This is the third map in a series
Part I
Part II

Year 1934

Calmere Bay - Massachusetts
May 22, 1934

Four days ago an FBI agent was extracted from the town of Calmere after facing some serious threats. Two days ago a navy destroyer “USS Farragut” was sent into the Calmere bay to block the town from the sea until more intel was gathered and an assault unit was formed. The destroyer together with a few navy patrol boats however faced some unforseen difficulties.

One of the sailors on board the destroyer, Sgt. Andrew Field, showed extreme courage facing the critical situation and therefore I would like to award Sgt. Field the navy cross…

Your story begins 2 days earlier.

The map and the story are largely influenced by H.P.Lovecraft's books.

Here's a warning: This is not a normal adventure map, it relies heavily on roleplaying and living into the story. This episode is quite short but fast paced, bringing yet another bit of the peculiar story of Calmere to the player.

All rules, the custom texture pack and story are included in the download

*If you want really good atmosphere then use a mod that lets handheld and/or dropped torches emit light as well.
*Also if you can in any way, I suggest disabling creepers or turning off their block destruction, as they can and will ruin your game if they happen to explode in a wrong place.

IMPORTANT: To turn off the creepers I used zombe's mod pack 1.8, it worked without conflicts.
Also be sure to use the texture pack in the download .zip of this episode.

Suggestions:
The level can be played either solo or on multiplayer
Best experiance is achieved playing solo, the chests mostly contain 2 sets of items, so if you are playing solo just take one set. Also as the new health system is heavily changed by the hunger, you will probably be finishing this with stacks of food, for a bigger challenge you may just take less food with you.

Constructive critisism is very welcome, if I'm going to make more maps like this I want your feedback to make them more enjoyable for everyone. Also If someone has any good ideas or wants to help me you are more than welcome, just send me a personal message. As making everything for the map (the map itself, texture pack, whole story etc.) takes lots of time, some things may be a bit unpolished. Thanks for reading through all of this, hope you enjoy the game! ;)

Download link: http://www.mediafire...k01qwpcoj77qi0d

Installation

Drop the "Calmere Bay" folder in your .minecraft saves folder

Put the texture pack .zip in your .minecraft texture packs folder (DO NOT UNPACK IT)

You can access your .minecraft folder by opening your appdata folder. (Start menu -> Run -> Type in "%appdata%" -> .minecraft folder should be there)

For the sake of story I would strongly recommend so (nothing in it for me, I don't get any money for downloads or views). If you are not so much interested in the story you can just try this one out and if you like it then play the first 2 as well. ;)

Yeah, they started the maintenance right after I uploaded the map, it's done now though. :P

It should normally indeed shoot at the monster. Mobs jumping in front of the cannon can however block the projectile and blow you up. I know that the cannon isn't very foolproof, but it seemed to work good enough when I tested it. :/

I really like your adventure maps, I can tell that you spend/have spent a lot of time thinking up plots and puzzles. Though does this map have anything different to the other two ?

I noticed in number two that there was the multiple choice note dialogue that you implemented and I thought that It had definitely improved.

Umm I am no map creator but I would LOVE to see LA noire style buildings and/or setting. Definitely keep the cop/FBI/detective genre, and/or maybe you should have to collect evidence to advance to the next stage....dunno how you could make it simple for stupid people though

By the way, Ever read any Clive Cussler books ?

Well the episodes will tell a story piece by piece, and I know they get a bit repetative but there will be a new major location in Ep5 that concludes this story and I try to include some new things every episode. I may try out something LA noire style later on, after I'm finished with the Calmere story. Also I have a side project I try to release ASAP and I hope people will like. I liked the detective thing as well and I think that will be the main focus for the next series.

Also as you pointed out, some players may be overwhelmed by too complex gameplay, but I'll think of something.

And no I haven't read his books :/

Anyways thanks for this extensive feedback, this confirms some of my hopes and also some flaws I noticed myself. :)

How come you made this one short while the others were long?

It was going to be so short from the beginning, I tried to use as much of the ship as possible, but I know it's really short anyways. The next two episodes are going to be a lot longer and a special Calmere map is coming out soon. It's not directly a part of the story but I hope people will still enjoy it.

At first it seemed disappointing, but after a while I realized that the simplicity helps the map in a lot of ways. A few things I noticed:
1. The map is a lot less linear than the other ones, and due to this I think I may have accidentally skipped over some of the story.
2. The beginning of all of the transmissions are blocked by the "Map_#" thingy that shows up in the upper left-hand corner of all maps.
3. After I shot the cannon, the beast seemed unfazed. It then slowly started ripping the boat apart (not really, but it didn't blow up).

Though this map is very good, especially for a mini-adventure, it is not really the same kind of map as the first two, with episodes 1 and 2 a bit more in-depth and engaging, and episode 3 being more about action, adventure, exploration, and (probably) setting up for episode 4.

Some screenies I took:

The tnt at the end doesn't go nearly far enough. This map was a HUGE disappointment after playing the other two. Short, swimming against current, and no real Role-Playing like your other ones
