This review scratches the surface a bit, shows you a few of the NPCs, a few items, I think im going to put together an informative video detailing every single aspect of the mod up to date and all the functions, and re-write the thread so its easier to read
A-Level Exam Period -
My Exam period just started and i have this next 8 weeks or so to bring nothing but as much pain misery biology and physics into my life as possible, it's very unlikely i'll be putting out significant updates during this period, but i will pick this up again when my exams are over
IMPORTANT NOTE! - whenever any item or entity from this mod places an item into your inventory, you NEED to have an inventory slot free otherwise nothing will appear to have happened.
Download -
1.2.5 updated, has some new NPC's, i also made the whole Bonus NPC thing alot neater, I was also very very very tired when i made this update so if theres bugs... i'll get right on them, tommorow-ish.
The Boaty NPC is mountable and reacts according to your mouse movements, if you move your mouse really fast boaty will panic and start running and jumping all over the place very erratically.
This was a complete accident and i intend to make him behave like a proper boat in the next update
~note~ Download the minecraftforge-CLIENT.zip file, NOT the src or the server zips. 1.3.4.41 and everything Upwards of that V of forge from that page will work just fine Download and install as per my instructions below.
NOTE - if you're updating from an older version, simply Drag the updated class files across and delete the mymods folder currently in your Jar, and put in the NEW mymods folder you received from the newest download.
Quote
installation instructions -
-In a fresh 1.1 minecraft jar, delete META-INF
-Install ModLoader (drag the modloader files into the jar)
-Install the Forge API (drag the Forge API files into the jar)
-Drag ALL the files you received in my download into the jar
-Play! (check it works first, THEN feel free to install any other desired mods )
GUIDE -
2 Versions - here is a downloadable tutorial adventure map that explains the inner workings of the mod in a more practical sense.
Or for those who prefer a text guide then feel free to examine this how-to list.
List of things to do to Help you get started
Getting started
Spoiler
-1 First off, search around grassy plains in your world for torches on top of wood planks in the ground that spawn, there's some ruins and loot beneath them
-2 You'll be able to find your first NPC block, mud, this spawns farmer bob when you have the appropriate housing conditions.
-3 Set that mud block down and build a house according to the on-screen chat instructions, then spawn bob - congratulations! you got your first NPC!
-4 Whenever his name glows golden, right-click him and he will give you some wheat as a little "thank-ye fer freein me!" present
-5 Talk to bob for long enough and he will mention that he desperately wants a melon, Search around underground for some randomly generated chests near mossy cobble that coincidentally contain melons! (and of course, a diamond or two) also be on the lookout for other ruins whilst your there... Especially nether brick.
-6 Make sure you mine some of that glowing magic essence you find underground, it's an all purpose miracle magic and it'll come in handy soon ~ Give bob his melon and he will produce a "magical doo-dad he found under his pillow" this is the next NPC's Home Block. You can trade for as many of these as you like if you have the melons for it.
-7 Build the next NPC's house in the same fashion as before, you might need to do a bit of mining for all the materials needed though.
-8 Afterwards, or in the meantime if you're tired of being underground, travel into the desert and try to find a desert temple holding a black and gold idol. Feed this idol some gold ingots and see what you get!
-9 When you have your next NPC, Michelle, chat to her a bit and offer her a diamond for your first magical item - a sceptre that shoots fireballs! If you were lucky enough to have 9 diamonds, you could have placed a diamond block in her house and spawned a 3rd NPC, her sister Twilight! Same as before, when their names glow golden, take their items from them. It happens roughly every 5 minutes (6000 game ticks - a minecraft day is 24000 game ticks)
////OPTIONAL - Use the magic essence to build traps to defend your NPC's from creepers and what not, surround a stone pressure plate with magic essence to amke a magick pressure plate. Jump on it. It'll give you candy. *pokerface* Surround magick pressure plates with more magic essence to make EXPLOSIVE magick plates. they explode when ANYTHING touches them, including particle effects. Use a redstone signal to turn the plates *off* so that your pets can safely walk across them
-10 Chat with your NPC's, learn a little lore if you like, bring them items they mention in their chat, and now we can start fooling around with magic essence. If you have Risugami's crafting book installed you can view all the recipes quickly and easily, (DO IT OR I WILL END YOU.) For now, get yourself a book and surround it with magic essence in the crafting table.
-11 Thats a strange book you got isn't it? Right-click it to find out how to turn it into a low-level lightning tome. Now, if you don't have the NPC Twilight yet, it's time to go get her, we need her to progress. If you've been offering plenty of gold to those desert idols then you will have come across an item called the Lucky HorseShoe. Keep grinding these until one of them "Places something dark and terrible into your inventory"
the name of this block will be obscured.
