Here is the trick im going to try and here is the reason why. A lot of windows xp user's are having the "Internet Connection" problem when hosting their server's, as soon as someone connects their internet completely crashes for that user (in my case im on a network so all the other comps are fine, but just mine on this computer's internet crashes).
Basicaly i have VMWare (virtual computer program) installed and am installing windows 7 ultimate as a virtual machine. If all goes well i will host my server on the virtual windows and the internet wont crash, so we shall see if it works and i will repost the upcoming answer within the next 30 minutes :smile.gif:
Step 1: get VMWare Station (has a free 60 day trial for those of you who dont know how to get it :wink.gif: )
Step 2: once installed, set up a virtual machine with anything other then win xp
Step 3: drag and drop your minecraft server over to the virtual windows desktop
Step 4: Make sure your ports are open and run your server!
if you have any problem's with the whole running your server and it says your ports aren't opened or you may have another server open or ports in use, try turning off your virtual windows and change the internet settings to obtain its own unique IP from your router (basicaly as if its a totally different computer , it gets its own ip on your network), set up that ip for port forwarding (unless your router is as simple as you choose just the port to open/forward and doesn't go by specific ip like mine does)
And there you have it. a TEMP fix until Notch gets back to fix all these lil problems :smile.gif: but just a 4-warning, only do this if you have at least 2 core processor and up AND atleast 3gb of ram, maybe 2gb but thats pushin it close. gotta remember your windows your running also takes ram so if u steal it all with your virtual windows then your gonna be runnin in slow motion. Enjoy the temp fix for those of you who cant get a stand-alone NIC Card!
i wouldnt mind at all! would be more then happy to have it on your topic so people can more easily get their server's up and running! everyone keep in mind that when you install a virtual machine, you must have a windows iso or the real CD that you own to install the corresponding windows :wink.gif:
