This mod was developed as a little side project of mine. I had seen previous Meteor mods before with some of the features I have here, but they have all been discontinued or missing. After many hours of coding I have completed my goal and come out with an awesome mod. This mod includes many excellent features that make it stand out from the rest of the old Meteor mods. The features of this mod are listed below.
Features:
Meteors Fall to the ground and explode, forming craters that house various minerals from space.
New Tools that give different properties: Magnetization, slowing enemies, burning enemies, mining underwater faster, etc.
New Armor Sets that give you different abilities: Magnetization, walking on water, immunity to fire, etc.
Mine all the minerals from the craters as quick as possible because the debris from the crash will cool, giving less minerals
Protect your precious creations with Meteor Shields that can be fully upgraded to protect a huge area of land.
Varying sizes and types of Meteors
Craft Detectors to find out WHERE a meteor is going to land
Craft a Meteor Timer to determine WHEN a meteor is going to land
Summon meteors down onto your friends with Meteor Summoners
Configure the mod to your liking with many configuration options
Fully SMP compatible!
Multilingual!
Here's some screenshots of the mod:
Types of Meteors
Spoiler:
Meteorite
Spoiler:
Meteorite meteors are the most common meteors you will encounter. They crash down to the ground and cool rather rapidly, reducing the amount of Meteor Chips the meteorite ore gives. Meteor chips can be used to craft Meteorite tools, sword, and armor. All the tools and armor have a unique special ability that causes magnetic drops from blocks to come toward when they are on the ground. This is especially great when you have a diamond over some lava and you are afraid you'll lose it if you mine it. Meteorite armor and tools are about the same as diamond, but have less uses than diamond.
Meteor chips also allow you to create Meteor Shields.
Some meteorite ore can be found deep in the ground. This was added so you would be able to create a meteor shield hopefully before any meteor was able to crash onto your home.
Craft a cooled meteor block:
Meteorite Tools are crafted using iron ingots instead of sticks. This gives them their magnetic abilities.
Extreme thanks goes to Firecat1311 for making this awesome Meteorite Armor Textures. More thanks for creating the model and texture for the Alien Creeper mob!
Alien Creepers spawn sometimes when a meteor crashes. They can also rarely be found in Meteorite ore, so be wary when you are mining.
Frezarite
Spoiler:
Frezarite(freeze-uh-right) meteors are the second most common meteors you will find. It is probably the coolest meteor . When they crash onto the ground, they leave snow, ice, and frezarite ore. Be quick when this meteor crashes because the frezarite ore will melt leaving just water.
Frezarite ore drops frezarite crystals (or freza crystals for short). Freza crystals can be used to craft Frezarite armor, tools, sword, ice, and ice cream.
Frezarite armor has a very unique ability that freezes the water beneath as you walk over it. The radius at which the water around you freezes is increased when you are sprinting to help compensate for any lagg you may have in game. This armor is especially great when you just don't feel like crafting a boat to cross that river/ocean. Frezarite armor is fairly weak though so I wouldn't recommend fighting too many battles with it. Many thanks to SLuRsniper24 for the awesome ice armor texture.
All Frezarite tools and sword are crafted just like regular crafting except using frezarite crystals. The effects are fairly self-explanatory in game. The frezarite toolset is meant for you to expand your control with water. The pickaxe, axe, and spade increase your breaking speed underwater. The sword freezes enemies for a short amount of time, enabling you to run away from those blasted creepers with no worry. The hoe will automatically water the land when you hoe it.
There are two flavors of ice cream to choose from: vanilla and chocolate. Chocolate will give just a little bit more to your hunger bar, because...I mean...It's chocolate! You can craft ice cream by putting the ingredients in any shape or form on a crafting table like above.
Kreknorite
Spoiler:
Kreknorite(krek-nor-ite) is the rarest meteor you will encounter. When it crashes, it creates a portal to hell (a.k.a. the nether). It will also bring some of its mob with it so watch out. The blocks it creates is lava and kreknorite ore. When the kreknorite ore cools, it creates obsidian so be very quick or you'll have to clean up a big obsidian mess.
Kreknorite ore drops kreknorite chips(krekno chips for short). Krekno chips are used to craft Kreknorite Armor and a Kreknorite sword. The armor causes you to be completely immune to fire, allowing to dance in fire and swim in lava (great for the nether don't you think). The sword has a unique ability that sets fire to whatever mob you hit with it. Kreknorite is the strongest material you can make items out of in this mod.
Unknown
Spoiler:
This meteor type is a secret. You will know it when you see it.