-12 you should be able to get these blocks fairly easily with enough gold save one for a later purpose, and DO NOT put these blocks near anything of value to you. Why? Right-click it a few tiems and you'll find out... Defeat whichever boss spawns from the block and take it's items, you can use these as catalysts for the mid-tier and high-tier spell items, refer to a recipe guide to see how.
-13 Remember that one you saved? Take it to the local sorceress (Twilight/Michelle) and have her draw some of the good magic back out of it (MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN INVENTORY SLOT FREE) and you will receive your fourth NPC block (or fifth, depending on how lucky you were with the desert idols ) but it'll ask you for something strange, a crystal idol?
-14 Crystal Idols can only be found on floating islands, time to find one! they spawn in places where sand meets water, your best bet is to search the desert edges and shore-lines. It's quite rare for them to spawn in-land to you'll have to venture a fair distance to find one likely. Once you do find one, set down your NPC block in a hole in the ground, place down a rose and a bookshelf, and spawn the NPC Valcain!
-15 Valcain is the in-game 'Lore-Master' for the mod, right-click him with almost any item from my mod and he will tell you a little about it, or make obscure references to internet humour, one of the two. The crystal idols on the islands are used exclusively for enchanting diamonds to make Magick Diamonds, you may have come across 1 or two already when mining magic essence ( 1/100 chance of receiving ) but this is now your fast-track to obtaining them.
-16 Finish making all the items and spells listed in the recipes! It should take you a little while, you'll need to farm gluttony quite a bit, but you can always make use of my traps to end his life rather quickly if you're rather intelligent :3
NOTE:: To get Black diamonds, put some blood diamonds into the crystal idol and make sure you have an inventory slot free
-17 There's a little more for you to find on your own, but this is the extent of the content available so far.If you're reading this, please please PLEASE leave a reply to the thread with some feedback, its ever so important to me so that i can adjust anything that needs adjusting, and suggestions too! I'm usually persuaded to put out content quicker when the thread gets replies too ;o
Distribution
If you wish to include this mod in a modpack of ANY sorts, go right ahead I'd appreciate if my name were placed somewhere amongst a list of credits, but as long as the name of the mod is there that right there is free publicity in itself, which i whole heartedly appreciate ;D also send me a PM if you do, i'll probably need to make the Block and Item ID's configurable for you if you intend to use this
the only one thing i do NOT approve of is plaguerism. Don't steal my work, or else i'll be a sad panda.. A sad panda with a chainsaw.
I don't particularly want to spend alot of time making sure people don't post their own links of my content on other sites so i'll just say if you do, just leave a link to this thread somewhere and credit my name if you please
F.A.Q
Q) What is the point of this mod? What does it add SPECIFICALLY? I can't understand your clusterfuck of a post!
A) This mod add's randomly generated structures with magic loot to find, a single ore, NPC's that you can unlock and collect like pokémonz by building them a house, a few magic spells, some gilded blocks, some strong mobs and 4 Bosses.
Q) Whoa whoa- you had me at magic loot. What sort of magic loot?
A) Well, it add's idols that you can offer gold ingots too for completely random effects, sometimes awesome items, sometimes awesome death, the NPC boxes that you rescue them from by building them their kingdom again, Sceptres and tomes that cast fireballs and lightning etc..
Q) Coolstory. Now whats this about NPC boxes and collecting pokémanz and such?
A) You aquire blocks that contain the souls of NPC's from the old kingdom that can only be released by building them suitable housing accomodation, once they're released they'll stay around their house and some will teach you spells, some will make you new blocks and trade etc.. none of them are overly avid fighters.
Q) What- They don't fight for me? LAAAME. Why not?
A) NPC's fighting with the player is a bad idea, have you SEEN PBat's pet graveyard from his survival series? It's about a half-mile long. but you DO receive a friendly little magma slime to fight for you when you get that spell Followers ARE planned, they're just not there yet.
Q) K, so what are these 'Bosses' like?
A) They are the seven deadly sins and the four horseman of the apocalypse, bent on purifying the sins of man (AKA, YOU) and intend to smite you in all their heavenly smugness.
Q) x boss keeps killing me, they're too overpowered!
A) Use fire resistance potions / strength potions / traps. It's worth the effort for the rewards
Q) x NPC isn't spawning from x block! What do i do?
A) Refer to the list of blocks listed underneath the NPC's section of this post and tell me if i've forgotten to input the chat message telling you which blocks to use in-game
Q) How do i make x item in your mod? Not all the recipes are listed here
A) Download and install Risugami's Crafting guide or another mod fit for the purpose of viewing recipe's in-game
Q) x NPC was missing when i came to check on him!
A) He/she either 1, fell down a hole, 2, wandered off into the sunset somewhere far away because you didn't build walls around him/her or 3, was killed by a monster because your house is too dark / unsafe Build them adequete defences if you want to protect them.

