My son is in scouts and it is pinewood derby time. He’s 8 by the way.
When we opened the box the first thing he said is “It looks like a minecraft block” – so he said that’s it, that’s what he wants to do. Keep it rectangle and paint it to look like the minecraft logo.
Obviously I’ll go along with whatever he wants since it’s his project. My first thought was to have him paint 3/4 of the bottom brown and then the top green. That works sure, but I am trying to wrap my brain around making it look more “pixilated” like the logo itself. Different color browns, different color greens etc.
Anyone have any experience painting that can give me advice?
I will of course post photos once it’s all done.

If you want "pixels", I'd personally be tempted to make a square template (obviously should be a 16th of the full size), and spray paint the pixels in there. Just put on your basecoat (of white), then the main colours of brown and green in standard paint, then invest in a few shades of green and brown spray paint. Thts what I'd do personally.
I invite all aspiring animators and literature role-players to join our rising community, hope to see you there! (You'll have to copy/paste the adress though as MCForums doesn't have a url tag - www.alternateplatform.com -)

Thought about that. I also thought about going to a craft store to see if they have some kind of template with a bunch of squares cut into it. Sort of like a geomtry ruler or something.
He's 8 and I want him to do 99% of it himself so I think the template may be too hard for him. We'll give it shot and use the craft store as a back up.
It certainly isnt going to be a "perfect" representation of the logo but that's just fine.

I personally would make a few stencils that have small pixel sized square holes drilled in it. You make one stencil for each color you want and then you put them against the car and paint in the holes..
My last signature got me in trouble. Here is a picture of a cat:
