Although, being an Aussie, our Timezone is a fault.
Towards strength and weaknesses, I'm fairly average. I will never go into a fight, without some brains behind it, Strategist i am. I always tend to leave that 'Lone-Wolf' appearance behind. When not supporting the team, i would most likley try to help the tribe, with the movement of resources, and other goods.
Finally, i would love to join, and contribute to this community. It would be my Honor.

Will there be one large settlement, or multiple settlements that can be constructed by separate players? I'd like to know.

There will be no predefined settlement. There will be influences to settle in a certain place (resources, ruins, caves, etc) but players won't be forced to settle in any specific place.

Perhaps I will expand in the future and add multiple "countries". Allowing uses to port a chest worth of items to this other country. I'll probably impose restrictions on travelling to other countries, perhaps it might require users to build a port and boat to take people too and from.

Obviously users who are on the boat won't be allowed to continue playing in either world until their journey is over. So servers will have to be periodically updated at set times.

Additionally I'll need to expand my admin base on top of awaiting the tools required to modify maps properly.
