Better Then BuildCraft represents a collaborative effort between SpaceToad (BuildCraft) and FlowerChild (Better Than Wolves) to provide a more unified play experience when using their two mods together!

Not only does it provide compatibility between the two, but it goes much further in providing cross-functionality and a massive combined tech-tree that spans approximately 20 hours of game-play! It will also continue to be expanded upon with time to provide more and more cross-functionality as the two individual mods continue to grow.

You can grab version 3.00 right here:

Version 3.00 updates the mod to the 3.x branch of BuildCraft!

Installation instructions may be found in the readme.txt included with the download, but if you need additional help, it can be found here:

A more detailed trailer video will be made available soon!

[**** A Note On Minecraft Forge ****]

Minecraft Forge is NOT required to be installed for this mod to function (installing it separately will actually interfere with the proper functioning of this mod). However, the current release of BTB contains several Forge files.

As per the Forge licensing agreement, source code for those Forge files that are modified are included with the mod download. Source files for all other Forge files can be found here:

Additional details may be found in the mod's readme.txt

[*** Mod Instructions ***]

Better Then BuildCraft follows the Better Than Wolves tech-tree in terms of various blocks and items becoming available to you as you explore additional aspects of the mod. As such, these instructions follow the "Ages" defined in the BTW thread, which can be found here:

Better Than Wolves Thread

the age in which features are listed defines when a particular aspect of BuildCraft becomes available to you.

Note that several recipes have changed from what they are when playing BuildCraft on its own in order to merge the two tech-trees into one cohesive experience. In some cases, even the names of blocks and items have changed to better represent how they work in BTB, in which case the following instructions list both the name in BTB, along with what the corresponding item is named in BuildCraft (noted with "BCE:").

Any BuildCraft features that are not listed in the following instructions can be assumed to function in the same manner they normally would, and to have the same recipes they normally do within BuildCraft.

Further information on BuildCraft can be found here:

BuildCraft Web-Site

[*** The Age Of Wood Tier 3: Power Tools***]

Wood Engine: (BCE: Redstone Engine) One crucial difference to note when using BTB is that the Wood Engine may ONLY be powered through Axles running into its base, or through a Hand Crank placed to its sides. As such, they need to be hooked up to the Better Than Wolves mechanical system in order to operate.

Wrench: Note that Better Then BuildCraft extends the functionality of the Wrench to work on all relevant Better Than Wolves Blocks (Gear Boxes, Axles, etc.) as well as extending it to work on the various kinds of minecart rails and pistons found in vanilla Minecraft.

Transport Pipe: (BCE: Cobblestone Transport Pipe)

Transport Intake Pipe: (BCE: Wood Transport Pipe)

Directional Transport Pipe: (BCE: Iron Transport Pipe)

[*** The Age Of Wood Tier 5: Fire Mastery***]

Low Friction Transport Pipe: (BCE: Stone Transport Pipe) Low Friction Pipes may be created by heating 4 Transport Pipes in a Cauldron along with Tallow.

Waterproof Pipes: The various forms of Waterproof Pipes may be created by heating 4 regular Transport Pipes of the appropriate type in a Cauldron with Glue (slime balls may also be used as an alternative). Additionally, Waterproof Pipes may be converted back into Transport Pipes by heating them in a Cauldron with Soap (also at a 4 to 1 Pipe to Soap ratio).

Pump:

Spout: A block unique to Better Then BuildCraft, when placed beneath a Tank that contains water, the Spout allows you to return that water to the environment in the form of a water flow. The Spout may also be opened and closed through applying a redstone signal. This is extremely useful when used in combination with Hardcore Buckets, as it allows you to create water flows within the environment by pumping water from a source in a different location. Note that a single wooden engine that has warmed up fully, will pump enough water to keep a single Spout producing a continual stream of water. Also, trying to channel fluids other than water through a Spout will damage the internal mechanism and cause the Spout to break.

[*** A New Age Tier 1: Steel ***]

Steel Gear: (BCE: Iron Gear)

Steam Engine:

Combustion Engine:

Golden Transport Pipe:

Golden Transport Pipes are created by placing 2 regular Transport Pipes in a stoked Crucible, along with a gold bar.

Obsidian Transport Pipe:

Conductive Pipe: (BCE: Stone Conductive Pipe)

Conductive Intake Pipe: (BCE: Wood Conductive Pipe)

Golden Conductive Pipe:

Golden Conductive Pipes may either be created with the following recipes, or alternative, by heating 2 Regular Conductive Pipes in a stoked Crucible with a gold bar.

[*** Compatibility Recipes ***]

There are certain aspects of the BuildCraft tech-tree that do not appear in Better Then BuildCraft, however, alternate recipes for those aspects have been included in order to maintain compatibility with any BuildCraft add-on mods that may use them.

[*** Miscellaneous Mod Features ***]

Additional Uses for Wrenches: With BTB installed, players may use wrenches to reorient Better Than Wolves blocks, minecart rails, and pistons.

Hardcore Buckets: By default, Better Then BuildCraft is set to use Hardcore Buckets from BTW. This makes designing systems that use water-flow much more interesting as it prevents you from being able to place water source-blocks with a bucket. Instead, players must use Pumps, Waterproof Pipes, and the new Spout block to generate water flows as needed. This setting may be disabled through the mod config file, but players are strongly encouraged to try it out first as it makes the various automation challenges in the mod a much more interesting experience overall.

It's great to see these two awesome mods being put together. Good luck!

Nice English comprehension failure bro.

FC, it looks awesome. Much more involved than I expected the first release to be (at least after I came to terms with this being your project :P )

Damn, I totally didn't think that you would actually give us such easy hints FC. Reversed-reverse psychology. Ah well...

Not sure how into this I will get, but it's amazing what you've done! Especially with managing to finish it in four (?) days.

I have to ask. Are there any plans on including the other Forge mods? I'm assuming you know which ones I'm talking about so I won't name them. : )

Hah. Now that's a daring title. I assure you, dear sirs, there's no grammar error.

Looks epic. Can't get BTW/BC to work with my current settings but will likely give it a try from scratch.

Will buildcraft addons like forestry work with this or be made to work for this?

Any chance of industrialcraft^2 in the future?

I saw this thread, didn't see who it was by, and thought; "Aw HELL no."

Only you, FlowerChild.

Only you could do this in a way that doesn't warrant my disrespect, just for the topic name alone.

Skimmed through the thread. I keep telling myself I'll try BTW someday. That "someday" seems like it'll be sooner now.

EDIT: Should I get my hopes up for a Better Than IndustrialCraft?

I like how the thread's staying true to form, with people misunderstanding the mod's title >.<

Are you seriously telling me that now I can have all the power of Buildcraft combined with the balance and gradual progression of BTW?

...

WOOOOO!

Thanks FC and SpaceToad :D

Agreed.

Except for the fact that I couldn't disagree more.