Kitty Comet
Spoiler:
On a very rare occurence, there will be massive meteor showers that will rain down comet kitties from the who-knows-where. While these comets cause a lot of damage, they also leave the rare comet Kitty behind.
The Comet Kitty is similar to ocelots in that you can tame them and make them your companion. They are fully resistant to fire and are tougher than ocelots, making them amazing when going mining. They won't die in lava and they'll scare the creepers away. You can also breed them with ocelots and of course other comet kitties. They have space helmets from their journey from the sky.
If you wish to force a comet kitty attack, just use the command: /kittyattack. You will have to be op in order for this to happen or have cheats enabled in SSP.
All about the Meteor Shield!
Spoiler:
Meteor Shields are great because they protect your land from a meteor falling down upon it. This is a feature I have never seen before in any previous Meteor mods. Meteor Shield Block and how to craft:
The Meteor Shield takes a moment to charge before it can be used, but you can bypass this by adding another meteorite chip to it. You can do this by right-clicking with a meteorite chip in your hand on to the meteor shield. To make a Meteor Shield more powerful, right-click with a rare Red Meteor Gem in hand to add to the shield's power. This makes the shield cover more land.
Also, if you are wondering what all does one shield protect. Well, that varies depending on how powerful you make your meteor shield. To be sure if your land is protected, use the test torch (shown below).
With the arrival of version 2.9 of the Falling Meteors Mod, Meteor Shields now have a beam of light when fully charged. The color of the beam of light is specific to the color of the meteor that was last blocked by the owner of the shield. So the color of the beam is set per player and NOT per shield. The beam can be turned off by placing a block anywhere above the shield. The shield must be able to see the sky in order for it to release its beam.
Meteor Shield Test Torch and how to craft:
Lit = Land is protected. Unlit = Land is not protected. Simple
Right-click on the torch to get a list of who's meteor shields protect this land as well as update it to see if the land is protected.
All about the Meteor Summoner!
Spoiler:
Throw this summoner like a snowball and wherever it lands is where a meteor will fall. You can get the red meteor gem shown in the center from Meteorite blocks on a rare occasion. If the configuration option to prevent to summoner grief is enabled, then you will not be able to summon a meteor on land protected by someone else.
Specific type Summoners:
You can now craft summoners that only summon specific types of meteors. There is a summoner for every type. The default summoner you craft (seen above) will spawn meteors randomly (meteors that are enabled in the config). These summoners work the same way as the default summoner. Just throw and let there be meteor!

Meteor Detectors
Spoiler:
Proximity Detector
Spoiler:
This meteor detector detects the nearest meteor to fall. This doesn't mean that the meteor it detects will be the next meteor to fall, but it is the closest to you.
Time Detector
Spoiler:
This meteor detector will point you in the direction of the next meteor to fall, but it may not be the closest meteor to fall near you.
Crash Detector
Spoiler:
Possibly the most useful detector. This detector will point you toward the last location in which a meteor crashed onto the surface. However, it will not point you toward the crash sites of summoned meteors. Best tactic I consider for finding meteor crash sites is once you hear the crash, check the detector and start running.
To see the Meteor Timer in use, check out my video on it:
Meteor Timer Block
Spoiler:
The Meteor Timer block is a redstone block that will help you figure out WHEN a meteor is going to fall and NOT WHERE. The Meteor Timer has two modes: Power Mode and Quick Mode. You can change the mode by right-clicking the block.
Power Mode
Power Mode is the default mode for the Meteor Timer. When on this mode, it will put out a redstone signal with strength of the signal based on how close the meteor is to crashing. Know that the farthest the redstone signal will go is 15 blocks from the Meteor Timer.
Quick Mode
Quick Mode puts out a strong redstone signal (equivalent to a redstone torch, lever, or button) just before a meteor is about to crash. This is a simplified version of Power Mode because you don't have to worry about the strength of the signal.
The main difference in the modes is to just adjust by how advanced you want to be. You can setup an array of glowstone lamps that will slowly be lit up as a meteor gets closer and closer. Or, you can just have one glowstone lamp to be powered on when a meteor is just about to fall. You can even setup an alarm with noteblocks or perhaps an alarm from mods from FTB or Tekkit. It's all up to you.
Crafting Recipe:
Configuration
Spoiler:
First off, you can find the configuration file in your .minecraft folder. It is called Meteors.cfg. Open it up with Notepad or Notepad++ if you have it. The configuration file requires you to run Minecraft one time so it can be generated.
Configuration is separated into categories: General, Item, and Block. Let's cover Item and Block first.
Each one of these is simply in case one of the IDs of this mod conflict with another mod.
