Well no **** that'll be hard, go fight an endgame boss with no equipment on any other game and it's going to be difficult. Horrible example.
If I fight things in any game, like you said, with no investment, I would most likely die. If I invest in stuff, I will become more potent, works for Minecraft and any other game.
They do need to finish the dragon boss, it is too easy. In due time it will be finished.
I expect a better mob AI, slightly better graphics (not talking GTA but notch hiring an artist and working a bit on it), better combat system, NPCs you can communicate with, all the features notch promised, unique updates rather than updates stolen from mods, less glitches, more challenge, better biome transitions, etc.
They are hiring a programmer that is very good with AI , why better graphics , we can use texture packs if we really want, the combat system is okay , the main point of the game is mining and building , combat was just an extra for survivsl, and it is good enough , if minecraft was a fighting game , then , notch should make it better , but people can play the game without killing a single mob because it is not the point of the game.
Well , i thought notch said on twitter he wont make players able to interact with NPCs , but i could be wrong , but i dont care , NPCs are just decoration for my towers.
Stolen from mods? , you realize that minecraft has like 9 million mods... every single idea notch thinks about , has a 9/10 chance of already been made by a modder.
If you think that way , there are no original ideas.
If notch wants to add more food... f*ck , there are 20 mods with more food , if notch wants to add more mobs , f*ck , there are 50 mods with more mobs , if notch wants to add a new block , f*ck there are already 9 thousand mods with that same block.
I dont get your way of thinking, every feature notch can possibly think off has already been made by a mod , because there are THOUSANDS of mods , every day 2 new mods are released , and 10 more mods get updated with more blocks and mobs.
At the risk of sounding like an angsty hipster, these are people who give Minecraft a 2.25/10 and MW3 a 10/10 and naming it the best candidate for the Game of the Year and saying it might be the best game ever.
They hate on Minecraft's blocky graphics and say that using the word 'retro' is just an excuse. The sprites and blocks are 16x16. That is retro. To them, anything that isn't the relatively high-poly game of Call of Duty or Battlefield 3, which try to focus on realism instead of develop an art style, is ugly.
They also say that the blocky design of Minecraft is laziness; unfortunately for them, this simply points out their lack of knowledge of hardware limitations as well. The world of computers is enormously different from that of consoles. Consoles have a hardware standard that is regular across all of the systems. In the world of computers, some of us have worse PCs and others, like myself, have machines that could simulate all of the calculations that a console does within a virtual machine without facing a real challenge. To create the world that Minecraft is, with such a modifiable terrain, and include real physics or shrink down the blocks so that you can fit more of them in a space would absolutely obliterate some systems, and would probably make today's console age overheat or crash.
Additionally, he gets a lot of information about Minecraft flat out wrong in the video. I doubt he's spent a legitimate 10 minutes trying to play and enjoy Minecraft; probably just saw a couple screenshots, said 'l0l gey grafx', pulled up Fraps and started looking for anything bad about the game.
Now, here's the biggest wrong thing he said. 'This is the final version of Minecraft.' Release does not mean final for a lot of games. In the MMO world, the release of a game is the beginning of it's content development, not the end. I doubt anybody would call World of Warcraft 1.0 the final version of the game. In the indie world, release often means the point where developers are confident that they have an enjoyable game, not when they're finished with it and are moving on entirely.
Notch and Mojang had a set of goals that they wanted to complete before they would transition from Alpha to Beta. Similarly, they had a set of goals that they wanted to complete before transitioning to the release from Beta. All these words mean, to Minecraft, at least, are stepping stones in the development process that were accompanied with a justified change in label and price tag.
Major publishers like Activision and EA have botched the meaning of release by implying that whatever you get at 'release' is all you will ever get in that game unless you pay extra money for DLC. These people are victim to that mentality.
TL:DR;
These people are biased, uneducated college frat boys who think graphics are one of the key elements of a game and any game where you don't run about shooting the other team with a wide array of military weaponry 'lacks gameplay'. They don't understand the difference between 'graphics', the actual physical realism and quality of what you see on screen, and 'aesthetics', how good a game actually looks when completely assembled (a similar analogy would be to say that anime or manga are crap because they don't look like the Mona Lisa). They did not take the time to properly learn about the game before they reviewed it, getting many facts about the game itself wrong. These people are the target demographics of Activision and EA in a nutshell, but given basic knowledge of video editing and a copy of Fraps, and the largest thorn in the side of the PC gaming community.
