I can assume in your underground escapades you have unearthed many chunks of flint(dropped by gravel blocks) You may have been bothered that you have a stash gathered up but no use for them other than "Flint and Steel", however I have a suggestion that may make flint somewhat more useful.

""Explosive" properties
It is important to note that while flints may be used as above in fire-lighting, they should never be used in the construction of camp-fire hearths, or otherwise be exposed to heating by fire - as they can "explode" when hot.
This is not a true explosion as there is no increase in volume, but is caused by the stone fracturing as parts of it more exposed to the heat expand quicker than others, causing it to split when the tensile strength of the stone is exceeded. This split releases energy which can make stone chips fly off at considerable speeds. These chips can have very sharp edges."
Though only shrapnel is released, using this type of explosion in the same fashion that TNT is formed would make flint able to be used for its explosive properties.
TL;DR
Flint is craftable with sand to also create TNT or crafted to create gunpowder
As it is not a true explosion, I don't see how this could possibly b used with TNT. Perhaps make a semi-TNT like explosion that does not damage terrain but does damage players and monsters, but not an actual explosion.
A big NO for you. I'm sorry, but flint is hard to get and is very useful for arrows. And still I never seem to find flint for my arrows. Where should I get all that flint? I know exactly what you should do with your *coughs* piles of flint: M A K E A T R I L L I O N A R R O W S F O R K I L L I N G T H O S E

Interesting idea. How about replacing the sand in the TNT recipe with flint. The resulting item would explode like TNT, but would not damage blocks and would have an increased range.

Though I can't say no to more explosions.
Flint arrowheads would also be nice.

Flint has more uses.
Arrows are already crafted with flint on the tip. Just scroll down on this page if you don't belive me. http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Arrow#Arrows
And I'd have done that if it was 2 years old. This is just NO!
