Updated (v04): February 5, 2012

Please read this entire post before attempting an install. IF YOU ARE HAVING ISSUES, please post your system specs, and please don't post until you've read all of this thread and all about daxnitro's mod that this mod is based on on his wiki here, and in the original mod's thread here.

If you have issues with getting this mod to work, make sure you have read this entire post and performed the installation directions correctly. Then refer to the thread of the mod that this mod is based on that I posted a link to above. Also make sure to read daxnitro's wiki. Only post questions if you've done all of these things, please.

This mod is a "mod of a mod" (original mod here created by daxnitro: GLSL Shaders) that makes your Minecraft look simply unbelievably good! Take a gander!

Changelog
v04:

-Corrected SSAO and motion blur rendering together
-Added colored shadows to simulate direct and ambient light color
-Added waving leaves and fire
-Improved wind animation for all moving objects
-Corrected HDR flicker (by default HDR is off because of performance hit)
-Glare is disabled by default (can be re-enabled)
-Adjusted cross process
-Potentially fixed no textures error
-Various optimizations for performance improvement

Known Issues
This mod is somewhat incomplete and still has a few visual artifacts. These include; flickering shadows, sun shining through into caves, abrupt day/night transitions, seeing shadows through player's hand/tools, and some sky artifacts. Keep reading for tweaks on how to minimize some of these artifacts. I am waiting on an update on daxnitro's behalf for a fix to some of these issues as I am not fluent in GLSL.

Recent Changes
-Updated Shaders Only to 1.1.02, less jittering, easier configuration of shaders, better performance, subtle motion blur
-Updated Shaders Only 1.1 files for easier shadow draw distance adjustment.

About
This mod adds shaders to Minecraft in a post-process manner that simulate different effects that occur in the real-world in how light reacts with objects and with the human eye. This mod also makes tall grass move in the wind.

Note: This mod was configured with a high-spec system in mind. If you run vanilla Minecraft with max view distance and fancy settings at like 100+ fps and most modern games at med-high to high settings, then this mod should run fine for you. Read further down in the Tweaks section for how to get better performance out of this mod.

Installation
This mod requires OptiFine HD_A 1.1 preview version (in the top of the thread).

1. Download and install OptiFine 1.1 (preferably on a clean Minecraft.jar, if you've got a modded one already you can give it a shot but no guarantees this mod will work with an already modded Minecraft).

2. DOWNLOAD v1.1.04 (Windows) or DOWNLOAD v1.1.04 (everyone else) and extract the folder inside the archive anywhere (like on your Desktop). Open the folder, and run "INSTALLER.exe" (or nitrous.jar if you're not on Windows). Click "Install Mods", wait for the mod to finish patching Minecraft.jar. (To anyone with the "javassist.NotFoundException: a(..) is not found in adt" error, just right-click on the "1.0.0 line" in the Installer and disable it.) Once it's done, you should be all set! Run Minecraft and enjoy unbelievable shaders! But keep reading, for there are some tweaks you must make to your video settings to create the best experience!

2b. Make sure you have the latest and best shaders for you found in the Additional Files section below. Shaders Only 1.1 is updated more frequently than the main download and installer.

3. Go to "Options..." and make sure that your FOV is set to Normal (all the way to the left). Then open up Video Settings and then Details and turn off Sky if you want to eliminate shadows being drawn on the sky. Go back to Video Settings and then click on Other, and enable Smooth FPS. This setting will reduce input lag at the cost of fps, some may want this enabled. For better performance, turn graphics to Fast, and then re-enable specific features that you want to be Fancy in the Details section (like trees and grass edges). This gave me about a 7 fps boost even though most things look exactly the same. For some more performance tweaks (thanks to the great community!!) see here and here.

Thanks to Brinko054 for this video tutorial if you need some more help with the install!

Additional Files
Shaders Only 1.1.02

Previous Versions

v1.0 (Windows)
v1.0 (everyone else

Troubleshooting
If you are encountering issues with this mod, there are a number of things that you can do to ensure that things are running smoothly for you.

Firstly, I know it's a pain, but update your graphics drivers. I don't think I need to explain why this is a good idea :)

Some people have reported that if they run the installer twice, the mod begins to work, where when they had only run it once it didn't work. Also, if you're running Windows 7 or Vista make SURE you run with INSTALLER.exe and that you confirm administrative privileges to the installer (or better yet, go to the Control Panel and disable UAC entirely).

