Please can somebody help me? Is there a texture pack where a chest fills up one whole block like it did before Beta 1.8.1? If not would it be easy to make my own one?

Texture packs can only change the TEXTURE of chests. You have to install a mod for that.

why would sombody want that?

it isn't possible to do this with a texture pack (as far as i know) what you need is a mod.

As I know the size of the chest does not depend on the textures. Notch changed the code so that chests are smaller now.

Maybe there is a mod for that :)

You cannot edit the shape of chests with a texture pack. The only plausible way to do such, without downgrading to pre-1.8 would be with a mod, and that won't be easy, unless you know java.
