Baconboy and horaholic are correct, I just tested this now. Falling 24 blocks kills them, but after falling 23 blocks they still require two hits to kill (with bare hands). Simple solution, use a sword (even wood will do it).
I really don't have any expectation form darkroom grinders anymore, that's my point. They worked like a charm at some point of the development, but like I said they have taken big hits. A couple of excamples?
At some point perhaps around beta 1.6 -ish the darkroom spawners began experience problems when after a given amount of time mob spawns degreased dramatically and eventually stopped altogether. Reason was/is apparently mobs spawning near the maximum spawning distance and then wondering off the limit, not despawning but building up the spawn cap. The newest hit is this mob AI tweak that just causes them to stand still when player isn't around.
Thank you for doing that. I never doubted they had armor, although your editing that information in your post certainly implies that becuase you were commenting my post there.
But I mean thank you, because who ever that person was who doubted that fact, propably finds the information very helpful.
Well, it was a spawner grinder rather than a plain darkness grinder so that probably means my argument is irrelevant. So, I suppose that darkness grinders really are gimped badly. But, I'm not all too hurt by that.

I do believe in version 1.0, CaptainSparklez built a pretty dang efficient Skeleton XP grinder that results in almost a handful of levels per go. If his grinder's output is too low for you, you have some seriously high expectations.

Zombies have natural "armor" points. It's in the code. Shall I dig it up for you?

Oh gods, don't encourage that - I have enough problems cleaning up inaccuracies on the wiki as it is. If you are certain and conduct video testing, THEN edit and cite.
Zombies have an armor value, it applies as a percentage of damage reduction - roughly the same % as a player wearing leather armor - and it's sure possible to get one hit killed in leather. You just need to take damage that is over your total life by the same percent that you have as damage reduction in one hit. Same for zombies and falls.
Specifically -They get one punch killed when they jump right before falling. I suppose you could emulate it with a fence post or half slab though, and just have the jumpers die. Damage is calculated by half squares, that's what makes jumping zombs a bit weaker.
TheCakeisAlive, that would be impossible, since armor does not prevent enviromental damage. The only way would be to use some kind of tool to attack.

Over 90 % of the human population is stupid (in my honest opinion). Don't expect too much from them when you post something that actually involves thought.

Player armor ignores environmental damage. The coding is different for zombies - It seems to be more of an overall flat % reduction, and it bottoms out at a minimum of 1/2 heart damage - else punching wouldn't kill them at all.
But I welcome a testing video that proves me wrong! It expands all our know how, and solves all reasonable arguments :smile.gif:

every now and then a thread comes along and surprises you. I had no idea about this detail on zombies
I had heard this enough that I assumed it was true, but nice to see the actual code for verification.
I'm curious to know how long they have had an armor value. Was it only recently or has it been like this a long time and we are only now realizing it because of xp farms?
Seems like if you had a dispenser that shot each zombie before the drop, the armor would be removed.
I think gthe basic reason for no 1-hit kills, is that it's either too much or too little of a fall. try it with 22 blocks with half blocks on top. Not sure if this will work, but have a go

Well sorry to say but both of you guys are wrong, I think it is because of the armor. Test it out for yourself, you cant get a one hit kill with 22, 23, or 23 1/2. I will love for someone to prove me wrong but I need visual proof or a layout of what to do.
Guys, I think we can all admit that horaholic is the smartest person here, it's not like you see little kids going up to Stephen Hawkings and disputing his theories on astronomy.
I know there were no beacons when this topic was started, but using strenght beacon allows 1-hit kill zombies and makes it easier to kill zombies and skeletons with armor.
I have tested it on myself with no armor on at all jumping 22 block leaves you with 1/20 health left or how you guys say half a heart left. If you guys try to prove me wrong test it on yourselves then!

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
