Main Features

• Villagers are no longer "Caveman Squidwards". MCA replaces them with male or female humans that have many unique skins.

• Villagers can be interacted with. You can talk to them, ask them to follow you, set their home, give them gifts, etc.

• You can build a relationship with villagers. Get your relationship with one high enough and you can marry them. You can have children with the villagers that you marry.

• Your children will grow over time and do chores for you. They will eventually grow into adults who can get married and have their own children.

• Playing in Hardcore mode opens up a tiny secret feature. It's nothing too major, or is it?

• Full SMP/LAN support!

MCA has been updated to v3.3.4. See changelog for details. Hopefully this update will stop both the issues plaguing LAN and the issues with mute children, as the problem that caused both was the same thing. If it doesn't, the villager editor will now allow you to fix these children.

Apologies for no news and slow replies. Busy with IRL matters.

I've corrected guards not spawning, and I will test tomorrow to see if my fix for muted nameless children and LAN issues works correctly on a dedicated server. Then I will release update 3.3.4. I believe this one will finally put an end to the "quirkiness" of MCA with multiple players.

Translate To Another Language

MCA has a translation project hosted by Crowdin.net. There are translations open for all of Minecraft's supported languages.

Please note: Crowdin has different language distinctions/dialects, such as Brazillian Portuguese and European Portuguese. Please make sure you translate for the appropriate language distinction.

Create Skins

I'd like to keep increasing the number of skins in MCA. You can make any kind of skin you want as long as you follow these rules:

• Humans only. No strange humanoid creatures.
  
• No Herobrine or default Steve faces.
  
• Females must have eyes similar to FarmerF1 and FarmerF2.
  
• Skins must be shaded appropriately, no solid colors.

To submit them to me, put the skins in a zip archive and e-mail it to dustya@otelco.net. Include your forum username so I can give you credit in the Thanks section.

Please name the zip archive as such: Skins [Your Forum Username].zip.

Q. How do I change the language of the mod?
A. Change the language of Minecraft and the mod will change as well.

Q. Does this mod work with [insert mod name here]?
A. MCA does not modify any Minecraft classes, so it should be compatible with every single mod out there. Item ID conflicts are always a possibility but they are easily fixed by editing the mod's configuration file.

Q. Can I change item IDs or settings?
A. Yes. The mod has a configuration file located at .minecraft/config/MCA/ModProps.properties.

Q. Can I join vanilla servers with MCA installed?
A. Yes.

Q. Can I add my own skins to the mod? If so, how?
A. Yes. Open the mod's archive which is in your mods folder, go to the mca/MCA folder, and there you will see all of the skins. You can replace or add your own, but if adding they must follow the specific naming shown below. You cannot add your own professions. Gender is a single capital letter, M or F. You must also add a skin of the same name to the "Sleeping" folder.

Skins must be named as such: [Profession][Gender][ID].png

Q. Does it work on Macs?
A. Yes.

Q. Does it work on Linux?
A. Yes.

Q. Can I change the settings I made during "Setup" later in the game?
A. Yes. A librarian allows you to access setup again and change settings. There are also commands that change your name and gender.

Q. Can I keep my original villagers as Testificates?
A. Yes. You are given the option to "Overwrite Testificates" when entering a world for the first time. You can change this setting later by opening the world's configuration file or talking to a librarian.

Q. What does using hardcore mode unlock?
A.

If you die in hardcore mode and you have unmarried adult children, you can spawn as one of them and keep your world.

Common Suggestions

Q. Will you add a building chore?
A. There will never be a building chore. I have planned this out before to visualize how it would work, and after doing so I'm certain few players would like the generic x by y houses that will be built.

Players develop their own style of building - introducing these buildings into their worlds may not fit with their building style, requiring them to edit the house to their liking anyway or just tear it down. There would also come the problem of how the house will be built. Having it magically appear out of nowhere doesn't feel right for Minecraft, nor would the villager standing there watching the house build itself block by block. The only other option would be to make an AI that can actively build the house from the ground up, but I can't see myself managing to program something like that.

Then there would be the problem of programmatically mapping out each layer of each x by y house. Just one would take a good bit of work, and people would expect a good amount of variety with a building chore. Even then, like I said before, the end result may not look good to them and they'll end up tearing it down anyway and never using the chore again.

TL;DR:
It's a whole lot of work to do when nobody would ever be happy with it.

Q. Will you add [insert suggestion not mentioned above here]?
A. Probably not.

I do read any posted suggestions but I very rarely consider them unless they pertain to some technical aspect of the mod. For example, limiting the number of children on a server was a suggestion by "Aidantheawsom".

Fair warning - I intensely criticize any suggestions made. Expect to have to back up your suggestion. If you can make a good point, then I may consider it.

Q. You should collaborate with [insert mod here].
A. I am not interested in requiring another mod to be installed alongside MCA. I do, however, try my best to ensure compatibility and occasionaly inter-mod communication in other ways.

Multiplayer

Q. How do I install MCA to a server?
A. The same way you install to the client. Install Forge to the server JAR and run the server. Then place the appropriate files from MCA in the mods and config folder. You will be told if MCA is running in the server window.

Q. Does MCA have any commands?
A. Yes. Use /mca.help to see a list of them.

Q. Why do villagers call me ","?
A. You must tell the server what your name is when you log in. Use the command /mca.set.name <NAME>

Q. There's no setup screen when I join a server.
A. There isn't supposed to be one. Set your name and gender by using commands. Other options are handled by the server administrator.

