Why do people compare Minecraft to Autism? It's stupid and makes no sense.

Autism is associated with obsessiveness. I have a friend with a very minor case of autism, and he goes over the same things over and over and over and over. If he writes an essay, he'll read it 10 times and think about it all day.

If he played Minecraft... oh god.

I did not know that autism causes obsessiveness. Hmm. That explains why I'm so obsessive and have become addicted to Minecraft so easily.

Type "minecraft" into Encyclopedia Dramatica, and you'll see why they compare it to autism, and which groups were originally behind the whole thing.

I've seen OCD associated with minecraft more then autism. Although there are various forms of autism.
"People don't change, they're changed by the actions of others."
"In the end we're all just chalk lines on the concrete, drawn only to be washed away."
"Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean people aren't out to get me."

That is not autism.

Yes. That is true. And many people with autism, are obsessive.

That doesn't change the fact that you described your friend's situation incorrectly. It is your friend's compulsive disorder that causes him to do things over and over. While it may be common for autistic people to be compulsive they aren't the same thing.

You are missing out on so much fun. Think about it, an in depth scientific report on the effect of minecraft on an autistic subject.

"Day 34: Subject has spent eighteen hours building an enourmous tower shaped like male genitalia, permanently marring the landscape for miles around, and coated it in painstakingly gathered gold and diamond.

So far, as always, subject has not gone out of the confines of usual Minecrafter behaviour in any noticable way."
"Guests are reminded that Platform One forbids the use of weapons, teleportation and religion."

Asperger's Syndrome is a form of Autism that is characterised by repetitive behavior (among other things), that's why the clowns at ED associate Minecraft and autism.

And Asperger's Syndrome is usually self-diagnosed by confused teenagers just looking for an excuse for their asshole-like personality. Asperger's Syndrome is "related" to autism, but autism is diagnosed by actual pediatricians at a young age (usually 3-5 years of age). Not to mention it's presumed that ACTUAL autism is caused by a genetic defect. And genetics are written in stone at childbirth.

TL;DR: Asperger's Syndrome is fake.

And you're an ass. I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome by an "actual pediatrician at a young age", when I was three and a half years old. I was born three and a half months early. As I wasn't fully developed, I had many developmental disorders, and my Asperger's was amplified by that.

TL;DR: Only assholes think Asperger's Syndrome is fake.

Yeah, I lol'd because my cousin was diagnosed with ASD by a pediatrician. It's even named after a pediatrician that specialised in study autism. He also wrote peer reviewed papers on the subject.

No, if you had Asperger's you would be able to spell it.

It's really not, it's essentially extremely high functioning autism.  I read an article somewhere about them actually reclassifying the entire syndrome into the scope of autism.

Although I've never been officially diagnosed, my psychiatrist says I probably have a very minor case of Asperger's. I don't mind really, my accompanying OCD and fixation helps me keep everything organized. I was initially drawn into MC by its vastly limitless possibilites because I knew I could be drawn into it and have a good time for quite a while-- all with perfect 90 degree angles!

You's all being trolled.

Also, my brother has Aspergers, diagnosed by Tony Atwood.
