Environment: Super high mountains and the Nether AI: Hostile Drop: Harpy Feather, can be used to create Slow Fall potions. Reduce damage from falling! Misc: This vicious and vile creature lives in the highest peaks of mountains and in the ceiling of the Nether. It eats human flesh and delights in torturing it's victim. It will swoop down from it's perch and snatch up an unsuspecting victim and fly as high as it can before dropping its prey. It also gnashes and slashes with it's mouth of sharp teeth and razor sharp claws.
Not a nice encounter.
The Harpy would have relatively low health, and would be easy enough to kill as long as you can get your hands on it. The beast flies quickly and avoids remaining in close range. If it picks you up, you have precious few moments to attack it and either kill it, or force it to drop you early.
Let me know what you think, and if you have any ideas for drops.
New concept for the harpy!
This dummy head would be a craft-able item made of two parts. First the dummy's head is made of a slime ball surrounded by cloth, then combine the head with string and a stick and you get this device. The Harpy Lure!
Harpies can't resist but attacking it, and when they sink their claws into it, the slime ball makes them get stuck. Then they frantically try to fly away, and you just hold on and enjoy the ride.
Hmm... It's good, but does it drop you from a high point in the sky making you loose alot of hearts? and I think it should have a slight red coloring to it.
I think that the idea is great, but I don't really like the graphic.
I would prefer a more humanoid harpy, to be honest. Not necessarily human features, but be about human height and walk like a human. Make it a bit hunched over, to look more bestial.
Just some constructive criticism. Keep up the good work firehazurd!
I'm not super happy with the face, and the texture needs more detail. I am kind of fond of the proportions though.
EDIT: oh, and the head and torso are human sized. The wings could be bigger, but I think they fit the style. The legs are really the only thing that don't match, and I think making them as long as the player's would be odd. Am I off on this one? What do you guys think?
Holy crap this would add a delicious new element to the game! I just hope i'll be able to hear the harpy before it's too late. This would be frightening, maybe even more than the creeper. would they exist in the nether as well?
mabye it should be tamable somehow so it can carry things for you.like chests and workbenches
Harpy's are evil creature, there is no way they should be tamable. Harpy's are always giving every one a hard time. Hell, i think it would be funny if they picked up other mobs just to be a *****.
I think the tail could be longer. Perhaps it would drop its tail, which can be used like a the opposite of a fishing rod. (Instead of pulling things to you, it pulls you to the thing.)
They look a bit like big purple chickens without the bill.
Also maybe they should attack zombies and zombie pigmen just because they resemble the player in size/shape.

Lol, what if when you attacked them during night they find and drop enemy mobs including creepers on you.

I just said they should attack zombies and zombie pigmen. I said nothing about them acting as dropships or bombers.
again a very nice idea but i think it should stay out of the nether because it could easly drop you in a lava lake. as for drops why not a harpy claw witch could be combined with a fishing rod to be turned into a grapling hook?
I'm not so sure having it spawn in the Nether is that great of an idea... I dunno, it just seems like it wouldn't fit there very well.
Perhaps for your sprite, you could give it a small beak? And make the feet more like talons? Aside from that I really like how the proportions and stuff are.
And for a drop I like the idea of either multiple feathers or a big feather that could create a glider of some sort.

Neat, But I'd give the model narrower legs and feet with claws, sorta like the chicken. And a narrower head, maybe by two texture-pixels. Overall though, it looks pretty cool. I take it you got inspiration from the fairy mod?

I didn't get direct inspiration from kodiach's fairy, I had already considered the mechanic of a mob that picked you up and dropped you. His post did make it fresh in my mind though.

Wouldn't a human face be more appropriate? (and creepy...)
I was thinking that since harpies are smart/devious demon things they should have have a very strategic attack pattern. rather than "i move towards you until you kill me with you sword because i can't reach you"

Lava lakes plus harpies could be a *****, unless you have a grappling hook!

Anyways, I'm not really fond of the graphics either, but I can't complain, I can't do much better
I will be using them soon
I'm Starting to be known as a Balancer, A.K.A. I'm starting to become pessimist

As for the nether? Well harpies are demons...
The caveman's secret weapon
