Hey all,

For some reason I am unable to place or break any blocks and am unable to interact with buttons, levers, etc on my minecraft 1.0 hamachi bukkit server. I've got a feeling it has something to do with the permissions plugins I have installed. However, I have nothing written in the permissions text files and all that. Maybe that could be the problem but I'm not exactly sure. If it is the problem, could you please reply to this thread and give me an example or source of what to put in the permissions text files and all that and how to set it up so everybody can build. Because I'm no genius and this is my first time setting up a bukkit server with a bunch of plugins.  

If maybe you think the problem is to do with something else, please, I urge you to reply to this thread with a detailed solution or source. Because I am having a MASSIVE amount of trouble here just trying to simple build on my server with my friends.

I'll be needing a solution urgently because I'm that desperate to play on my server which I can't even built on...

Try moving further from the spawn.

I doubt that's it, actually, because when I made my LAN server a few months ago, I build a little structure right at the spawn. I'm not sure what it could be...

In your properties file is there something about a spawn limit? It means you can't build/mine for that many blocks.


(sorry if I'm wrong, I haven't hosted a server in so long haha)

Try adding yourself to the OP file.

Yes I have done that, I've added my Minecraft Username to the OP.txt file and I have even done it in game by typing /op Pacman.

So I'm really not sure what the problem is...

Well yes I have done that. I've moved like more than 500 blocks away from where I spawned yet...I still can't break or place blocks...

Nah there's nothing in the server properties about the spawn limit. But thank you so much for trying.

Well, I'm actually still developing my hamachi bukkit server. I just wanted to completely polish it before I released any details of it. And no, it will not be white listed.

And thank you very much for your solution however I have already done that and well...still no breaking or placing blocks on my server...  


Please guys, keep those solutions and replies coming in.

Alright.. tell me exactly what plugins do you have, probably it's caused by a little mistake in any config, also copy-paste the startup of your server, it'll tell us a lot.

hey can u help me too? im having the sane problem   my plugins are:Colors, Easypeasy,JaillikeHell,LWC,Niftywarp, permissions, WorldEdit, WorldGuard, AntiCreeper, SignColours
And oddly enough, i can break and place with world edit,  but not with my fist  HELP

I had something similar happen.  In my case, making myself OP "solved" it, but what was the point of that if I was using permissions?  SO I figured it out.  I had move the spawn point to a "welcome building".  There was a setting preventing anyone from building too close to spawn point.  So I changed spawn point back and everything was ok.

I have no idea in your case, especially with OPs.

I had a situation where on my server, I went into the nether and flew around it with a flying mod for a while, then I lost the portal and started building another portal but it was so laggy It took so long, and the Zombie Pigmen and Ghasts were attacking me. I left my server, still in the nether tho, Went on my friend's server, and I then couldn't
break and place blocks, it didn't even show the breaking animations.

Hey, I have the exact same problem i can sometimes build for about 10secs then i cant or switch items or use any items on mine or other servers I think it is something to do with bukkit, it doesn't work on any servers i tried, not even letting me interact with objects including chests. My plugins are: essentials, voxelsniper, worldedit, autocraft, rocket boots, pig grinder, class ranks, iconomy, commandsigns and lockette. (I like messing around with plugins)

Just found out that if you force update your MC i works

Try OPing yourself and then see if you have spawn limit enabled, set that to 0 if it is.

To address the potential issues:

If using essentialsprotect, you're going to have to grant build rites to the groups. (if you don't care, delete it)
If using permissionsEx make sure you have the build=true flag.  If modifyworld is installed (which it comes with permissionsEx) and enabled (in config) then make sure building classes have some variation of modifyworld.<something> flag.  (for full build rites with no exceptions modifyworld.*)
if using most any permissions system, Read the documentation! there is without a doubt a comment mentioning how to enable/disable building for each group/player.  This will even override op in terms of building for some plugins.

you need to go to the permissions properties, then it says normal gruop build: false, change it to true