Now for the General Section:
###########
# General #
###########
general {
"Allow Summoned Meteor Grief"=true
"Meteor Fall Radius"=350
"Meteor Fall Deterrence"=25
"Meteors Only Fall at Night"=true
"Maximum Meteor Size"=3
"Minimum Meteor Size"=1
"Chunk Generation Checks"=4
"Meteor Ore Gen Size"=6
"Kitty Attack Chance"=1
"Shield Radius in Chunks"=5
"Text Crash Notification"=false
"Meteorite Meteor Enabled"=true
"Frezarite Meteor Enabled"=true
"Kreknorite Meteor Enabled"=true
"Unknown Meteor Enabled"=true
}
The first option "Meteors Only Fall at Night" is exactly what it says. Keep this true if you want meteors to only fall at night. Change it to false if you want meteors to be able to fall anytime.
The option "Meteor Fall Radius" is the radius in which a meteor can fall near you in general.
The option "Meteor Fall Deterrence" is what controls the rate in which meteors fall. The lower the number, the faster meteors fall. The higher the number, the slower they fall.
An exact graph on how long a meteor will take to fall based on the Meteor Fall Deterrence rate:
In between the lines is when a meteor could fall.
The option "Allow Summoned Meteor Grief" is how you turn on or off the prevention of griefing with the use of meteor summoners on protected land. If a player throws a meteor summoner on protected land that isn't protected by them, then they won't be able to summon a meteor there.
"Maximum Meteor Size" and "Minimum Meteor Size" are used to set exactly what they mean. Size must be between 1 and 3 (inclusive). Don't try and confuse the program by setting max lower than min or min higher than max. I put precautions in to prevent that.
"Chunk Generation Checks"=4
"Meteor Ore Gen Size"=6
These two options control meteor ore generation. The generation checks are how many times it may or may not apply meteor ore to the chunk it is generating currently. So there could be up to 4 veins of meteor ore in that chunk. The ore generation size is how big the vein could be. Default is up to 6 meteor ore in a vein.
"Kitty Attack Chance"=1
This is the percentage chance that a kitty attack will happen. If you want to disable kitty attacks, just set this to anything less than or equal to 0. If you want to guarantee it happens every time a meteor is about to spawn, set it to 100. Simple.
"Shield Radius in Chunks"=5
This option lets you configure the amount of land a meteor shield covers. The radius will increase the radius by the same amount every time you upgrade the shield. Setting this to 0 makes it to where the shield covers only the chunk it is placed upon and upgrading will do no good. Setting it to anything less than 0 will cause it to not protect land at all.
"Text Crash Notification"=false
This gives you the option of re-enabling the old way of letting you know a meteor has landed. Setting this to true will make a message pop up every time a meteor falls.
"Meteorite Meteor Enabled"=true
"Frezarite Meteor Enabled"=true
"Kreknorite Meteor Enabled"=true
"Unknown Meteor Enabled"=true
This allows you to turn off the ability for these types of meteors to fall naturally or through a random meteor summoner (note: specific type meteor summoners can still spawn these meteors in). If you have all these options set to false, it will still default back to just Meteorite meteors.
If you have anymore questions about the Configuration please ask.
VIDEOS!
Spoiler:
Request your video to be put here in a reply and I'll more than likely add it to this list.
Notes for V2.9+:
Some IDs have been changed to help further compatibility by default. To reset the IDs back to default in your configuration file, just remove all the BLOCK configuration properties and it will be automatically regenerated to the default IDs. Realize that setting these back to default will cause all blocks related to this mod to disappear in your world, which can indirectly clean up all crash sites, but will also remove your meteor shields. So PAY ATTENTION TO THIS. Mod will still work with the older IDs though.
Installation Instructions:
1.As with any mod, be sure to first delete the META-INF folder in the minecraft jar.

good mod but u need better textures
During the development of the mod, I had a guy that made most of the textures for me. Firecat did a great job with the armor and Alien Creeper but I probably need better textures for everything else. I'm willing to see anything if someone wants to make better textures for this mod. All credits will obviously go to whoever made the textures.
lol, its polka-dotted...like the dance. So how do the shield and torch work, and why do they look like modified redstone torches and furnaces? But yeah, seems pretty cool, I'll wait and see how long it takes them to add it to the vanilla game.
My character jumps higher than your character.
Your awareness of your surroundings rivals that of Dora the Explorer.

The shield you just place on the ground and let it charge then it will protect 41 chunks of your land around it. The torch you just place on the ground. If it lights up, that means that block is protected. If it doesn't light up, put a meteor shield down to protect that land fool! lol And yes, I think I've figured out that the textures need help. I'm up for suggestions.