After playing through the Millenaire, tale of kingdoms and humans + mods, which i enjoyed thoroughly, i always felt seperated from the NPC's, there was always an AI barrier of some form that prevented me form being wholely immersed in the game. In millenaire it was that my interaction with the construction of the villages felt minimal, just handing over the blocks and watching a house pop up out of the ground didn't appease my creative side. In the humans + mod it was that for some reason they ALL wanted to kill me XD Tale of Kingdoms was that i wanted to be able to build my kingdom myself rather then have it built for me (everything else is perfect in T.O.F i lurve it )
All 3 are brilliant mods regardless and i reccomend all of them whole-heartedly
I quite liked the way that NPC's would move into houses that had proper living conditions in Terraria, and the witty dialogue attributed to the player by them. I wanted to essential port that aspect of the game into minecraft, i wanted to be able to build a structure and if it adhered to some pre-prepared prerequisites, then i could make an NPC move in.
In the end, i would like to be able to slowly amass my own kingdom, similar to the tale of kingdoms mod but instead built by myself by hand, build a castle for a mighty king to move in who will send me on my quest to travel to the End and kill the ender dragon, and take back the dragon egg to him for a nice sum of gold and diamonds and maybe some special armour / magic spell / sword, an item of your choosing.
Tl;DR? This is the description for you
Spoiler
(TL;DR - There was once some huge kingdom where everybody shat gold bricks and proceeded to build houses from them
There was also a creeper kingdom, they resented the shiny golden perfect kingdom as they cannot shat gold bricks, only death.
Everything was perfect until the fatass pathetic excuse for a monarchy made a deal with a mysterious figure, A.K.A, the creeper overlord with the help of sleipner, the son of Loki god of deception "Trickster," to come in and turn their gold bricks into diamond brticks.
There were no diamond bricks. Only death and splosions as far as the eye could see. The perfect kingdom began to crumble as a man with white eyes turned the kings soul into the 7 deadly stale marshmellow monsters.
the creeper kingdom soon fell victim to his own deception he was betrayed by sleipner being ridden by a man with white-eyes, some shit happened and the creeper kingdom overlord got blown to kingdom come. Leaving both kingdoms in ruin.
the survivors from both kingdoms souls were sealed within magical lockboxes and scattered across the earth. Which soon become your personal play-things to do your bidding as you rise and become the new overlord of both kingdoms, uniting both in everlasting peace and harmony.
Or, you can just steal the gold and various other magical loot buried underground and in ruins generated across the map and hoard it to yourself in a blinged out golden castle. Have fun.)
EXTREMELY lengthy and detailed back-story for mod. *wall of text, only click if you're an avid reader with more then just a passing interest in literature -
Spoiler
Long ago, there was a magical kingdom full of mystery and wonder.. The people who lived there were at peace, they had powerful magicks to dissuade any potential enemies from seeking to cause them harm, and lived long enchanted lives. Gargantuan fields of wheat could be conjured at the flick of a wrist, and grown to maturity in mere minutes, there was food and wine aplenty. They had even perfected a form of alchemy and had managed to grow huge Golden-Bark pine trees made from solid gold. These people could not have been happier with the state of things.. All of them, apart from one...
The leader of these people, the most benevolent, cherished and adored king ever to exist, had found himself with quite the headache. He had run out of gifts to offer his people at the summer solstus! He had all the gold in the world, so much so that he had carved the very ground they walked on out of it! Truly his golden capital city was a sight to behold... And it was indeed beholded, by a very dark figure indeed.. Gossip had spread amongst the people that the king was struggling to find a suitable offering for this years solstus, they people spoke of it and tried to think of ways to help him; But that gossip reached the ears of one not so like-minded individual.
The tales of the monarchies woe had ridden along a sweeping southern wind.. To the ears of the Creeper Overlord. He too had a kingdom, a broken down wreck of steel and muck, after all, a creepers only means of defence is to explode, and they did not have the magicks to repel the wild beasts that surrounded their kingdom. But they were not unintelligent creatures, not like the creepers of today, no.. One such creeper proved in fact to be the most cunningly devious of the lot, a cruel beast depraved of any sense of morality. Should a beast attack the kingdom, he would throw his brothers at it, why waste his life when he can use his own kind? They didn't have the intelligence to doubt his word, they would do as he asked in a heart-beat, they are strongly bonded creatures after all, they were docile back then. Eventually, he managed to organise his brethren into a militia, an armament of trained killers to do his bidding, and he became worshipped as the creeper overlord. No beast dared attack the creepers after this.
