Hey guys, I was just wondering what's the best layer for strip mining diamonds, I knew before it was anywhere between 10 and 15, but in 1.0.0 the spawnrates changed, and i'm unsure on what's the most efficient layer, if anyone could help, I would be very thankful.

diamonds will not spawn above level 15, so you should start strip minning at level 5 which is bedrock level, and then work your way up till 15, diamonds spawn from level 1-15 in 1.0.0, i promise you, but they are way less common to be in level 14-15, than 5-13.

My favourite layer is at Y = 12 in F3, standing on the 10th layer which is where all the abundant lava stops at.

I disagree. What do you do with all the lava you bump into? At Y = 12, you can just poor water to form an obsidian floor, whereas at Y = 10, you'll have the lava literally flooding your mineshaft every time.

I think you probably thought of this using the other answers, but: 10,6 is the best layer, but it is very dangerous to mine below 12,6 because of the lava, thus 12,6 works better.

If you have a bucket of water and some skill, mining at 10.6 isn't dangerous at all

Exactly. You don't even need some skill really. Just have blocks ready in your hotbar and your water in your hotbar too!

I think Etho did some basic analysis on his YouTube show, which suggested that 10.6 was the best level.

lava layer is the best for strip-mining diamonds, only you have to be patient and careful about more lava...

I dig at layers 7 and 12, keeping a fortune III pick for when I find some.

Now that we can see lava dripping from ceilings it isn't very dangerous digging down low. If I hit lava in front of me I have ample time to place a block.

Ok, so i've established anywhere from 10.6 to 12.6 is ideal, but only if youre wary of lava dig at 10.6

10.6 for the most diamonds.
12 for the most obsidian, but less diamonds, and lava is avoidable easily.

YOU JUST LOST THE GAME!
