so,if there is a museum,we would like to add statuarys/pictures in.
how to get:Marble(ore) will appear in the underground.Mine it will give you 1~2 marbles(item) to get Marbe(carvable) you need 2 marbles(item) like this:
[iron]
[iron]
[iron] =marble
how to do:there will be a window, you can dig on the marble in the window, and press Enter to done.(1 pixel=1 smallest hole)
if 1x1x2 is not enough, you can craft 2x2x3,just like this:
I do think marble would be a good material, for building fancy buildings if nothing else, marble shouldn't be an ore. Marble is a distinct type of rock, and should simply be a type of rock that you can find and mine. It will probably require higher-level tools to harvest than stone.
As for the carving, some method of creating statues could be interesting, but I'm not sure how to create a good interface for it.
You would have to invent an entirely new java physics engine with real time model alteration.
Which is retarded.
You can't 'carve' blocks.
It is definitely doable. The problem is creating an interface for creating the shape. Real-time sculpting by hitting it with a pickaxe, or something similar, would be extremely difficult though.
Yes, and it would be nice if this had a mining time comparable to obsidian. We need a strong decorative mineral which isn't as dark as obsidian, as this often makes a citadel made out of it look "evil".
I'm surprised I haven't seen Marble suggested more often. I'd love to see a statue interface (Pillars yo) but that would likely be very hard to add. No matter what we need more types of stone, and marble would be an excellent addition.
You know that statues can be chipped out of most types of stone, right? So we wouldn't need another material to make them. I like the idea of statues, I do not like the idea of more types of stone.
Lol @ mining marble giving you actual marbles in return.
i like the idea of adding a high grade white block. as for statues, why not just crafting them. but in 9 marble blocks and you get a statue. you blace it on the ground and a solid statue appears. there would be 4 or 5 presets and it would be random based on the room available, just like paintings.

Random statues, working like paintings, would be ok.
No, I don't mean it would be hard to conceptualize, because it's not.
It would be nearly impossible to code.
There's a reason why only a few video games out there have anything CLOSE to dynamic environment destruction. The best one so far is Red Faction Guerrilla, and that's it's selling point, the spent nearly a decade developing that physics engine.
And you think Notch can do it with java? And still keep the game small and lite?
I think you are overestimating what such a "sculpting" interface would be like in Minecraft. In all likelihood it would be something as simple as dividing a block into a 4x4x4 collection of sub-blocks, enabling you to create a custom block to be one piece of a larger sculpture. -That- is essentially what the game already does.
You'd just have to save marble blocks with 64 bits of binary data to determine whether or not each individual sections of the block are "on." Essentially an extremely watered-down version of what the building editor in Sim City 3000 did before the year 2000.
Personally, I don't see why this should be added to the game. However, it is not nearly so impossible as you seem to think it is.
1) Mine marble
2) Smelt iron
3) Re-Smelt iron and Marble together
4) ?????
5) PROFIT!
A marble block, maybe similar to iron, but with veins and things could be cool. I would reserve white ore for chalk ore something else, and have marble look like what it will do when placed, or more rough than normal. (marble hewn buildings :biggrin.gif: )
Randomised statues would be the best way to go. 2 blocks on top of each other for a 1x1x1 or 1x1x2 statue, or 3 blocks on top for a 1x1x3 statue. Marble stairs would be fun as well.
Marble could also be used as a flux, but that would require better smelting (an alchemist smelter?), more invented uses for the steel, and an obvious distinction between steel and iron.
A marble pillar block would be epic though. A simple Roman column (square, of course) that dynamically adjusts itself so that it's vertical ends are always square, and the middle is always round. It could be made easily with the marble arranged in a I formation, similar to the ladder, but on it's side.

Notch nearly rage-quit when he tried to make half blocks.
But asking like it's something he should 'let you do' is laughably ignorant.
Excuse me while I go hack a computer with my gameboy from across the room. I'm going to upload a super trojan worm.

Notch had problems with half-blocks because they had to have strange interactions with the players in such a way that they raise the player one half meter when colliding with a half block, but only if the top of the half block was exactly one half meter below the current stepping position of the player. Sculptures would likely simply have the collision model of a full block. You are confusing apples with oranges.
I would much rather have the ability to paint paintings with an ingame paint interface. Now THAT would be cool
Those are my thoughts exactly. It's not something that needs to be made a priority to be put in the game. I was simply pointing out that it would not be nearly as hard to make as you seemed to think it is.
The blocks themselves would be easier to code than half-step blocks. Most of the work would be in creating a way for the player to modify the data that controls which sections of the marble slab are "on" and "off," i.e. creating a "chiseling" interface.

lavalove!Although I agree with your ninja post just then.
Dyes and stuff are defiantly coming someday, as it's on his verylongoverdueneedsaupdatenow list. (secret friday update?)
