How about you use a bud switch on the chest that activates a lava flood?

Sorry, I didn't check that comment properly, my reason for explaining my trap wasn't to brag but to explain what an effective trap requires; stealth.

Sorry but this is a pretty flawed trap, firstly a pressure plate in front of a chest is one of the most suspicious sights in Minecraft so the chances of people walking on to it are slim, secondly you can open the chest from one block away and you don't even have to risk setting a trap off. I created a trap before that used a pressure plate hidden by a lack of light and a step in a slowly deepening tunnel that caused the walls to quickly close and open so that a player couldn't escape or mine their way out. Lava would then fall from the ceiling and after it had killed its victim would be removed by more pistons meaning that it was as invisible as before. One other thing, why is it a griefer trap? this looks like it is intended to be used against raiders, from personal experience a griefer would just poor lava on top of your house and run off.
