Wouldn't it be nice to use your extra diamond/iron/gold ore to make fancy minecarts and chests? It should be easy enough to put in the game, right? You just change a few colors and add some extra recipes. It's not really needed, but it would be neat.
Yeah, this has been suggested in a lot of different ways, basically the concept of making better-looking items by substituting materials. It comes up a lot for chests especially (in basic form, anyway), because people want to have stone, gold and diamond chests as well. Haven't heard any suggestions for fancy minecarts though, that would be kind of cool to see.
Adding gems or gold lining to all kinds of furniture would be a cool way to use some throwaway stuff and add a little more personalization to the game. Might also be a good starting reason to add more gemstones into the mix underground. Good suggestion.
I'd like a stone chest, encrusted with diamonds. Like DF. This is a good idea kawaiidesubakachan. It'd be cool to do that with stuff like doors too.
I don't like your post, I don't like this suggestion and I don't like the OPs username.
First off, I can make plenty of bad bling jokes about this.
Second, I'd really like to see Minecraft achieve a substantially unique identity from DF. There's far too many people who seem to want Minecraft to be 3D Adventure Dwarf Fortress. And it really annoys me. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE DF, but it is its own thing, and it is constantly growing to achieve its goals. Minecraft should do the same, and not try to emulate someone else's work.
Third, for this to work all objects that can be customized would need to have several models, one for every material/decoration combination possible. Which is stupid redundant.
Fourth... "kawaiidesubakachan"? Are you serious? This had better be a sarcastic alias.

This may be a fad, but I love dragons, so why the heck not?
I embed my chests in the ground so I can't see it anyway. But anywhoo, other chests would be good, because I'd like some taller ones that you can have as shelves or cupboards.
I like to see more homely things that you can put in a house to make it more realistic. I'm using tree logs as tables and putting steps next to it to look like chairs. My sofas are cloth with steps as seats, and coffee table is a crafting table.
Also, if cows eventually come out, their leather hide could be used with timber to make bookshelves (ie leather bound books). That'll be homely and awesome.

While I agree that Minecraft should not try to imitate Dwarf Fortress, I also believe that shunning something just because it's in another game is an all-around bad idea.

Not necessarily. A texture can be comprised of many separate textures put together. That aside, I don't think we need to get into the whole encrusting thing with gems and what-not either. I'd be more than happy with simple stone, gold, and diamond chests.