A list of compatible mods is available on daxnitro's wiki linked to at the top of this post. Check there if you want to use other mods with this mod.

If these things fail, go to daxnitro's GLSL Shaders thread (also linked above) and install his version and see if it gives you the same issues (should be the same installation process). If the mod installs correctly and you see some shaders, you can then directly overwrite daxnitro's shaders with my settings/shaders by delving into the .zip for my mod. Sonic Ether's Unbelievable Shaders v1.0.zip\mods\shaders\contents\files\shaders. Everything should be in there in .fsh and .vsh files. Drop these into Minecraft.jar\Shaders and overwrite the shaders that are there.

Make sure that you don't have any Anti-Aliasing or Anisotropic Filtering, or anything like that, forced in your driver settings.

If all else fails and you've drank this post up dry, head over to daxnitro's thread and check his first post.

Commonly Encountered Problems:

Dark shadow lines through terrain
Updated graphics drivers will probably fix this. If not, your gpu is probably too old to compute some of the commands that are in these shaders.

Only DOF shader visible
Overwrite the shaders in minecraft.jar/Shaders with the ones provided in the .zip located in ... .zip/mods/shaders/contents/files/shaders/ This should put my shaders into your minecraft.jar (something the installer for some reason may have failed to do).

Void of blue (all blue screen)
This seems to happen on all Intel gpu's. Unless Intel comes out with new drivers, this is unsolvable.

No dynamic shadows
Open composite.fsh in minecraft.jar/Shaders and reduce shadowresolution by editing /*SHADOWRES: ... */ to 2048 or 1024. Some systems/video cards don't have enough memory to draw high resolution shadows.

Also, make sure you installed OptiFine before installing this mod.

I just tried it out. It is amazing! The finest work of a shader mod i have ever seen. It gives quite beautiful shadows and realism to minecraft especially on server which have huge buildings etc. I recommend this to anyone looking for a realism mod =D.

Oh wow... Is there any way you can take multiple screenshots while walking forward or upload a video somewhere of what's going on? Kind of hard to pinpoint what might be causing that from just a few screens. Are there any correct shadows? Or are they all messed up? Are you running Windows?

I use a pile of other mods so I was surprised when this worked without a hitch. Purely amazing. My laptop hates me now though and I think I may have to move minecraft over to my desktop computer for the sack of a lagless experience. Does this support bump-mapped texture packs?

Well done, but the shadow are very buggy, But I think it comes from GLSL shaders, not from your shader.

@pie90087: Try putting this file into your minecraft.jar/Shaders folder and overwrite the existing one in there and see if you get different results: Alternate Shadows

@DarkVarano Indeed, the shadows are quite buggy. And yes, it's not my fault but I could hardly put blame on daxnitro, think about what he has created! I don't mind the bugginess for now, and he said he'll work extra hard to fix the shadows for the next update. I'm looking forward to that very much!

@Grog ... ... That ... well my jaw dropped when I saw your screenshots. It looks incredible!! I'll start working on a version that supports bump mapping asap :)

It looks even better when you chuck on some of those higher resolution texture packs. 64x64s and 128x128s packs don't look out of place anymore but look right at home with these shaders on. Big call but I think we may have hit a new age in minecraft. One where minecraft can actually be described as a good looking game. :P Oh and I see what you mean when you mentioned shadows in the sky. Very unsettling having those dark shapes looming over you. haha

This is amazing, thanks for making minecraft look great, anyone know if this will work with the water shader mod?

EDIT: Anyone else find this crashes when they open a GUI window like a chest or the chat on multiplayer? Im using tekkit (multiplayer version of the technicpack) don't know if it may be to do with that, or it may be my 2011 macbook pros rubbish graphics card (Intel 3000HD 384mb memory shared with main memory(The only bad thing about my computer, why did apple choose such a pants graphics card?)) Anyway, my graphics card is listed as laggy but playable on the GLSL shaders wiki so i doubt it is that. I don't know where you find crash logs, if someone could tell me where they are, i'll post them.

EDIT 2: Its now started to crash randomly, while I'm just walking around.
