I'm trying to install my first mod (toomanyitems) in minecraft. I read that you have to delete META-INF before you can install it. I tried but it gives me the WinRAR diagnostics window with: Cannot create__rzi_42.4703360. I tried opening the folder itself and deleting the individual files one by one, but that doesn't work either. Minecraft was closed, and I made sure javaw wasn't running. Please help!

Right click minecraft.jar or META-INF, go to properties and at attributes untick the 2 boxes at the bottom.

Those boxes are already unticked in the .jar. There isn't a properties when I right click on META-INF. Is that bad?

I had the same problem and here's what helped me:

'Ensure that Minecraft is closed.

Copy your minecraft.jar to a seperate location. Remove the meta-inf from that minecraft.jar and replace the original with the new one.'

I give credit to XDaWNeDX for this piece of wonderful information!

If this doesn't work for you, I am so sorry.

you need to edit the minecraft.jar file in the .minecraft folder, the exe is just the shell program that runs the client

When i try to delete meta-inf it says "Cannot rename __rzi_0.136 to -------------------------------------------------.
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." but minecraft is closed

and when i try to delete the minecraft.jar it says "The action can't be completed because the file is open in Java™ Platform SE binary."

I'll try to give the basic on how to do this without getting anyone confused. Go to my computer at the top like if you where going to type in a address to your favorite website type in %Appdata%, Go into .minecraft then go into the folder called bin then look for minecraft.jar  you need to download a program to open this i recommand using 7zip its free and simpe to use, Right click on minecraft.jar click on properties open with you want to click change you want to change it to the program you downloaded for the sake of me typing this im going to do it with 7zip 32bit verison, click browse you want to go to C:\program files(86)\7zip then you want to choose 7zFM.exe. After all that you can open minecraft.jar with 7zip make sure all minecraft windows are closed and nothing minecraft is running in the background, Delete the meta.inf folder.

(If you are still unable to delete the meta.inf folder you may want to try to do a force update and try again.)
