I sleep in one of my rooms on the top level of my castle, which is on a mountain. Haven't had any problems sofar. Also, if it is a bug...you could say...it's a bed bug
My first beds seemed fine and were in a pretty secure place--though there is an opening with a ladder up to it some ways away.
My second attempt was less fun. This time the place is technically very secure, but there are some compromises in the architecture thanks to how much you need to work around with redstone circuits. The "is it safe?" logic maybe didn't realize that nothing could actually get to me. Down some long stairs I also have a mob trap so there's a small opening where a stream sends goods to a pick-up spot--the opening is only one block so, again, not a risk... but maybe the logic isn't smart enough to know that. =/
P.S. Maybe it's a range thing?
My first beds were pretty far off the ground, on the interior side of the wall. No monsters would be able to spawn near it. My second bed was ground level on the interior side of the wall, but monsters could technically spawn just 2 blocks away--on the exterior side.
I've tried seemingly everything now, including removing the door. No windows. No ladders.
I're in a completely sealed box of a house and still getting attacked when trying to sleep by either a spider, a skeleton or a zombie.
Do building materials themselves factor in? It's making me wonder if using dirt might be to blame or if this is simply a bug that needs to be ironed out.
I have also seen this bug and have more to add to it. (note i posted all this on the bug tracker and it was on an un-modded SMP server with just me on at the time. I also use no mods)
So heres what I have noticed. If you use the bed during sunset there is no problem, the night > day change occurs with no problem. If you use the bed at night, totally dark out with mobs spawning, you will end up with one attacking you and the time shift will not happen. I have had this happen in a safe room with different materials used.
If you put a ring around the bed, I made a "wall" of cobble around the bed 1 block high, the mobs will not spawn. However a NEW bug shows up. You will not "sleep" in the bed and you get a message saying that you can only sleep at night (even if its the middle of the night). Using the bed again will give a "bed is occupied" message. If you wait the normal sleep time at time shift will still occur. You can also move around in the world normally during the "sleep" time and will end up warped back at the foot of your bed.
I have not tested this yet but it MIGHT be exploitable in SMP since all players need to sleep at the same time for the time shift to occur. Basically have one player with the "walled" bed use it at night and then go and mine for a bit. Have a 2nd player use a normal bed after some time (assuming only 2 players in a server). This should warp player1 back to the bed and cause the night > day time shift to occur.
If an enemy is nearby and outside he can reach you through the wall but not touch you until you wake up. I think this bug lets one in to you. If one is nearby through a wall he can reach you as you sleep due to some bug.
I'm guessing the issue arises from a bug in which the lighting system is somehow interfered with or disabled when the during the process in which the game resets the current time, hence the monsters spawning. Then again, the fact that some people seem to be experiencing monsters always spawning when they sleep seems to point to a bug which is somehow triggering a monster spawn when a user interacts with the bed. Maybe Notch screwed up inheritance somewhere in the code and bridged the monster spawner class with the beds class?
Regardless, it's safe to say that there's nothing we can do about it, as it is most definitely a bug.

I have noticed an increase in mobs even since the update they have been getting in places... its sketch.
I even put it on peaceful so i could actually make a little progress and it didn't change anything. How does peaceful work when you turn it on do you have to restart the server?? I think I did that <_<
I started a new world. Made a 3x3 room. When I first placed a bed, after using, it respawned me outside of room. Moved it a bit, and rotated, again outside of the room. I could get it to spawn me in the room if I didn't block behing the headboard.

I am pretty sure that the wiki said that if any mob is trying to attack you and ou sleep on a bed, it wont let you. you can only sleep if there are no mobs targeting you. I think it was made like this to prevent you from sleeping to get away from a lot of mobs. Btw, if there are mistakes it is because i'm on my phone.:smile.gif:

Maybe it's proximity to an existing mob. I just had a nighttime visit from a mob on a bed I've slept in many times before, but this time I laid down when night was already well established. Which means more mobs have already spawned. Maybe there's one nearby...
Figured it out with some help. Not sure where the other guy's source is, but it confirmed one of my theories.
If a monster is able to spawn within 2 blocks of the bed, you'll have a midnight visitor. This is true even if there's a wall between the bed and spawnable area.
So.. if this is happening to you, try doubling the width of the wall or maybe putting a torch down on the other side of it. Should probably help.
And remember, monsters spawn anywhere where it is dark. If you have no torches or other source of light in your house, the monsters could be spawning inside.
Well, as of yet I've never had any problems. Although, this might possibly be becasue my bedroom is on the top floor of a building 4 stories tall, on top of a hill, with a balcony surrounding it on the floor below so i'm safe from

Every time I'm inside. Have tried different materials for my house thinking that perhaps that had something to do with it.
Am I missing something or is this possibly a bug?
Thanks!
Gabe.
What is up with this? Something with the coding for the speeding of time?
Edit: Its not every time with me. Its more like 2/3 of the time.
maybe you need doors?

I placed torches on every single available space in the house. Spiders were still able to spawn occasionally, but not zombies or skeletons.
I imagine the fact that every space was occupied may have helped register something. Still odd though, huh?
It doesn't seem a guarantee but as this is my first success I thought it might be worth mentioning.

A. Need a thicker wall
B. Need to move the bed
or
C. Just have a bad bug.
Well, I see you're quite the builder.
