Hello there! This is my awesome and overpowered lightning gun idea (possible graphics coming soon!)
The concept is that it's a gun that you craft. Point it at something, right click, and the lightning will strike where the crosshair is pointed. If you point it in the air, it will relate that position to the ground. The gun cannot fire out of the bounds of the render distance.
So... recipe?
PART 1: BODY COMPONENTS
Barrel: [Lightning is conducted through the barrel]
Conduction Matrix: [Where lightning is created]
Conduction Executor: [Where the lightning is channeled and exacted]
Casing: [Prevents electric shock to the player]
Stock: [fires and holds the rest of the gun together]
(the reason for the wool is because it's easily flammable.. but all the water buckets keep the device cool and prevent it from going on fire)
PART 2: ASSEMBLY
Once you have the parts, you have to put them together.
Recipe for the Lightning Gun:
The lightning gun is held like the bow, except it does not require ammunition. Right click to fire.
PART 3: USE AND SPECIFICATIONS
So, now you have a lightning gun.
"What the hell do I do with it, what does it do, and how do I use it?"
Well... The lightning gun is extremely overpowered.
It has around 5,000 uses, and can shoot quite far.
It's shooting parameters are;
• Accuracy is pinpoint
• Shoots a ball of pure energy (here's a good idea! Use a snowball with the power.png armor file rotating around it at a high speed)
• With far render distance, it can shoot to about halfway through the visible map. The maximum distance is actually 500 blocks.
• If you shoot horizontally into the sky (say from a mountain) the shot will land 500 blocks from where you stand.
• If you shoot at an angle higher than 0° (horizontal) the lightning gun will fire an energy ball as far as it can. The projectile it fires will explode (with all the effects of an explosion, except there will be no physical damage... a bit like tnt in water). The explosion marks where the lightning will strike (vertically). The time taken between the projectile exploding and the lightning striking is about 1 second. If the lightning hits a block near wood, it will create a fire that could spread to become a forest fire. If it hits a creeper it will become energized, just like normal lightning.
• The gun has a cooldown of 5 seconds after a normal shot, and 3 minutes after you have been energized.
• One other thing; if you point it straight up above your head and fire it, a number of things will happen;
° You will get hit by lightning and lose 5 hearts.
° If you have stupidly accidently/impossibly dropped the gun less than a second after you fired, you will get set on fire and walk as slowly on normal ground as you do on soul sand for about 10 seconds.
° If you STILL HAVE the lightning gun (in your inventory OR quickbar), it will act as a kind of awesome energizer. You will get the power.png floating around you, and then you will be able to deal twice as much damage to mobs and have a 50% chance of setting them on fire with your bare hands. You will be able to run twice as fast, and jump two blocks instead of one. This energized state lasts for about a minute.
CONTINUATION: EVERYTHING AFTER THIS POINT IS AN ADDITION, AND IF SOMEONE DECIDES TO MAKE A MOD OUT OF THIS IDEA, THE STUFF BELOW IS NOT NECESSARY.
Right clicking with empty hands (after having been energized) will make the power.png float around any block you hit with your fists. You will be able to break a select few items almost instantly. These few blocks are;
* Iron blocks
* Furnaces
* Obsidian
* Moss Stone
Once you break them, instead of harvesting normal versions, "energized" versions will pop out (this implies 4 new block ids...)
* Electrified Block of Iron
* Energized Furnace
* Electrified Obsidian
* Energized Moss Stone
(electrified and energized are the exact same thing... but it makes more sense to have variety with blocks that actually conduct electricity)
[note; if possible, make the power.png flow around these blocks in the inventory and when placed.]
When you put down an electrified/energized block, it will glow with the light level of a torch.
But wait! That's not all. There are several other uses for these blocks;
RECIPES:
Where = Energized Furnace
= Electrified Block of Iron
= Electrified Obsidian
= Energized Moss Stone
= Redstone
All blocks that are crafted with energized blocks will glow with the brightness of a glowstone block.
Grass Spreader [when put down on dirt, will cause grass to grow in a 10 block radius.]
The grass spreader has a 5% chance to spawn a yellow flower on a grass/dirt block in its radius. It has a 3% chance of red rose, 2% of brown mushroom, and 1.5% chance of red mushroom.
Electrocution Furnace [uses iron ingots as fuel - iron ingots last as long as a piece of coal does in a regular furnace]
Electrifies items at the same rate furnaces smelt items.
Putting a redstone torch in an Electrocution Furnace produces a redstone torch that is almost identical to the normal one, except it has a slight blue tint and a light level equal to a normal torch. When used as an inverter, it resets circuits, but makes it so redstone currents coming from it will keep going for 30 blocks instead of the regular 15.
Putting a block of TNT into an EF (electrocution furnace) will cause it to produce a block of ETNT (electrified TNT) with blue dynamite sticks, and a blast radius twice that of normal TNT. It will destroy all blocks except for iron ore and obsidian. Covering a piece of obsidian with ETNT (in a plus shape in both axes) will cause it to explode and drop a piece of obsidian.
Putting a block of cobblestone into the EF will create a block of normal stone... but this will take twice as long as other operations (if that's possible to do??).
Putting a lava bucket in the EF will make an electrified lava bucket (iron bucket looks blueish) that lasts 1.5 as long as a normal lava bucket in a normal furnace, and will not waste fuel when it is not in use to smelt items.
Putting an arrow in the EF will produce an electrified arrow (with a blue tint) that flies 1.5 times as far and hits for 1.5 times as much damage.
Putting a powered minecart in the EF will produce a powered minecart that goes three times as fast, produces blueish particles, and is activated using an iron ingot.
Putting a storage minecart in the EF will produce a storage minecart with twice the storage space (large chest equivalent).
Objects produced in the EF glow with the brightness of a redstone torch.
Iron Conductor [when hit with a lightning bolt, produces a steady redstone current that lasts as long as the rest of the thunderstorm]
Conducts lightning bolts towards the block. any lightning in a 20 block radius has a 80% chance of being conducted to the the iron conductor, and not doing any damage at all.
Portal Conduction Center
Stage 1 [Conduction Module]:
Then = Conduction Module
Recipe for "Portal Conduction Center"
Creates an item which, when right clicked, transports you immediately from the Nether to the overworld or vice versa. Works like a holdable torch as well! (glows as bright as a torch without need to have it placed)
So basically, that's all the tiers I can think up right now. Hope you guys like it!
I understand this will probably be a mammoth task for any modder, but given enough time, I bet it could be done. :smile.gif:
I like this idea alot. I am an up-and-coming programmer, and I would be willing to take on this task. I know for sure that I could make the gun/crafting recipe in under an hour, while the actual effect might, for now, just end up being some sort of explosion. As I said, I am very new to programming (i have had some java experience before, and have never actually made a mod on minecraft as of yet), so it might not be all that fancy.
If any modder has an idea on how to do the calldown lightning thing, I would appreciate it if you pointed it out ( i am assuming it is somewhere in teh coding for weather in 1.5, but I can't check because MCP hasn't updated yet.)
i am bumping this post up, as well as saying that I am currently working on building you this mod.
I have already created the lightning gun, though right now it does nothing.
I have only been at it for a while, but I hope to have a working gun (at least) fairly soon.