He resented the golden kingdom, why should they sit upon blocks of gold whilst he sat upon blocks of mud and clay? But he was smart enough to see the danger in their magicks, he dare not risk a frontal attack. But he also saw something else in their magicks, so confident were they of their magnificent powers that they openly flaunted them for selfish needs, mundane house chores such as cooking and cleaning, the growth of their food, the supply of their water, they were no more masters of the magick then they were slaves to it, it controlled every aspect of their daily lives! In this, he saw weakness.. No sooner had he realised this had a mysterious figure approached his encampment. His soldiers had failed to kill it, neigh lay a hand on it, it surrounded itself with an impenetrable shroud and spoke with an un-godly resonating echo. He saw the power of the beast and opted to side for diplomacy seeing as his soldiers could not kill it. They conversed a while, learned each others names and then it spoke of the purpose for its visit. It called itself Sleipner, son of Loki, and mentioned the trouble the king was having. It whispered dark vices of a plan most foul, a way to enter the kings kingdom under false pretence of turning the kings gold blocks.. into diamond blocks. The overlord smiled, and inquired what the sleipner wanted from him. "Destruction", said the sleipner, and the overlord felt inclined to accept the offer of the shadowy figure.
The shadowy figure disguised the creeper overlord as a human and told him of a secret route into the sleeping chambers of the king, hidden from the magick defenses and out of sight from the gaurd.. The overlord was far too tempted by the thought of arousing chaos in that perfect golden palace to question the sleipners integrity, and off he set about this secret route. Down into caverns, up through pipes, winding and winding through narrow spaces, the creeper eventually found himself in the royal palace of gold, just as the sleipner had said. In front of him lay the king in his warm toasty gold bed, just as the sleipner had said. He thought for a breif moment of the words he would speak, and sidled up to the kings bed. He called the king softly with a voice endowed upon him by the magicks of the sleipner, a soothing voice with a magical undertone that eases the mind and relaxes muscle tension. The king stirred from his slumber and faced the mysterious figure.
"..Who..Who are you? What are you doing in my chambers?" Said the king, feeling sligtly alarmed the gaurds had not notified him prior to this mans visit. The creeper spoke once more in his enchanted voice, and made himself out to be a humble subject, here to offer a solution to his dilemma of the summer solstus gift. "Diamond blocks..? Yes.. yes of course! that would be perfect! but where would we get so much diamond?" The king had forgotten his worries of who the man was at the thought of resolving his problem. The creeper spoke the words the sleipner had told him to say, he told the king of a way to forge diamond from gold by infusing it with a drop of royal blood. The king should have been wary, he was warned of the danger of blood-arts since he was a child, but in his burning to desire to please his people and the gods, and the enchantment of the creepers voice. He thought not of danger, but only of the riches he could bestow unto them through this infusion.
The disguised creeper bade the king need only take a dagger and pierce the end of his finger, allowing a drop to fall unto a golden block with many bizarre transcriptions writ upon it that the creeper had brought with him, given to him by the sleipner. The king did so without hesitation.. So perfect was his kingdom that he had grown to neglect diligence as there was no need for such a thing here.. The tablet glowed and shook, it grew and grew in the kings hands to the size of a mans torso, the kings anticipation was brimming, and the creeper had fled the scene whilst the king was obsessing over the effects of the tablet. But then the tablet began to murmer and whisper.. It grew and grew larger and larger until the tablet began to shout, at which point the king dropped it to the floor and it cracked open. Out of the tablet came not diamond, but a hissing bloodied man with eyes white as alabaster. He spoke not a word, but cast a foul magick upon the king, fragmenting his soul into 7 different pieces. the pieces took various grotesque forms and began to lay waste to his once perfect kingdom.
The creeper overlord revelled in the sight of the destruction, the golden towers falling into an inferno, the once great palace sundered under a cloud of ash and blaze. He turned to his people he had gathered in the square and told them to admire the chaos he had wraught, and he then attempted to order them to fetch the remaining golden blocks to build themselves a new kingdom- but something had happened to his voice. His enchanted voice bestowed upon him by the Horse Sleipner, it was no longer his own! It was sleipners voice that resonated from the creepers mouth instead of his own. Sleipner ordered the creepers to turn against one another, and to destroy their own kingdom for his amusement. The creepers obeyed the orders of their 'overlord'. The overlord was distraught at the sight of his own kingdom being torn apart by his own kind, and he sharply turned to flee only to find the dark figure behind him.
The creeper looked upon the dark figure and exclaimed that he had broken the deal they made - that he was a liar! The figure looked upon the creeper, and began to laugh. "You promised me destruction, this, is only part of the deal" The man with the white eyes appeared atop sleipner and cast all the survivors souls from both kingdoms into tablets similar to the one he was sealed in. The Creeper overlord included.
After this, the man rode into the distance atop sleipner and disppeared as mysteriously as he had appeared in the first place in a haze of purple light. Never to be seen again.. Both kingdoms have been left in ruin, and the peoples souls are out there, buried, trapped inside wooden, stone and gold tablets. Waiting to be found, waiting for their magick to be unleashed.
The man with the white eyes waits also.. None know what for, but he, sleipner and the 7 fragments of the kings soul are also still out there, doing what? Who knows..