Q. Can I disable certain functions of MCA on my server?
A. Yes. You can limit the number of children a player can have and whether or not certain chores will work. Access these settings by going to your server folder and navigating to config/MCA/ModProps.properties.

Items and Recipes

Wedding Ring - Gift to a villager to get married to them.



  

Engagement Ring - Gift to a villager to become engaged to them. Give them a wedding ring afterwards to cause all nearby villagers to give you gifts.





Arranger's Ring - Gift to two different people to make them get married to each other.





Whistle - Right click while holding it to call your children and spouse to your current location.





Tombstone - Place it on the ground and write on it like a sign as a tribute to a lost family member.

Inventories/Equipping Items

Q. How do I make my child or spouse equip a weapon or armor of a certain type?
A. Children and spouses will always equip the item or armor with the highest maximum durability. You cannot force them to use lesser tools when they have better ones in their inventory.

Q. How big are the inventories?
A. Your spouse and children all have a 36 slot inventory, the same size as yours.

Q. Will they use enchanted items?
A. No. Do not give them enchanted items as the enchantment on them may be lost.

Q. Will they use items from other mods?
A. Items such as swords and other tools usually work. Armor usually does not appear.

Interaction

Spoiler:

Q. How do I raise hearts?
A. Chat or Joke to take a change to either raise or lower hearts by a small amount. Give them gifts to raise hearts quickly. The more expensive the gift is, the more that their hearts will go up.

Q. How do I give gifts?
A. Click "Gift" when interacting with a villager and then right click them again while holding the item you wish to give them. Be careful, you cannot get your gifted item back once you give it to the villager.

Q. What does "Set Home" do?
A. It will make the villager teleport to that location and go to sleep when nighttime begins, so they don't wander off. Keep them away from half blocks and stairs, because that messes with setting their home point. You will be notified if setting their home point fails.

Marriage and Engagement

Q. How do I get engaged?
A. Give the engagement ring to a villager when their hearts are at 100 or above.

Q. What does engagement do for me?
A. It causes all villagers nearby to give you gifts based on their relationship with you.

Q. What kinds of gifts do they give?
A. The possible gifts and amount given varies on their relationship with you. Hearts at 75-100 yield the best results.

Q. Do I have to get engaged before I get married?
A. No. You can skip engagement and give them a wedding ring directly. You will not receive gifts from the villagers.

Q. I'm engaged, but I get a warning when I go to procreate.
A. That's because if you procreate while you're engaged, you don't receive any gifts. Give them a wedding ring as well.

Q. Can I marry more than one villager at a time?
A. No.

Q. Can I marry a villager with the same gender as myself?
A. Yes.

Q. How do I make my spouse hold the baby?
A. Gift it to them or place it in their inventory.

Q. Can I end my marriage?
A. Yes. You can either kill your spouse or go to a priest and have them arrange for a divorce. Your spouse keeps the items in their inventory if they're not close enough to you during the divorce.

Arranging Marriages

Q. How do I arrange a marriage?
A. Craft two arranger's rings. Make the two villagers you want to be married get close to each other. Making them follow you works well. Give them both an arranger's ring when they are close to each other and they will become married.

Q. Do the married villagers have babies?

A. The baby turns into a regular villager with the profession of its father.

Babies

Q. How do I have a baby?
A. When married, click "Procreate" when interacting with your spouse.

Q. Does it matter what I name it?
A. No. You can name your child whatever you want. See the spoiler for special names that add abilities to your child.

Name your female child Katniss to get a Katniss skin. They do extra damage with bows.
Name your child Shepard to get a Commander Shepard skin. They throw Creepers into the air and make them explode.

Q. What do I do with the baby once I have one?
A. You have to wait a certain amount of time for it to grow. The time is 10 minutes by default.

Q. How many can I have?
A. You can have only one baby growing at a time, but you can have an unlimited number of children.

Q. How do I know when it is ready to grow up?
A. A message appears telling you so.

Q. What if I don't see the message?
A. It appears each time you start your world.

Q. How do I make my baby grow up?
A. Right click the ground while holding it.

Q. I lost my baby! What do I do?
A. You can't get it back without cheating. To be able to have another one go to a priest and select "Give Up Baby" in the Special menu.

Children and Chores

Q. Do children grow up further?
A. Yes. They grow into adults after 60 minutes by default.

Q. Do they grow up automatically?
A. If you allow them to. If you want them to grow automatically, they will gradually get taller as they approach adulthood. If you don't want them to grow automatically, they will remain small until you tell them they can grow up.

Q. Do my children require items to do their chores?
A. Yes. Anything you can do without items, such as chopping trees or killing animals, your children won't require any items as well. However fishing, farming, etc. does require items.

Q. Does the material of the item make a difference?
A. Yes. A better material will of course equal faster working.

Q. What is "Passive" mining?
A. They help you locate the ore that you select. If there is some nearby, they tell you how many blocks away it is but not in which direction. This damages their pickaxe three times each time they tell you where some ore is.

Q. What is "Active" mining?
A. They will mine through blocks in the direction that you choose and at the distance you choose.

Adults

A. They can get married to other people.

Q. How do I make them get married?
A. The same way as you do with normal villagers.

Q. Can they have kids?
A. Yes. The same way as two married villagers.