I actually agreed to MOST of it. i still love the game but if notch actually worked harder on the game that made him rich then a lot more people would be happy. :mellow.gif:
I think the main 'problem' is that it's a backwards progressing game.
They add something then fix and add onto it. I like this because I get to use the feature early and it gets built upon. It's easy to criticize but I enjoy this method.
So you rage that minecraft is a horrible game, yet you have over 250 posts on the minecraft forums? If you want popularity, earn it the right way. Get a life.
Since when is 250 considered a lot of posts? lol... how about you stop being a dumbass and realize I've been here a lot longer than you, and naturally have more posts?
love how you all say the reviewer is "biased" because he doesn't like the graphics. It is only one of the MANY points he makes in the video.
- Minecraft's retro graphics are lazily done, kept programmer art rather than hiring a good artist and giving minecraft it's own style. Provides various examples of games with retro graphics like minecraft that look better. Dont you state this as a fact. I, and thousands, even millions, of others love the graphics. Also, there was an artist. He was fired becuase...well, look at beast boy. His art didn't fit well with minecraft.
- Sound is average, nothing bad. Indeed.
- Good, simple controls I like that too.
- Combat is extremely simple, easy, and boring. No attack animations from enemies, weak pathfinding (example trying to walk through walls to get to you) Only thing you can do is crit, sprint, or regularly attack. The AI is bad, but somebody did say before me thy will hire someone to work on that. The combat is simple, yet fun. It doesn't need to be Skyrim.
- NPC villagers are completely useless. Do not respond to attacks, do not respond to you taking down their house, do not respond to nearby mobs, do not respond to anything. He asks why are they even in the game if we can't do anything with them? They aren't done yet, so dont count that.
- Notch promised many features but failed to deliver. Snouts, dragons, wolves, mod support is being worked on, biomes. Plus, he doesnt promise things, or people like YOU get pissed when he delays that.
- Put of adding a modding API so Notch could make more money, updates in the last few months were just stolen mods. Wolves, pistons, etc. People always want him to put mods in game, and the pistons mod came out after pistons were announced.
- Provides example of game-breaking glitch (diamond block duping). Doesn't affect the people who don't do it, and is bound to be fixed. Only Noobs do that anyways.
- Not many minerals, easy to get diamond within an hour of playing. Okay, you got 8 diamonds. So? It's not like they're game-breaking powerful.
- Abrupt and ugly biome transitions. Only with swamps.
- Strongholds are boring and barren, treasure chests contain items that are much more easily obtained on your own or useless items. He provides an example with cocoa beans, which make cookies but there useless because you can just use other food items. Cocoa beans are for brown wool, which is a fun aesthetic. Strongholds are huge, fun to explore, and provide a way into the end. You can also get diamonds or golden apples from them.
- Poison foods don't make sense, you can still heal even if they are "poisonous". No reason to have poisonous foods if they heal you anyway. They make you rapidly lose hunger once eaten, but it doesn't happen all the time. Rotten flesh has a 80% chance of poisoning, if I remember
- Final boss is only difficult because of it's high health and it's regenerating health towers. Tedious rather than challenging. So it's only difficult because of the 2 components that make it difficult?
- Doesn't see the appeal in multiplayer, far more entertaining multiplayer games. The game is much more fun in multiplayer, especially when you can steal and kill others to climb your way to the top.
- Game loses appeal quickly. Lolno.
- Any website that gives MC 10/10 should not be trusted, because there are obvious problems. Again, stating your opinion as a fact. I would give it 20/10, and I know other people who would do the same, because there are so many things you can do. Bored of surviving? Build. Bored of that? Master redstone. Bored of that? Time for some mods.
- Notch makes poll asking if people would come to minecon if it was $90, everyone says no and he ups the price to $140. Wat? Not related to the game, doesn't matter. PLus, people still went, so who cares?
- People only want to play scrolls because notch made it, game is not original at all. Nor is any COD game, but people still play them. But unlike COD, it isn't literally a port with difernt names for guns.
- Supports Yogscast criticizing Notch, from his twitter claims. I doubt Notch would lie about that. Stop looking at the man as such a horrible person. Also unrelated to the game.
- Mojang team are hypocrites, also curse in front of children vs yogscast. Don't remember anything like that, and who cares, children who watch yogscast must hear cursing all the time.
