I'm truly amazed by this but I've one thing to ask, are you going to release your tool to generate the map-image for it? I'm currently playing on a 256 height map and would love a renderer that can handle it, sadly there are no released tools that can do it (at least what I've found).

May I ask you what you wrote it in? I'm not a shady programmer myself, (I have not yet taken time to understand the whole save format for MC though.) If you want and do not mind you could release is as "use it on your own risk"-code and anyone that understands any of it could still use it.
