Piston pushes rail problem

I want to create a system where I can stop my minecart when I want.

I tried using a piston on the side of the railway, accompanied by a button.
When I push the button, the piston pushes the rail out of my track. I don't want this to happen.
I want the piston to push out just so it could stop me in my minecart in its tracks, but letting the rail piece stay where it was.

Any ideas on how to do this?

If you use a sticky piston, the rail will return to the track when the piston retracts.
Also note that un-powered "powered rails" stop carts also. This would likely be more compact anyway.

use an unpowered powered rail and a button on the side, once you stop you can leave the track or simply press the button to continue the ride :D
