Note: I have not updated Better Enchanting to 1.1. I hope to find time to continue fine-tuning soon, but at the moment finals and college admissions are taking up a lot of my time. Please use this link in the meantime, and a big thank-you to xkyouchoux for the update. Better Enchanting 1.1
It's no fun to spend a long time grinding experience, only to spend it all on a worthless enchantment you didn't want to begin with. Better Enchanting fixes that.
A simple interface lets you pick and choose what enchantments you want, and at what level you want them. Then, just press "Enchant" and get your item!
Better Enchanting does not require ModLoader to run but is compatible with it and most other mods.
Installation instructions - Windows:
-Download the Better Enchanting files from either of the two links above.
-Go to Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer)
-Type "%appdata%/.minecraft/bin" (without quotes) into the address bar
-Right click minecraft.jar and select Open With > WinRar (or whatever archive utility you use.)
-Add the .class files from the BetterEnchanting folder to minecraft.jar
-Delete the folder called META-INF from inside minecraft.jar
-Better Enchanting should now work.
Installation instructions - Mac/iOS:
-Please note that as I have never used a mac, these instructions may be unclear or incorrect. If this is the case please let me know.
-Download the Better Enchanting files from either of the two links above.
-Go to Libraries, then Application Support, then Minecraft, then bin.
-Right-click minecraft.jar and select Open With > Archive Utility.
-Delete the minecraft.jar file and rename the generated folder minecraft.jar
-Move the .class files from the Better Enchanting folder to the minecraft.jar folder.
-Delete the folder named META-INF inside minecraft.jar.
-Better Enchanting should now work.
Screenshots showcasing the interface:
Known bugs:
-"Bane of Arthropods III" goes significantly outside button boundaries
-Unknown, as of yet unresolved bug causes crashes for some people. This may be due to an incompatibility with ModLoader but I'm not sure.
Known incompatibilities:
-Does not work with Sensible Enchanting
Changelog:
1.1.1: Fixed gold tools being impossible to enchant (12/6/2011)
1.1.0: Fixed resizing bug and level cost algorithm, along with aesthetic details(12/6/2011)
1.0.1: Added compatibility with Too Many Items, removed one modified class (12/5/2011)
1.0.0: Better Enchanting uploaded (12/4/2011)
Nice. Is there a possibility you could make a lite version with only the correct enchantment name?
That should be really simple, I'll have it up soon. (A couple of other people in the mod request thread this idea originated in asked for the same thing.)

Nice :biggrin.gif:
Every other mod that translates it to plain words just does literal translation and it always turns out to be garbage :tongue.gif:
Is anyone else getting a link to mediafire that says:
Invalid or Deleted File.
The key you provided for file download was invalid. This is usually caused because the file is no longer stored on Mediafire. This occurs when the file is removed by the originating user or Mediafire.
???
:EDIT:
Ok, thx for the fix. Great idea for a mod, too.

The idea isn't really mine. I got it from Rawrjumping in this thread, and decided to make it, because I don't like my Bane of Arthropods diamond sword either.
im kinda newb at mods i have downloaded the mods now what do i do?
Open minecraft.jar in WinRar (just do a google search if you don't have it, but if you can open my mod I assume you do.) minecraft.jar can be found by typing "%appdata%/.minecraft/bin" into a Windows Explorer address bar.
then, just drag and drop the files from the mod folder into minecraft.jar and delete the META-INF folder - if you don't delete it the game screen will just be black. When you start up minecraft again the mod should work.

Just want to say this is epic.

cant wait to DL :smile.gif:
Fixed it, that was to solve a bug I forgot to remove shortly after uploading.
Re-downloading should fix this bug, for anyone who realizes that the sliders are not being released.

I would wait until v1.1. V1.0 has a few bugs that, for me at least, make it near unusable.
Good work Qizzok anyway, when I learn programming in college, hopefully I'll be able to do something like this.
