Yeah...lua machines hate be packed inside of Java...lol

When I stuff my zip into the mods folder, the mod isn't found by modloader. when I stuff it in my jar, the lua virtual machine screams at me because it hates being stuffed in a java compressed folder.

You don't put the zip in the mods folder, you need to extract it.

READ THIS GUYS!!!

Okay guys, here's what you do to get it to work right. Take that zip, and extract it. you should get a folder called "ComputerCraft". you stick this into your mods folder. The reason? The computer in the game can't open up zip files.

It's not too clear on the front page. Lol, I don't know how lua machines work, but appearently they can't navigate zip files too well.

This is exactly right! I've updated the OP to hopefully make this clearer.