Spoiler
EACH NPC has it's own 'Home Block' which you find through various means. you place the block on the ground, and it will detect certain blocks within a given radius of itself. I.E If Bob has a bed, a work bench, and furnace within 8 blocks left right up and down from his home block, then you will be able to summon him as an NPC See the videos for more details. Here's the basic idea of what happens ~
Bob is but a humble villager. He lived on the outskirts of the golden kingdom, with the rest of the lower class. He had a simple life, growing wheat, and shearing sheep, and had only one desire, a roof over his head, warm food in his belly and a cozy bit of hay to lay in at the end of a hard days work.
Chat messages - These are a few of the messages bob will randomly display when you talk to him ~
-Hello there! Is there anythin ye need?
-Gots ta be careful out in them there wilds. There's cows aboot.
-Magic? Wouldn't ye prefere a pitchfork to fight?
-I could have sworn i saw a tall dark fella walk in behind you..
-Y'know whut i've always wanted? Apples. Pity they don't grow on trees.
-very nice o ye to set me up with this place, we never had beds back in the day! just hay.
-I keep findin these little sparkly boxes aboot- Someone 'ad even put one under me pillow!
-Make sure you eat yer porkchops, or else you'll catch Kootra!
-It's nice ta just gaze up at the stars sometimes ...Puts the soul at ease.
-Aye tell ye, i'd kill for a melon right now..
PROGRESSION -
Bob is most likely to be the first NPC you will obtain, ruins are randomly generated throughout the map (look for torches that you didn't place) and almost always hold Bobs 'Home Block' from which he can spawned.
If you find a melon to give to Bob, he will happily trade it for 'Magical doo-dad' he found, which also happens to be Michelle's 'Home Block.'
If you give Bob a red apple, he'll trade it for 5 pieces of wool.
If you give bob a Gold Apple (you generous soul) he will trade it for a stack of TNT he "found." God knows where he found it..
DAILY OCCURENCE ~
Once every 6000 game ticks (every 5 minutes of REAL-time play-time in minecraft) bob will hand you 3 pieces of wheat he grew when right-clicked that sounds like a small amount but consider this ~ If you have 2 farmer NPC's, then you're going to receive 6 wheat per 5 minutes. Thats just over a free wheat EVERY minute of playtime. Bob's block is very common in ruins, it's easy to amass alot of farmer NPC's for plenty of wheat
REQUIREMENTS
In order to make bob spawn from his block 'mud' upon right-click you need to build a structure that contains ~
- a bed
- a LIT furnace
- a workbench
- a chest
- a wooden plank flooring and cobblestone roof (or vice-versa) (basically, 1 plank and 1 cobblestone block within the 8x8x8 square, hide them if you want)
ALL within a 8x8x8 space relative to his home-block. The home-block acts as a corner stone for the house. THE FOLLOWING IS A PICTURE OF WHAT SUITABLE HOISING LOOKS LIKE -
Michelle was an apprentice witch back in the old kingdom, her days consisted mostly of studying and cleaning. She managed to get the hang of most of the tier 1 spells, and is happy to relay her knowledge to others.
Chat messages - these are a few of michelles chat messages she displays randomly when you speak with her~
- Hey there adventurer! You should bring me a diamond, *wink*
- Who keeps putting these Sceptres in my cauldron..?
- One day i'll become a sorceress... One day..
- Very kind of you to set me free from that infernal box, thanks again
- I could really go for some pumpkin pie about now..
- Have you ever thrown a fireball at a pig? It's hilarious! Although it will smell like bacon for days.
- I'm working on a lightning spell.. If only i had some more magic essence..
- I used to be an adventurer like you. but then i was imprisoned in a soul-box. And then you rescued me!
- I could have sworn i saw you walk in with someone..
- Have you ever thrown an item onto one of those idols? It loves gold, but sends anything else sky-high
PROGRESSION -
Give michelle a diamond and she will give you a magical Sceptre with which to cast low level spells
DAILY OCCURENCE ~
Once every 6000 game ticks (every 5 minutes of REAL-time play-time in minecraft) michelle will hand you 3 balls of Magic Essence she can brew when right-clicked any Bob NPC's will produce her home block for melons, so as long as you have an abundance of melons and time then you will always have an abundance of Witch NPC's and thus - Magic essence.
REQUIREMENTS -
in order to spawn from her block you must have the following items within 20 blocks (20x20x20, you could make a wizards tower, or a witch's hut ;D ) of her home block 'Witchcraft'
- 64 Stone Bricks (that's barely half the flooring in a 20x20 space)
- 2 Beds ( i suggest a double bed )
- 4 Furnaces
- 2 Pumpkin Lanterns (lit pumpkins with torches inside)
- 2 Workbenches
- 8 Chests (double chests count as 2)
- 2 Cauldrons
- 1 Enchantment Table
- 1 Brewing stand
[left]Raphael is a Creeper of the Old Kingdom who lived away from the rest, he confined himself in an isolation and learnt a way of speech... And fancy-living.