- Could have been great game, special and unique gear, NPCs you can communicate with, all sorts of directions mc could have gone. Instead it went in multiple directions in a step or two, never really committing. Everything you talked about here is being added.
- All notch's games based on previously existing games, did very little to innovate games. Yet he won an award for it. He won an award BECAUSE we bought the game. Blame yourself for this.
- Notes that minecraft is 1.0, RELEASE VERSION. ike I said, they are still updating it. THis isn't the absolute-final release.
- Overall, can't recommend minecraft to anyone for $30, $15, not even for $6.99 on the app store. Not even for free. Obvious dumbass is dumb. You wouldn't recommend a game for free? I lol'd
- 2.25/10 score There goes my faith in humanity, try looking at the positives of the game, retard.
Also, he never said ONE positive thing. Worst review I've seen.
I do feel there is a graphics epidemic. The games get better graphics but the gameplay doesn't change. Shooter games are the best example. The weapons get better graphics so the game is 'better' but they all shoot the same.
Minecraft has to be one of the few new games that tosses graphics aside and worries about the gameplay.
Whenever I play an old game, at first I poke fun, "HAHAH these graphics are hilarious, is that supposed to be a horse?" Then when you get into the game you totally forget everything except how to overcome the challenges it tosses at you.
Graphics are initially noteworthy, but worthless an hour in.
Most people are saying this is about graphics. Look at Skyrim. It has good graphics. That makes it good for people who like GRAPHICS. Look at minecraft. It has great graphics. The graphics in minecraft make it UNIQUE. No game has just, amazing graphics. it could seem good to you, but not good to other people. If minecraft graphics aren't good enough for you, go play Skyrim.
I can pretty much agree with this review except for the graphics part of it. The graphics are supposed to be terrible pieces of crap. The rest of the game is, however, not supposed to be. But yet it is and now Notch has essentially abandoned minecraft for who knows how long.
Yeah I make total common sense right? I post my own opinions bashing minecraft. Stating that they are facts. In a minecraft forum. Where I totally won't get flamed.
- Minecraft's retro graphics are epic
- Sound is epic
- Good, simple controls
- Combat is extremely simple, easy, and great fun.
- NPC villagers don't do anything so I won't be bothered by those guys
- Notch promised many features but delivered more than he would
- Notch based stuff of mods people liked :biggrin.gif:
- Some fun to find glitches
- Not WAY TOO MANY MINERALS like in other games
- Biome transitions make it easy to see where different biomes are
- Strongholds are epic, they are hard to navigate in, not much loot to find making them even more dangerous
- Posion food is epic. They make you hungry more quickly
- Final boss is awesome, reminds me of the bosses in half-life 1
- Multiplayer games are awesome!
- Game stays fun for a very long time
- Any website giving Minecraft a 10/10 is right, because even though there is some minor flaws the game is AAAWEEESOOOMEEE
- Notch thinks minecon through. He knows people who are willing to pay 90 will also pay 140.
- Scrolls is fun
- Yogscast and Notch like eachother
- Mojang team is awesome
- Is a great game, special and unique gear there is now, NPCs who don't annoy you with side-challenges. It simply added cool stuff for everyone.
- Notch game is innovative yet based on games people liked.
- Minecraft is 1.0, the release version! :biggrin.gif:
- I can recommend Minecraft for around $20
- 10/10 score
I don't see mention of the massive creative potential of minecraft anywhere on that list (and not just in creative mode.) Anyone who doesn't acknowledge that probably has a defective imagination and would be better off playing a standard FPS or action-adventure game that doesn't require any. People who hate on minecraft most of the time miss the point of minecraft ...
I've looked at metacritic for 'professional' reviews of Minecraft. (Currently they average 94) So far all of them are positive and the ones that I have read will point out the issues that you have mentioned, but even then they say that those are minor in comparison to the overall package of the game.
For example:
Quote from GameSpot »
Visual glitches pop in at regular intervals, and some game elements seem incomplete or thrown together in haste. What's amazing is that the core game is so ridiculously absorbing that these flaws matter little in the grand scheme of things. Even in its current form, Minecraft remains one of the most conceptually impressive indie games out there.
This quote was taken from the lowest scored review on Metacritic BTW.
Edit: Looking at later pages on this thread it seems this has devolved into an ....

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
When no one was looking, the Endermen took forty blocks.
They took 40 blocks. That’s as many as four tens. And that’s horrible.
They do need to finish the dragon boss, it is too easy. In due time it will be finished.
