I notice everyone is paranoid over getting robbed.
Here is a way to make stealing much harder, without the problems of building walls out of locked chests and whatnot.
Chest golems.
Picture a big turtle, but with a chest for a shell.
They wander like a pig normally (but very slowly).
Harmless when not provoked. When right clicked, you must enter a 2 digit password. If you get the password wrong, it attacks. It does this for like a minute, until it calms down, and you can try again.
VERY high health. When killed, drops everything it was holding.
Attacks by launching something or other, like a skeleton does. Maybe fireballs?
I don't see any real way of exploiting a system like this.
I approve of this idea, as long as I can ride them around! :biggrin.gif:
I think, however, instead of a password, they should just detect if your the owner. BUT, if we must be using passwords, I'd recommend a 4 digit one, rather than 2 digits. (Was that a typo? :laugh.gif: )
Also, if you gain access, you should be able to choose whether or not they roam about. I don't want my items half way across the map when I come back from mining!... Of course, if you choose to ride them about, like I surely will, roaming about is not always a bad thing.

The most common response I hear to the question "Why haven't you bought Minecraft yet?!?!" is "I don't care that much." To which I usually reply with a firm, "I'm about to stab you."
Oh, also, (Sorry for replying twice!) they should have the creator of the golem's name hover above it as the cursor is put over it, so we can tell which ones ours.

FUN! Would like to see them have other uses as well. Oh and Exlo, there's an edit button in the top right for the future. Hopefully no one gets all mad about your double posting. It's a good idea and NOT some useless bump/spam.
Sounds like a good idea and chestless ones might be good for security. However, where would they wander? I wouldn't want my golems with my good stuff to walk out of my fort into the hands of any hostile mobs or random guys outside.
As far as wandering goes, it was to keep people from walling them somehow into a huge death wall that launches fire at you if you hit it. How about they cannot jump, and would therefore be easy to contain with a ring of stone or sand or something. I was thinking like the same behavior pigs have. Maybe it would use the same ai creepers do? (minus the exploding and danger. You could go into your golem cellar, and they'd all come up to you. That way they could sort of follow you to new areas. (albeit very slowly)
Speed would be like 1/4 what pigs do.
I'm starting to like this !? guy. Yeah, codes aren't fun, and sortof break immersiveness. I've gotten so used to it as a suggestion that I'd forgotten. Welcome to the forums, !?pi
A perhaps more straightforward way to have this work is to have a chest mob look like a chest, and be passive until you try to open it. Someone trying to open you is always going to make you grouchy.
Then how would you suggest preventing entry to the general public but also having easy transferal of access? The only other options I see to meet those criteria are keys (with codes, I guess), an in-game "friend list," or some sort of more arcane code with something like colors.
Also, a wise Minecrafter keeps a sword at his side at all times.

I would suggest not being able to store items in a monster chest at all. It'd just be a decoy, and a trap. The trick lies in not knowing the combination, but knowing which chest is the Safe chest.
I suggested something like this sans the chest inside, as a guard Golem, basically putting a flag on the Chest means it watches it, has High Health and such, but the materials required to make it are time consuming, but worth it. If someone right clicks the chest, they must answer 1 of 3 questions you chose (Like those website password redeemer things. Maybe drop down menu questions and answer list) That is for people against Codes. This way anyone who steps on something or activates a certain item, the Golem comes to (usually wandering an only hostile if provoked or you answer wrong). Like have a Bridge Guarded by a Golem and such.
I do however take this thread and think mountable chests (maybe 1/3 the space of normal chests, and half the speed increase as normal mounts if added) would be a fun idea.
i think the way you described it would look like this crature viewtopic.php?f=1&t=99043
orthe luggage form terry pratchett's books.
but i imagine somthing like the golem form viewtopic.php?f=1&t=99153.
but insted of the green rock in the picture it has the chest.
but i was thinking about giving golem options.
billd the golem then add the chest or other part.
neutral guard golem, add a block of dimond to middle will guard land from mobs, and heal self.
trap golems add red dust to middle, will stand in room add red stone wire to them when wire is triped it will attack on sight then return to guarding.
chest golem add chest will protect chest from other peaple.
empty you could use them as decoration.

Fits in with the whole enchanting thing.

It's like a blend of Red Faction: Guerilla, Minecraft and Star Wars. Oh. And it's an MMO.