Raphael has an ability to "Gild" stone bricks for you, supply him with an example of the block you want "gilded" and a Gold Block, and he will supply you with a stack of 32 Gilded Blocks. Here's the block list for raphael -
- Stone Bricks convert into Gilded Stone Bricks
DAILY OCCURENCE ~
Once every 6000 game ticks (every 5 minutes of REAL-time play-time in minecraft) Raphael will hand you 2 gold ingots when right-clicked Considering raphaels block can only be received by randomly offering gold to the idols of the desert, he is relatively rare, and costly, costing minimum 3 gold blocks and one ingot per Raphael NPC, it's quite justifyable to allow him to give you something nice in return.
REQUIREMENTS-
Raphael requires the following blocks to be placed within 30 blocks of his home block. (30x30x30, plenty of room for a bachelor pad )
- 10 Mossy cobblestone (this mod generates more runs using this, its easy to get)
- 3 Gold Blocks (yup, thats 28 gold ingots, better get mining )
- 9 wool (any colour / color. w/e your nationality spells it like)
- 2 netherrack
- 2 fire blocks (light the netherrack on fire !!NOT NEAR THE WOOL SILLY!)
- 4 glowstone
- 6 chests
- 1 bed
- 2 furnaces
- 6 obsidian
- 1 jukebox (the record player)
*make sure the fire is far away from any flammable objects
This is valcain, named after the guy who's modding tutorials convinced me to start modding ;D (see ValcainHd in the credits section) If you right-click him with almost any item from my mod, he will tell you about it along with a bit of "lore" if you will. He acts as the mods 'Guide.' (LAWLTEHIRONYISSOFUNNEH)
REQUIREMENTS -
-Crystal Idol block
-A rose
-A bookshelf
Seeing as you can't remove crystal idols from their places, you need to make his home on one of the floating islands that randomly spawn where sand meets water
PROGRESSION -
Talk to him long enough and he might drop a few hints about what you should offer to the crystal idol, and perhaps a bit about the old kingdoms magic you're using..
This is Twilight, Michelles sister and fully fledged Sorceress. She can give you information about a few of the more advanced items, and also you can laugh at her when you talk to her and one of her spells goes wrong.
REQUIREMENTS -
Placing a Diamond Block anywhere within the 20x20x20 bounds of the Witchcraft block (michelles home block) will warrant the spawning of Twilight also
DAILY OCCURENCE
She will present you with 3 Enchanted Powder every 6000 game ticks. Roughly 5 minutes. Her name will glow golden if she has an item to give you, this is standard for all NPC's now
PROGRESSION -
She will ask for a Magick Diamond and will also present you with the next NPC block for Valcain if you show her the apocalypse block. (thats the one that has all the random digits and numbers when you hover your mouse over it )
*THIS SECTION IS BEING REWRITTEN TO SHOW YOU PROPERLY WHAT ALL THE ITEMS DO AND THEIR EFFECTS, PLEASE BEAR WITH ME FOR A DAY OR TWO *

left-click to remain stationary and shoot lightning,
right-click for a mid-air jump,
Middle-click to accelerate at the ground at the speed of light.
Gluttonies Blessing - Spawn an Iron ingot into your inventory once every 6 minutes using gluttonies eye
Notch's Blessing - Turn any mob (NOT NPC'S) into a random item.
(cool-down - 3 minutes, // possibly consume cooked porkchops
Herobrine's Malady - Turn any passive mob into a random aggressive mob
(cool-down - 1 minute, (possibility to summon herobrine boss))
This is magic essence. It generates underground and is most common at levels 30 and downwards. It generates fairly commonly in small veins and drops 2 balls of magic essence.
NEW
You have a 1 in 100 chance of receiving a Magick Diamond whenever you mine Magic Essence, so that should give you more incentive to mine it all up, Of course thats not the ONLY way to get them, but it saves you using a vanilla diamond so it's a nice perk "oh hey whats this- a magic diamond? cool beans- i'm gonna grind it down and smoke this shiz later"
The essence itself can be used for many interesting recipes and effects, when right-clicked on it's own in your hand, it will produce random effects of attracting random mobs and occasionally providing you with an item of sorts.
Magic Pressure Plate
The magic pressure plate is crafted with a stone pressure plate surrounded by magic essence, the magic pressure plate functions similarly to the idol in the respect that if any entity ( any mob or item or player) comes into contact with it, it gets sent SKY-HIGH - vanilla mobs will not survive the fall ;P
however- if it is supplied by a redstone signal, then it will NOT launch mobs, you can effectively turn it on and off with some redstone and a lever, turning it off allows any friendly entities you may have from other mods to pass by unharmed
After all, you need SOMETHING to defend your NPC's homes with
Explosive Pressure Plate
These pressure plates are crafted with a Magic pressure plate in the middle, surrounded by gunpowder and magic essence. It essentially works as TNT except it triggers when you step on it.
