NOTE: For best results, only use with Optifine 1.1 and turn up the Mipmap level to the MAX (otherwise you'll get nasty moire effects at a distance). The grids in this pack demand filtering distant textures.
At a distance, everything looks basically just like the default textures, but when you get closer, each block has 16x the detail!
Though there is no true bump-mapping going on, the visual effect is a lot like millions of little bathroom/pool tiles with gentle 3D edges. Reminds me a bit of Voxatron...
I know stuff like this has been done before, I found most other attempts too harsh, where edges were all I could see. I wanted something more subtle, that really shined closeup, making it more enjoyable on my huge monitor (where 16px textures just look too big and flat), while maintaining the retro-digital-lowres feel of minecraft. This is literally cloned from the default textures - the artwork is identically, just hyper detailed.
FWIW, I've actually tried this technique on other texture packs (works best with 16px, but I liked it with 32px Dokucraft too...) and it really helps add depth and detail while maintaining the blocky quality...
No offence, but all I see is worse lava and default textures with grey lines on them. :/
Good job though! I couldn't even make a texture pack. (Well, I could, I'm just too lazy)
You've NEVER used optifine have you? :/
Well the reason why it looks uglier is because there is a setting on it to make lava uglier and in exchange, less lag. It's also set to be ugly on default. Goodjob! In my opinion I think it makes it look like a digital world.

Not sure why it would be worse - it's the default MC lava....
And yes, it's not a completely new design, but it's more than just lines, I promise - the effect is more pronounced in-game. I know plenty of players who still prefer the default textures (that's what feels the most familiar - it's how they started - they easily recognize all the blocks and items).
This simply adds some more detail and depth to improve the experience (and make it a little more "digitized") when viewing on a high-res monitor...
If you're seeing really strange stuff when you switch to my pack, do you have Optifine installed? Or some kind of HD patch to allow you to use 256px textures?

I've only tackled the terrain and items textures so far - more to come!
Here's a few screengrabs - or just browse the imgur album)

Do you not know how to install texture packs at all? Or is just this one giving you trouble?

EDIT: The texture pack seems made for a mac, just put the folders and files in the right spots in the zip and it should work
:blink.gif: whoops... I accidentally nested the pack folder - FIXED! (download link has been updated)