If it is being powered by redstone, then it will NOT blow up when touched, and will act as a normal pressure plate does, outputting a redstone signal in every direction when weighted down. If it is NOT being powered by redstone, then anything that touches it will set off a diabolical explosion. you can effectively turn it on and off with some redstone and a lever, turning it off allows any friendly entities you may have from other mods to pass by unharmed Don't put them TOO near to your structures, the explosion radius is slightly larger then that of a creepers.
This pressure plate will activate when ANY entity touches it, ANY entity. That means if you drop an item it, if you fire a projectile at it, if a mob touches it, if YOU touch it, you see those particles that fall off blocks whilst your breaking it? if one of those touches it - yup, that sets it off too. They're hyper sensitive. be careful with them ;o
~ MISCALLAENEOUS MAGIC ~
[left]
Surrounding an object with magic essence in the crafting bench will either duplicate that object or create an entirely new magical item, here's a list of the items affected by magic essence so far~ Bear in mind if it looks OP, you require 8 magic essence for each of these recipe's, which is a fair amount

THE SEVEN SINS -
Gluttony is one of the seven fragments of the kings soul. As you have probably guessed, the king of the old kingdom had his soul fractured into 7 parts, the Seven Deadly Sins. This sin can be obtained and defeated with the use of a magical item called the Lucky Horse Shoe. The lucky horse shoe can randomly be obtained by offering gold to the randomly generated idols, It functions a miniature handheld idol with random effects on a smaller scale and doesn't cost you any raw materials unlike the idol. It has a small chance of producing an apocalypse block which will randomly summon a sin and subsequently destroy itself.
If you're having some trouble defeating gluttony, my advice to you is to make use of the magic plates and magic explosive plates, build yourself an arena full of explosives and protective walls > that should make the fight 1000% easier.
Wrath is undying and cannot be killed by conventional means. He is also summoned via the apocalypse block, sins are summoned at random, attempting to kill him with simply a blade may lead to unintended consequences. Your best strategy is to use projectiles.
THE FOUR HORSEMAN -
UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Here's a preview ;D
Still under heavy development, there IS a way to access War the first horseman you see here in the v0.3.5 update... But you'll need Single Player Commands
Structure Generation
Spoiler
Floating islands are an EXTREMELY RARE spawn and will not spawn as they do in this picture :3
If you see a torch above ground that you didn't place there, dig it up and have a look at whats underneath it, you'll likely find some ruins holding some nice treasure from the old kingdoms. Find an obsidian block on the surface where it shouldn't be? Dig around it, you'll find some fantastically RARE treasure underneath! Ruins generate underground and very rarely hold diamond and gold BLOCKS for the taking, just be careful you don't run into any foul beasties during your search..
Gold and diamonds are just the tip of the iceburg, magical items and some of the NPC's soul boxes can only be found underground in these ruins, likely the first NPC block you will find will be hidden underneath a torch on top of a wooden block generating upon grass blocks. make sure you venture out at night if you go looking for torch-lit ruins! You'll find them faster by looking for the light
Randomly generated Desert temples will house a black and gold Idol block, right-click it with a gold ingot in your hand and it could grant you great treasure and magical artifacts! ....or a relatively painful side-effect, but the rewards WELL out-weigh the risks.

Bear in mind i'm going at this alone, it's quite an ambitious mod for a beginner so progress is likely to be pain-stakingly slow, don't expect anything solid and downloadable for at least a great many months, the purpose of the thread at the moment is to collect ideas and work out the kinks and basically to extend my java knowledge.
Cinematic video
As of the current update, this mod edits NO base class files
...I'm bad at producing videos, hopefully someone will do a mod spotlight for me / make a banner / wiki or something DX
Suggestions
-suggestions from you guys go here ;D -
~ Darker textures for the Gilded Blocks ~ less yellow (will probably release a texture-pack upon completion )
~ Having NPC's build structures for you ~ (Considerable, seeing as the later structures i.e the castle is ridiculously huge - at the same time i don't want to copy MineColony though if you catch my drift )
~ Properties file where you can change NPc dialogue and names and such ~ (There is some code for an in-game GUI to change their names that i could possibly implement..)
~ An ability to Cycle through the NPC Block textures ~ (this has been mentioned a few tiems now, Y U NO APPROVE OF MY TEXTURING- lmao, kidding ~ yeah this a possible one as well, we'll see how it goes )
((NRTI = Not Ready To Implement))
Credit where it's Due
Big thankyou to ValcainHD for his tutorials and general help when i was first getting started
Thanks to WadupMan for supporting the thread when it was simply an idea, very first supporter ;D
Thankyou to Noppesfor helping out with some inventory code for putting up with every single monotonous plea for help in modding knowledge that i've been throwing at him on a daily basis, this mod would not be anywhere near as functional or awesome without his help! Make sure you check out his Custom NPC's mod as well real cool guy, you don't often get as pleasant a response when asking for help from other modders as i did from him, thanks again ;D
And thankyou Amber Tonerre very much for suggesting i should go to noppes for the help in the first place ;P wouldn't have found him otherwise
Another thankyou to HDAViirus for his tutorials and general help with a few of the more advanced bits of code i couldn't quite get my head around Definately check them out, they're so informative for new modders.
And to VelouriumCamper for keeping me sane and putting forward some brilliant ideas ;o
HUGE THANKYOU to NaruArth for helping with the radius block detection code, if it weren't for him you would have had to place blocks IN EXACT POSITIONS for NPC's to spawn, make sure you check out his profile and his mods :0 he's a very competent coder and very cool guy.
I'm trying to fix the sounds, MCP keeps having a heart-attack when i fiddle with the sounds for some reason XD

I can see this mod becoming really awesome if you keep it up. So far it reminds me of MineColony
Thankyou! I can only hope to appease ~
Oh i updated it by the way, Bob has more intelligent AI and now has the IQ of a 5 year old opposed to a mouldy sandwich XD
That and the NPC block now actually checks it's surrounding blocks for the required blocks for its NPC
(that was the hardest part i was struggling with, progress should be a bit faster now (until i face-plant another brick wall of java XD ))
Cool, I really like to help people when It comes to Texturing for a mod!
And i was talking about the Elementary craft Banner that guy has. I made it
Do you need a banner? I see you don't have one.
Oh thats cool Yeah sure i could do with a banner :3 go for it
If you can think of any other NPC's and functions / spells lemme know, i could do with ideas now that i've got most of the foundations for the code down
This mod really has a lot of potential, i would love to play with this, but, if you want a bigger town, it will cost a LOT of resources and building time, so maybe, when you have a bit more villagers, and you have some kind off special building, (maybe your house? and then put a block in it that spawns 2 guards?) you can put down a block on the place you want the npc's to build? Then it acts like a chest and you can put the items in maybe. (this would be a special crafted block) But actually, this is exactly what you tried to avoid. But if you want to build a biger settlement, this is inevitable.
But this is a great mod and i fully suppport it, sadly, i dont have ANY coding experience and also i dont have any texturing experience.
Good Luck!
(hit me up when you need a beta tester, im on the forums everyday)
and yes, i'm fiddling around with the NPC's i have seeing what functions i can make them do and how i can make them be more helpful, i'm not fumbling around in the dark due to lack of coding knowledge anymore but theres still a learning curve i'm climbing my way over
Having them be able to produce essential resources for you is a nice idea, i think i'll try to make it a daily occurence, if you've built them a nice house and the things they said they wanted (i.e, a garden) then they should feel inclined to supply you with a few of the basic and harder-to-get items you need to build advanced larger housing..
and perhaps occasaionally rare items that help you build more efficiently, (i.e, an item that increases the range that you can place blocks (totally didn't rip that idea from terraria as well ;D ))
But i think having them build it for you is not the best idea... unless it's an NPC building a house of the same type as it's own (a farmer making another farmer + hut isn't too bad.. twice the resources daily from them )
Quote
cool, but i don't care for the skin. I think that you should use steves instead of squidwards lawl.
Don't worry, the better NPC's will be based off more attractive models but for now, you have to start with the ugliest XD

is this sort like a minecolney/millnere/t.o.k/humans+?
Not quite, collating the 3 mods into one single mod wouldn't serve much of a purpose (just play with them all installed ) but i am drawing alot of inspiration from those mods, i want as an end-goal for my NPCs to have a little bit more charisma and practical usage, more power to be amassed for the player rather then just have them stand around as trophies
Quote
could i be a tester???
It's alright, i don't need to recruit anyone in particular, i'll just release it when it's ready and everyone who's interested can test it for me, but thankyou for asking, i will remember your generous offer
This definitely looks like on of those mods Im gonna suggest to people , maybe make them look a little different (Idk not trying to tell you what to do just don't like the way NPC villagers look )
Wow. Just wow. Was looking for an NPC mod for an adventure map I want to build, to have Elder Scrolls style NPCs and wow. This is amazing. Not what I was looking for, but amazing all the same. Perhaps it would be worth having a config file put into the finished mod that will allow you to enter variable values that will allow you to create custom NPCs with custom dialogue, without the use of Java experience. You have done a brilliant job already, I love the ideas for the mod and I love where it is going. One question, though: Will you be able to remove the NPC spawn block, or at least make it so the top texture is the same as the texture required for around the block? I would really hate to have a nice looking house for a wizard full of his farmer servants, only to have to look at the testificates face every time I pay attention to the floor. You are doing an excellent job with this, and I hope you get a LOT more publicity!
